About Kay Burlingame

"The Leland Lake House and Sunrise Cottage have been among our favorite family vacation spots over the years, as our daughters have grown from small children to young women. We couldn't believe our good fortune when we found the property for sale in the fall of 2015 and were able to buy it. It definitely needed some TLC and we have enjoyed the project of restoring it to the welcoming and enchanting place we remember. We are so much looking forward to sharing it with other couples and families to build their own happy memories here."

Why Kay Burlingame chose Hood Canal, Olympic Peninsula

It is a private and fun lakefront home with beautiful surroundings and quality throughout.

What makes this house unique

Don't worry about being too removed from society, because satellite TV and internet is available for those who just can't stand to live without their electronic link (or the ball game).

Sit in the spa and gaze at the stars....

Get a close-up view of the eagles, osprey, kingfishers, ducks or the red-winged blackbird who thinks he owns the property!

S'mores are always a treat to make at the firepit.

A charcoal barbecue is onsite, for making the big he-man steaks.

A washer and dryer are onsite. All linens are provided (including many towels).

Steamer clams and oysters are easy to collect near Linger-longer Road in Quilcene (about seven miles from Leland Lake).

Bring your pet. There's two and a half secluded acres for Fido to run on. Our lower yard area is fenced.. ($10 per day, per pet fee.)

Lake Leland offers year-round fishing for rainbow trout, large mouth bass, perch, crappie and bluegill. (State license required. A boat ramp is located at the county park. Due to steepness of our driveway, we don't recommend bringing towed boats down it.) 5 mph speed limit on the lake.

Hurricane Ridge is only an hour and a half away. It offers everything from sledding to cross-country skiing or snowshoeing.

Looking for a great hike with a perfect workout? Mount Walker - only ten minutes away - quite often has winter snow without the hassle of bad driving conditions.

A large kitchen, complete with dishwasher, refrigerator, range and microwave oven is awaiting your culinary expertise.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a wonderful time at this home. We brought 3 families and the kids had room to run. It was perfect for our needs. The owners gave us ideas of what to do around the area and it was close enough to Port Townsend, Sequim and Poulsbo that we could do a variety of fun things. Great Stay!!! Thank you!

Incredible place for a weekend away from the city

  • 5 of 5

This house has everything you could possibly need for a great stay! From kitchen and grilling appliances to boats / canoes / kayaks for the lake to a hot tub and fire pit for evening fun - it's all there! Kay is incredibly helpful in getting everything planned for your group size / needs. There are more towels than any group could need and pillows and bedding for everyone. The only difficulty is that if you have a smaller or lighter car, the driveway can be a bit of a trick. We found that if you just gun it up you can make it to the top with just enough juice to get you to the flat part of the driveway... none of the subarus / larger crossover SUVs and trucks had any issue!

sadly a very negative experience..

  • 1 of 5

I would not recommend this house if you enjoy hot tubs, have young children or a dog, and/or do not have a four wheel drive vehicle. my kids and I got an infection from the hot tub (hot tub folliculitis). fortunately, I'm an ARNP/PCP so could diagnose and prescribe medication to treat it (thus avoiding finding an urgent care clinic/emergency room in a small town on a holiday weekend). the spiral staircase is quite dangerous. my daughter fell down it (and fortunately was not hurt, but cracked the iPad she was carrying which will now need to be fixed), and our dog had trouble negotiating it every time he went up and down. lastly, we had to be towed out of the steep, gravel driveway by a neighbor (who was lovely! thank you jeff!) on our way out. this was all made worse by the utter lack of compassion or apology from the manager, when I informed her about our infection from the hot tub. it's really a shame, as the setting is lovely, and we met the man who built the house, and he was very kind.

Owner's Response: Dear Eileen, I am sorry that your experience was not to your satisfaction. When my husband (the very kind man) was there on the third day of your visit, he reports that you were having a wonderful time and loved the home and commented it to be a wonderfully thought out place for pets. I wish I'd been given a chance to know of your dissatisfaction earlier. I hope that you will be able to revisit with us in the future.

Gorgeous, well-equipped home in a super quiet, peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

Our first thought about this property was: the pictures do not do it justice! It is beautiful! It's only a 2 hour drive (or ferry+drive) from Seattle downtown, yet is tucked away and amazing as a getaway for the weekend.

We slept 5 adults (2 couples, 1 single person) there and we could have fit many more! The beds are very comfortable, and there's even a washer/dryer in the house (we often don't see that at vacation homes). The house is really well-equipped for cooking and for entertainment activities.

Wonderful house and beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

The house had everything we needed. The lake and setting was beautiful. Five of us stayed in this house and we had plenty of room and beds. The kids loved to row on the lake. It was close enough to town for anything we wanted to do, yet a private setting. Awesome place to stay!

Can't wait to return

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous rental! The property is just what I was looking for. Very private and quiet. All I could hear were the occasional sounds of birds. We soaked in the hot tub and watched a bald eagle hunting for fish. We watched a family of 3 otters make their way past the dock.

This house is completely dialed. Very comfortable, very nicely put together. A friend brought her dog, and she spent the whole time investigating the yard, within the completely fenced in property. We were a group of 4 female friends who really needed a nice break and this rental hit the spot. And we easily found 4 comfy blankets for all of us to cozy up and enjoy the very peaceful view.

I was sad to leave and *almost* inquired about adding a few more days.
