This cozy 4 bedroom 2 bath home sits atop a hill on 3 acres in the quiet village
This cozy 4 bedroom 2 bath home sits atop a hill on 3 acres in the quiet village of Wells River, VT (population ~500) along the New Hampshire border and part of the Northern Kingdom area of Vermont. Surrounded by nature and the Connecticut River, you'll quickly find the home and the area relaxing. This is a perfect location for those looking to enjoy fall foliage surrounded by the beautiful fall colors.
We recently renovated this 2 story home which was built in the 1920's. The home features and updated kitchen with brand new appliances, granite counter tops, and hardwood floors throughout. The rest of the main floor includes a formal dining area and 2 living rooms with televisions and with chimneys that open up to a screened in porch which is perfect for enjoying nature while sipping coffee or wine. Also on the main floor are 2 bedrooms each with queen size beds and 1 full bath.
Upstairs there are 2 additional bedrooms with the first having a twin trundle bed which can be used as 2 twin beds or put together to make a king size bed. Down the hall, there's an additional bedroom with a queen size bed and another 1 full bathroom.
Each bathroom has claw foot tubs that were original the home and perfect for soaking. If you're not into baths, no worries, the tubs also include a stand-up shower.
In the basement, there is a washer and dryer, and renters have access to equipment such as children's bikes, tubes and tents.
Outside enjoy the fire pit, tree swings, picnic table, or play a game of badminton. For those looking to enjoy nature even more, feel free to use the air mattresses and sleep on the porch or set up the tent anywhere on the 3 acre property.
On a typical day, you'll see chipmunks, a variety of birds, and deer on the property. Occasionally, you may spy a fox or moose as well.

This was my grandparent's home when they retired in the 1970's. I remember going up there as a child to visit and feeling a sense of magic and charm with the home and nature. I purchased the home in January 2012 and have renovated it to bring out it's beauty once again.
Allison purchased this House in 2012
Why Allison chose Ryegate
The home and area are very charming and bring you back to the sense of simpler times. With the many rivers, mountains, trees, and nature all around, it's easy to sit back and enjoy. I'm also the adventurous type and found the home perfectly located to access nature's adventures like rafting, swimming, and hiking, as well as being close to more modern adventures like zip lining, atv riding, and amusement parks.
What makes this House unique
Enjoy the home all year round with swimming and other fun summer activities, foliage viewing during the fall, skiing and ice skating in the winter, and flowers blooming in the spring.

Amazing Find and Lovely Stay
I booked this home for President's Day weekend for three nights from Friday through Monday. Our party of nine (5 adults; 4 children ages 7 through 15) had plenty of room with the extra cot and trundle bed. We made good use of the kitchen and laundry. The house is quaint and comfortable, and it was great that we could all spend time on the same floor (tv room, living room, dining room and kitchen), without being right on top of each other. The driveway easily fit our three vehicles. The house had everything we needed on a daily basis, and for minor provisions it was a quick ride to Wal-Mart. We spent most of our time skiing at Loon Mountain, which was about a 45 minute drive on windy roads through the White Mountains. Allison was always reachable and super friendly, even after we departed and thought we had left something there. We took her recommendation and enjoyed our last morning's breakfast at The Shiloh and left Wells River as happy campers. I would definitely stay here again.
We stayed for 3 nights. The house was very clean and spacious. Had all the amenities we needed. Allison was great to work with.
Lovely home. Enjoyed fire pit and all the room
Lovely home. Very roomy
Great house, great location
A very thoughtfully set up house. Just look for what you need and you will find it.
We loved the morning sun and enjoyed all the tables and chairs outside.
We used this for a 6 person extended family group and we had lots of space.
House was clean throughout.
Thank you, Allison for answering all the emails and just being helpful.
Lovely spacious house and yard
This is a beautiful spot. The house is lovely and spacious. It was nicely aired out when we arrived. And the large , private yard was wonderful for outdoor activities.
We did have a few minor issues during our stay (including a problem with the neighbor's dog) but Allison responded to us promptly and effectively.
Amazing and clean house
Loved the house, everything was clean and super nice. House was huge and plenty of room for me and my friends. The neighbors dog was at the door one morning barking at us and then between us and the house when I came back from a walk but she was not aggressive, just loud. Thought it was a stray at first because of no tags or collar.
Glad the house worked out well. Thanks for the heads up on the neighbor's dog! We'll mention something. You're right, he's friendly but can still be startling.
Enjoy the rolling hills and relaxing lifestyle in this quaint town of Wells River, VT on the New Hampshire border. Some of our favorite things to do in the area cost little or no money at all and include: swimming in the river pools and lakes (10- 20 min. away), rafting and tubing down the rivers, walking into town for breakfast or ice cream, visiting farms for fresh fruit, vegetables, homemade food, and even visiting with the farm animals.
More tourist attractions are just 30 minutes away in Lincoln, NH where you can zip line, ATV ride, ride train tours, moose siting tours or check out amusement parks and water parks.
This house is a great location for anyone looking to relax or for enjoying the variety of the area. Within an hours distance include other fun activities like visiting the Ben & Jerry's Factory, Mt. Stowe, amusement parks like Santa's Village and other fun activities.
