About this property

Former Lighthouse Keeper's Home - Southwest Harbor Village. Highspeed Wi-Fi & AC

Formerly known as the Wayside Inn this bright and spacious 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath house has been recently renovated and boosts new stylish furnishings , a large wraparound porch…a great place to have your morning coffee or evening drink.

The house was built in the late 1800s and was previously owned by a retired lighthouse keeper. It is located directly across from the Charlotte Rhodes Butterfly Garden as well as Milagro Coffee Bar and the Shoppes at Southwest Harbor.

We are within walking distance to the downtown Southwest Harbor shops & restaurants as well as the Causeway Club (golf, tennis, squash, pickle ball). We are minutes away from many Acadia National Park hiking trails. The Bass Harbor Light House and Seawall are about a 10 minute drive and Bar Harbor Village about a 20 minute drive.

Please, note the stairs going up to the second floor are steep and could be a safety issue for families with toddlers.

What a wonderful place to call home while visiting around Acadia! We couldn’t have asked for a more comfortable and clean space. We enjoyed our time staying here and would love to return. Great hosts too!

The butterfly garden across the street is so lovely that if this house had been a tar paper shack, it still would have been worth it. And it is a nice home that was perfectly adequate for the family of five adults enjoying Southwest Harbor and Mount Desert Island for a few days. The hiking in the park is just fantastic. Don't miss the beehive. Seeing the sunset from the lighthouse was gorgeous. Good food. Good people. I've never been in Maine in the winter, but it sure is heaven in the summer.

We moved from Seattle to Maine in 1997 and ran our coffee shop "Milagro Coffee & Espresso" on Mt. Desert Island for 22 years. Not only do we love the beauty of the island but the close knit community that exists here.

Why they chose this property

We prefer the more relaxed southern side of the island as Bar Harbor has become to commercial and hectic.

What makes this property unique

This used to be the Wayside Inn built around 1890. It was previous owned by a lighthouse keeper and his wife. It is close to many amenities as well as Acadia National Park hiking trails.
