Karen purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Karen chose Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove
The beauty of Petty Harbour amazes us every day, every season and we constantly marvel at the fact that we get to live here. We know you will feel the same about Petty Harbour and ShoreLark by the Sea rentals! We have done everything we can think of to ensure you have a relaxing comfortable stay. We take immense pride in making sure your little home away from home is immaculate and the only thing you need to do upon arrival - is relax and take in the spectacular views. Speaking of which at Shorelarkbythesea - we have THE best views in the area - hands down!
What makes this Cottage unique
Shorelarkbythesea has been providing 5 star, second to none, vacations by the sea for 8 years. Staying with us gives you the best of both worlds. A unique experience of what life is like in a 500 year old fishing village on the Atlantic Ocean - and being just 15 minutes from one of the oldest and most vibrant cities in North America - St. John's has all the culture, nightlife, restaurants, galleries and shopping you could want. But 15 scenic minutes away is Petty Harbour where you will experience the peace and charm of years gone by. When doing the interior decorating of our three units we took great pains to provide exactly what was needed to keep the focus on the unrivaled scenery because we have some of the best views in Petty Harbour! In the our ONE BEDROOM NEST - you can see, hear and smell the ocean from the kitchen, living and bedroom windows and of course the large private decks! Extremely well organized.
Comfortable spacious home.
Petty Harbour is a "must see".
So glad you enjoyed your stay at Shorelark by the Sea’s Upper Nest! You are right Petty Harbour is a must see! Hope you visit again!
We loved our stay! Beautiful place, everything we needed was there. Loved it!
Perfect gem in Petty Harbour
My stay at the Nest surpassed all expectations. The property is perfectly situated in the charming village with stunning views over the harbour. Karen and David have created a cosy, welcoming haven, a perfect blend of style and comfort.Everything is immaculate... modern bathroom, super comfy bed with fine linens, imaginative coastal decor. Ambitious chefs will love the fully equipped kitchen, however I preferred to feast on the amazing seafood at Chafe’s Landing, just a short walk down the hill. There is plenty to enjoy just relaxing in Petty Harbour but equally it is well situated for exploring further afield and is a short scenic drive into St John’s. From the first contact, Karen and David were thoughtful, friendly, responsive hosts and I was glad to share a glass of wine with Karen and thank her personally for a wonderful stay.
Hi Elizabeth! Thank you so much for your kind words! You got exactly what Petty Harbour and our Shorelark by the Sea Nests are all about! Do as much ...or as little as you want... it’s your vacation and we want you to have just what you need to make it relaxing and memorable. So glad you enjoyed your little retreat and we hope to see you for longer next time! All the best! K&D
Great place Great location Quiet ocean view- all around awesome! Would do it again!
Hi guys! Thanks so much for celebrating your 20th Anniversary at our Shorelark by the Sea Upper Nest! We are so happy you thought it was magical! :) All the best ! Karen & David
Exactly as advertised. Met all our expectations plus more. Such a peaceful friendly spot that is still within a quick drive to St.Johns.
Hi Peter ! Glad you got to hang with the fishers... eat those incredible lobsters.... and even catch the icebergs! The trifecta of a great vacation I imagine... lovely to meet you guys... take care! K&D
Aside from sitting on your private deck and watching the whales play in the ocean (10,000 Humpbacks migrate through the area each year!) and the icebergs idle by (in season of course)... there is plenty to do in Petty Harbour itself!
Petty Harbour has been an active fishing village since the 1500s. Feel the quaintness of the village for yourself... just take the short stroll down to the harbour and be gob-smacked by the stunning vista.
For non-licensed fishers, the Newfoundland and Labrador Recreational Food Fishery happens twice a year during summer and fall. The recreational fishery is open to both residents and non-residents and there is no license requirement. If not partaking yourself, you can still watch as folks take to the waters in small boats and then come back to the wharf to clean their catch in the same way it's been done for hundred of years. Either way, it's sure to whet your appetite!
Speaking of which - Chafe's Landing, the local seafood restaurant, is waiting to serve you the same fresh-caught fish at lunch - and again at supper, if you wish - it's that good! They have just completed a lovely reno and now have a small "pub"and deck! There is something for everyone on Chafe's menu!
We also have a coffee shop called The Watershed - located right on the wharf. Enjoy artisan coffee, sandwiches and pastries in this quaint waterside cafe!
Learn the local history at the Petty Harbour Heritage Museum, learn about Newfoundland aquatic life at the Petty Harbour Mini Aquarium, stop into the Information Centre, get a bit of exercise while enjoying the quiet splendor of the East Coast Trail or for the more adventurous...try Zip Lining (North Atlantic Zip Lining) through the hills and get a bird's eye view of the Atlantic Ocean. Fishing For Success is a Not for Profit Organization that can take you out beyond the breakwater to jig for your own cod, bring it back in clean it and even do a lovely piece of art with it! Fantastic fun for the whole family!
Canoers, kayakers and jet ski enthusiasts bring their crafts to the launches at the wharf and enjoy the Petty Harbour area also!
We are located on the East Coast Trail where there is plenty of hiking for all levels.
Or maybe you just want to while away the hours poking through craft shops, artist studios or picking wild blueberries in the hills outside your suite.
If you need groceries, take the 5 minute drive to Bidgoods where you can pick up everything you need including a fabulous selection of Newfoundland specialty food items, lovely baked goods, Newfoundland crafts and more of the freshest of fish and seafood - including lobster!
For those needing a Pharmacy there is also a Shoppers Drug Mart in the Bidgoods Plaza.
Guests of Shore Lark by the Sea are able to experience an idyllic lifestyle in Petty Harbour yet can switch gears very quickly with a 15 minute drive into St. John's, one of the oldest most vibrant cities in North America, where they can hit the pubs, theatres, art galleries, museums, shopping, sports events and fine dining restaurants.
Petty Harbour is also located minutes from one of the biggest attractions to the province, Cape Spear, the most easterly point in North America, and is a launching point for many day trips including the Irish Loop, whale and bird watching boat tours, sea kayaking and much more.
If you head down to Ferryland you can check out the Colony of Avalon Archaeological Dig and have a lovely catered picnic lunch right on the cliffs at the Ferryland Lighthouse.
Bird lovers must take the trip to Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve! Witness one of the most accessible places in the world to see nesting seabirds including kittiwakes, cormorants, puffins and more than 24,000 gannets.
The Avalon Wilderness Area is home to the most southerly herd of Woodland caribou.
There are several golf courses nearby, including a championship public course with panoramic views of St. John's and the surrounding coastline.
Brook trout and Atlantic salmon are also abundant in the ponds and rivers of the region.
Other outdoor activities: Sea kayaking, boating, mountain biking, horseback riding, swimming and more are all available.
