About Michele Boling

We are American owners living in the bay area; married with 3 sons in college. We love to travel and meet new people. We love to cook and enjoy the french cusine and let's not forget the delicious wine and cheese! The two of us are currently learning to speak French and we are members of Alliance Francaise in the Silicon Valley. The house fits into our future retirement plans allowing us the opportunity for more travel in neighboring countries.

Why Michele Boling chose Caux

Our house is located between Montpellier and Beziers in the Languedoc region. This area is becoming a popular and more affordable vacation destination with all it has to offer. The location is perfect for fun day trips or to navigate to other popular destinations within France or Europe. The TGV and good roads make it easy to travel and get around. This particular property has charm and old world character, and to us, is truely a gem. We are delighted to share Bijou de Soleil with you.

What makes this house unique

Quaint and historic Caux is an authentic french village where mainly French is spoken. The heart of the village is close by within steps to the (not one, but 2) boulangeries, which have some of the best croissants in the whole south of France! There is a patiserrie, butcher, green grocer and Pizza parlor, bar and cafe and more. There are several wineries and tasting rooms to sample the lovely wines of the region. Outside the village you are close enough to get to the bustling Pezenas, Beziers or Montpellier.

Lovely overall but...

  • 4 of 5

The village of Caux was under construction seige with the center road at times inaccessible, and the village sorely lacks a restaurant and/or a decent cafe. The apartment itself is indeed a jewel, with the only flaws in the gem rating a cramped shower, and the building being situated in a low income housing project that appears to gave been built around it. Apart from this it is a comfortable, well appointed and cozy nest from which to explore the wonderful city of Pezenas and surrounding countryside. We would return for a repeat visit had we not met a delightful woman with whom we became friends and who happily runs a B&B in the village.

Owner's Response: Caux is a small village surrounded by the vineyards and countyside. Most of the village homes are privately owned and the locals are working class people. This is not in a "low income housing project" area as confimred by my local realtor who also lives in Caux. Infact, the area where the house is situated reflects a typical lifestyle, i.e., families, pets, kids playing, etc. It's not a "rich" area, but reflects the true french flavor of a very standard and normal small French village. The village itself dates back to the 12th Century and is very old and quaint, yet, with the mayor's support, improvements are being made and will serve to enhance the village overall, notwithstanding some temporary construction and inconveniences. The new Panama Parking, close to Bijou de Soleil, is one fine example of the forward progress since last year.

An economical, comfortable house for a couple or a small family

  • 4 of 5

This is a small, comfortable house in a small village. The house is suitable for 3 adults or a small family, don't try to pack in more people than that. The shared bathroom is quite small. The property manager ensures that you have everything you need including a well stocked kitchen (a definite plus after a long journey). The village is well located for touring the Languedoc region, the sea is not far away, interesting cities and smalller attractions are easily accessed from Caux. A nearby town, Pezenas, has most things that you may need. This is an economical vacation house that is comfortable and well located for touring the area.

Jolie petit pied à terre

  • 3 of 5

Car: necessary

The area is perfect for day trips, exploring, outdoor activities, Lake Salagou is close by, the regional park is not too far away and for the history buff, the area is rich with history dating back 1,000 years to the Huguenots and Cathars. There are several UNESCO world heritage sites nearby including Carcassonne, Pont du Gard and Coliseum. There are also interesting Roman ruins and caves for the explorers and adventure seekers.

The nearby town of Pezenas is more populated, with many fine restauants and cafes and cinema. Pezenas has many antique stores. Pezenas was also once home to the famous French playright, Moliere. Only 1/2 hr from the scenic mediterreanan coast and only 20 min from the beautiful Cap D'Agde resort and about 40 min to Montpellier and Sete.
