When evening rolls around, the fire pit takes over: firewood is provided, so all you have to do is strike a match and let the kids stay up twenty minutes past bedtime for one more story. A hammock is strung nearby for whoever claims it first, and the garden and patio give everyone else room to spread out without feeling on top of each other. Upstairs, a queen bedroom with high-end linens and blackout shades gives the grown-ups a quiet retreat, while the bunk room next door (twin-over-full, plus a closet stocked with card and board games) is built for the kids. A full bathroom with a bathtub/shower combo and extra toiletries serves this level, and the in-unit laundry room comes stocked with pods, dryer sheets, and dryer balls — packing light is genuinely an option here.

For an easy afternoon, the Northland Arboretum is 2.4 miles away, with walking trails through the woods that are an easy win with young kids. Three Bear Waterpark, a hit with families, is 3.4 miles out, and Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf is 6.3 miles away for a low-key evening of mini golf. The Paul Bunyan State Trail, a paved biking and walking trail that runs through the whole region, starts just 4.6 miles from the cabin.

For a full family day out, Paul Bunyan Land — a classic amusement park with rides, a petting barn, and a pioneer village — is 12 miles away and remains one of the most-loved family attractions in the Brainerd Lakes area. Safari North Wildlife Park (7.6 miles) is another easy add for younger kids who want to see animals up close. Check-in is at 4:00 PM and checkout is 10:00 AM. You'll receive the property address, smart lock codes for both the log cabin and the entertainment garage, and the digital guidebook about three days before your stay — no keys to juggle, no host meetup required. Guests have full run of Whispering Pines for the length of their stay, aside from one locked owner's closet. We live about 90 minutes away and are reachable by message throughout your trip if you need anything, day or night. The cabin is stocked with a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and carbon monoxide detector for peace of mind, along with extra pillows and blankets if anyone needs them.

PARKING

There's ample outdoor parking directly in front of the detached garage — plenty of room for multiple vehicles, no permit or fee required. We just ask that you park in the designated area rather than on the lawn, since it's easy to damage the grass. If your group is arriving in more than one car, there's no need to coordinate ahead of time — everyone fits.

HOUSE RULES

We keep the rules simple so you can focus on the trip. Check-in is 4:00 PM, checkout is 10:00 AM. Whispering Pines sits in a quiet neighborhood, and Baxter's quiet hours (10 PM–8 AM) are enforced by local law enforcement — please keep noise down after dark, especially around the fire pit and entertainment room. No smoking or vaping of any kind is allowed anywhere on the property. We're unable to accommodate pets, though service animals are always welcome in accordance with state and federal law. Please keep glass containers out of outdoor spaces, and always supervise the fire pit, griddle, and wood pellet grill — make sure any fire is fully out before you leave the area. Fireworks aren't permitted at any time. We ask that outdoor shoes come off at the door (slippers or indoor shoes are fine, and the entertainment room is fair game for outdoor shoes). Whispering Pines comfortably sleeps up to 9 guests — we ask that you keep your group at or under that number so everyone has a comfortable place to stay. Because the entertainment garage sits close to neighboring homes, please keep arcade and TV volume reasonable after 10 PM — the games don't have to stop, just the noise.
