Quiet, relaxing retreat overlooking the River
About Nana Campana
My husband and I used the River House as our weekend getaway, before we moved here from the Chicago suburbs. We are both from the Midwest (Wisconsin and Illinois). I am a retired teacher, and my husband is a retired sheet metal worker. We lived in the River House full time while we were building our house next door. This area is really beautiful, and we enjoy boating, the sunsets, and the quiet, although we do head into Chicago frequently to enjoy theater and other city things. My favorite time here is in the fall and winter, when it is extra beautiful on the River. People are friendly here, and the neighbors will welcome you.
Nana Campana purchased this House in 2001
Why Nana Campana chose Thomson
The River House is a great getaway. It is only 2 1/2 hours from Chicago, which is very convenient. It is a quiet, relaxing place in the woods on the Mississippi River with a spectacular view. Since the house has a wrap-around deck overlooking the river, you can eat outside and enjoy the fresh air and the view. The house is on one floor, and there are few steps to worry about.
What makes this House unique
Since the house is on a wooded cul-de-sac, the area is very peaceful and quiet. Yet nearby there are many wineries, quilting shops, and antique shops to enjoy. Boating and fishing on the river are wonderful, and there is a boat rental nearby. This is also a good place to hike or bike, and there is a bike rental place in town.

Wonderful time was had at Nana and Ron's house on the Mississippi
Ron and Nana were wonderful hosts throughout our stay. The house was sparkling clean and very well equipped with everything you could think of being provided. We spent a lot of time hanging out at the house playing games, doing puzzles and catching up with the family. It was a perfect environment to relax and make special memories. Nana and Ron had a lot of literature about things to do in the area which was really helpful. We would highly recommend a stay at this property.
We three girls had good time at the RIVER HOUSE! It had plenty of room, linens were like new, beds were comfy and was fully stocked with everything we needed. Ron and Nana were very gracious owners and were there if we needed them. Thanks you R. And N. For everything. Highly recommend it.
This is a sparkling little gem!
We loved our stay here. It was ABSOLUTELY clean and inviting. ...a perfect spot for a river getaway. We enjoyed watching the last of the riverboats ply their way south from our dining room table. In the evening, having the fireplace going sure felt good! The beds were very comfy and the kitchen was well supplied. Our hosts were such fun and very helpful. Yes...we hope to return!
Super clean and cozy house with extraordinary owners
My family ( my husband, girls aged 2 and 5, and I) had a beautiful, wonderful and memorable vacation in Nana and Ron’s river house. It was our first vacation in countryside and it turned to be so special to all of us. My husband caught a large fish, my girls enjoyed beautiful twin room decorations and I enjoyed all parts. We have met so many people before, but Nana and Ron make my family feel so homing. Kids want to stay longer, my husband and I want to meet Nana and Ron as frequently as possible. Highly recommend to everyone.
Since we live next door, we can enjoy and assist our guests if they need something. The River House is good for relaxing and enjoying the view of the beautiful Mississippi River, or for hiking / biking/cross country skiing in our quiet neighborhood or local parks. The fall and winter are especially lovely on the River.
Nana and Ron were gracious hosts without being intrusive. The house is very comfortable and we enjoyed being near the river.
Wonderfully relaxing weekend on the Mississippi.
The house was the perfect home-base for our busy weekend in Savanna/Thomson area. It was comfortable, attractively decorated, and well equipped to fulfill our needs. There were plenty of entertainment options (my grandson enjoyed the board games!), fully equipped kitchen, and deck accommodations to enjoy a quiet morning on the river. We'll definitely look into booking this place again on our next trip to the area!
We always appreciate a review. There are a lot of local events in the Thomson area in the Fall. There are wine festivals, craft shows, and Oktoberfests to enjoy. And there are apple orchards for picking and huge pumpkin fields to enjoy - also beautiful colored leaves, outdoor campfires (and no mosquitos!)

There is plenty of unique shopping and dining in nearby Galena, and The National Mississippi River Museum in Dubuque, Iowa is fabulous.
