Praia do Itaguá along with Iperoig Beach make up the edge of Ubatuba, concentrating the main tourist attractions of the city such as restaurants, kiosks, bars, ice cream parlors, amusement park, shopping, nightclubs, Ubatuba Aquarium, Tamar Project, crafts and gift shops, convention center, airport, and other establishments.
This region has still large number of agencies specializing in ecotourism and recreational activities, offering a wide range of services such as boat rides, schooner to the Anchieta Island, hiking, bird watching, diving courses, rent kayaks and surfboards, tours with environmental monitors, etc.
The waterfront has a boardwalk by the beach, bike paths, fitness equipment, sand pit, basketball court and skate track, making the region ideal for those who do not give up practicing sports with a breathtaking landscape composed by the Serra do Mar and The ocean.
For those who like to get up early is recommended to go to the waterfront to watch the sunrise. The quiet time is ideal for those who like to meditate on the beach or take a quiet walk listening to the noise of the sea.
The region also has supermarkets, gas stations, convenience stores, pharmacies, health centers, medical clinics, and other infrastructure facilities.
The nearby beaches also have their special attractions:
- The Great Beach (~ 1.1 km) is more busy with dozens of kiosks offering services in the sand, often by surfers;
- Praia do Tenorio (~ 900 m) is a little quieter and smaller than the Great Beach. A little more protected, it is more suitable for children and those who do not want to venture into the waves;
- The center of Red Beach (~ 1.5 km) is more reserved, largely young and surf and bodyboard practitioners;
- The Cedar Beach (~ 2.8 km) is accessed by a road from Tenorio Beach. When stopping the car is necessary to go through a track (10 minutes) to get a small beach surrounded by Atlantic Forest, with clear, calm water, great for those who want to make a recreational diving. Another option to get there is through a schooner, from Itaguá Beach.
In all the city has more than 100 beaches, dozens of waterfalls and trails, dive sites and many other natural attractions, and easily access them. The region is crossed by the highway BR 101 (Rio-Santos), connected with highways Tamoios and Oswaldo Cruz. The highway is also possible to access the south coast beaches of Ubatuba (Fortaleza, Bonete, Cedar, Lagoinha Maranduba, etc.) and the north coast city beaches (Itamambuca, Felix, Camburi, Finance, Prumirim, Almada, Poruba, Picinguaba, Ubatumirim, etc.)
