Overall, the family enjoyed our visit to Colton's Point. This house is an older waterfront cottage and does show it's age which is part of the character. I mean in slopping floors kind of way and obvious the structure was built on over time adding to it's charm.
PROS: The house is on a secluded spot with only 2 other houses next door. You can see the water out the back from the kitchen window and the front of the property where the dock is (in the picture). For what my family was looking for in a long-weekend, we had everything we needed. The closest grocery store is at least 15-20 min away but there is a convenience store about half that (nothing you can walk to if you need to buy anything). A canoe is available (which we did use) and some small bikes (which we did not use).
No hesitation in recommending if you are not looking for a newer house to rent. Convenience of a full kitchen and AC units in each bedroom was appreciated and the place was clean enough. Plenty of towels available.
CONS: Some obvious needed updates include replacing the crank style windows on the porch (only 1/2 of them open). There were supposed to be crab pots, but we couldn't find them to try out. And some places could use a spring cleaning (like overhead fans and book shelves for example). There was a gas grill, but only one of the three burners turned on. For my preference, I wish the owners removed more of their personal belongings out of sight and toiletries from the bathrooms. It made me feel like I was intruding.
Would recommend - but don't expect a new property. Dog friendly was important to us.
Thank you to the owners!
Other then a small hic-up, the stay was wanderful, everybody had a great time of relaxing.
We had a lovely time during our stay! We were two families (two teenage boys) and had a marvelous time. Biking, kayaking and fishing. The amenities were amazing, all you need. We did bring our own food to cook, but had all we needed to prepare meals. It was relaxing and quiet. We loved the pier and the firepit in the evening. The owners were very responsive and so very friendly. We wan to make this an annual summer trip. Thank you so very much for lending us your home for our vacation. We loved it and hated to leave! (We did leave, of course :-)) Hopefully, this little gem will not get too booked so we can make an annual journey to this lovely waterfront jewel.
A group of buddies and I rented out this home and we loved it. The view of the Potomac is great and you feel a world away from Washington, DC. We were able to put in our small sailboat easily and sail to St. Clement's Island. It was a great vacation. The owners were very gracious, kind and generous. I would definitely visit this home again in the future.
This was the perfect place for us -- my husband and two teenage sons loved it. We brought our kayaks and paddled the creeks and one day went to St Clements island -- great to just put your kayaks in right out front. One day we rented a boat at Solomons Boat Rental which was 8 hours of fun. We went fishing and spent a lot of time on the pier. We were amazed at the views and the beautiful location. The house itself is a surprise -- cottage on the outside, fully stocked beautifully appointed house on the inside. There was always something to do or see. We can't wait to go back!
We stayed here for four days over the weekend. Myself, my beautiful fiancee, and her two girls had the best time. The views are amazing, the house is comfortable-clean and well stocked, and the property is the most amazing place we've stayed at. We travel a lot, and this was one of, if not our favorite. The fishing was a blast even if we didnt have much luck with the crabs (2), the girls had a blast swimming off the dock, and we got to relax and enjoy the gorgeous views on an almost private island. It was peaceful and quiet all day and evening. The girls had a blast and we got some MUCH needed time away from the world. We cant wait to get back, Megan even wants the place for Christmas... Rosemary was great to deal with, very prompt and friendly, and Destiny, our contact, was prompt and extremely helpful with all our questions. One thing, you wont want to leave. Ever.
