Our house is located on the north shore of Oahu, less than two miles west of Sunset Beach, the world famous surfing beach, and about one and a half miles west of Backyards (Velzyland), which is an equally well-known windsurfing site. A lesser known and uncrowded surfing area is offshore from our property. We are directly on the ocean, with year-round sunsets, and whales passing by during the winter months. The house sits on a flat, rocky reef, with sandy beaches a very short walking distance to the left and to the right. An offshore reef protects us from the pounding waves, and provides safe swimming and snorkeling. Honolulu is a one-hour drive away, but we are also directly on the bus line.

The vacation unit is in a separate wing of the main house and has its own private entrance. It shares a large deck and a large patio, both overlooking the water, with tables, lounge chairs, and a small charcoal barbecue. It is an upstairs-downstairs arrangement, with a large, airy bedroom upstairs, and a small sitting room and bath (combined tub and shower) below. Both rooms have ocean views.

An inclined ladder-staircase leads to the bedroom (please see photo), which contains a king-size bed, a chest of drawers, and hang-up space.

The downstairs sitting room contains a couch and a TV (cable/44 channels). There is NO KITCHEN OR STOVE, but the downstairs room has a small refrigerator, a microwave, single burner hot plate, coffee maker, toaster, and small, fold-away TV tables. There are also dishes and utensils, adequate for light cooking, using the bathroom sink for cleanup. We also have a washing machine and dryer available for guest use. As with many other ocean front homes on the North Shore, we are located on the around-island highway, so there is some vehicle noise in the bedroom at certain times. It is not heard in the sitting room or on the deck. Because of the possible hazard with the inclined staircase and the steep deck stairs (see photos), we cannot accept small children.

We require a five night minimum stay.

A great location with some pitfalls

We were very pleased when we first saw the property. About 40 feet from the shoreline with beautiful scenery. But we also soon realized there were some negatives too. As they said, the bedroom is in a loft. The climb is a bit treacherous. Especially if you need the bathroom at night, which is downstairs. NOT for anyone who is even slightly mobility challenged. The ceiling beams upstairs are quite low and if you are over 5' 2" you will bang your head at least once until you get used to it. The beach at the house is a rocky beach, but you are in easy driving distance to some world class sandy beaches. Close to Laie, Turtle Bay and not far from Haliewa. The house can be hard to locate when driving to it, especially at night and it took a few days to get the hang of it. Probably the worst thing about the loft is the windows that face Kamehameha Highway. Even closed, there is considerable traffic noise. After a while, we acclimated to it, but if you are only doing a short stay, it would likely be too annoying. Still, it's a beautiful property. The owners are friendly and helpful and it's a rare low-cost option on the stunning North Shore.

Lovely

Ann and Richard are very kind and they have an amazingly beautiful home! It was just the right amount of space needed for a vacation. Secluded and has the prettiest view of the sunset and the island. They have an abundance of food trucks near them so you are close to everything. My husband and I loved the stay. Definitely would stay here again.

Fantastic location!! A great place to enjoy the beautiful North Shore!!

The view is beautiful!! The owners are great. The lower floor of the loft is small but functional and it provided for all of our needs. The loft bedroom is bigger and the bed is quite comfortable. I am 58 and had no trouble climbing the ladder to the loft, but some might have an issue with it. We enjoyed our stay here and will be back. We spent a lot of time on the lanai, drinking coffee and having breakfast in the morning, watching the waves, listening to the crashing surf, and relaxing in the amazing beauty of Hawaii!! A sandy beach is just a short walk down the road, as this oceanfront is beautiful, but a difficult climb to a lava rock beach. There are many world famous beaches just a short drive away, as well. I don't think I can say too many times how beautiful it is here and how close you are to the water. We had a great, relaxing and hassle free time!

Great North Shore Property

Accommodations as advertised - no surprises. Good location and great Owners. Some road noise - didn't bother us but can understand the comments from others. Stayed 11 nights in September and enjoyed the sunset while BBQing in the backyard on multiple occasions. Foodland Groceries, Ted's Bakery, food trucks, and roadside fruit stands are close and reasonable. Good snorkeling at Shark's Cove and saw turtles each day at the submerged rocks near the jumping rock at Waimea Bay beach. Couldn't have asked for anything more - no regrets

Wonderful Beach Front Loft

To say this was a, “pleasant place to stay” would be a total injustice to the owner’s and the property. We had an incredible vacation, in part, due to this charming little Loft that sat right on the beach front, where we enjoyed beautiful sunsets every night. It is one of two rental’s that are attached to the owners own house…which is not a concern, because they are an awesome couple. The Loft, where we stayed…is in the middle, between the house and the little one room apartment rental. I had really big reservations at first about the ladder when we initially rented it, but once we got settled in and I had cleared the ladder a couple of times, they were not a problem. It is a quaint little Loft…small downstairs, large upstairs bedroom, just right for two! The kings size bed was actually two twin beds, pulled together to make one. However, the little connector in the middle works great and it was just like sleeping on a comfortable king size bed. After a couple of nights, the “traffic noise” that is mentioned in other reviews, was not a problem for my husband; I used earplugs and you do get used to it after a couple of nights. The place was clean, with a little fridge, hotplate, toaster, microwave, as well as, a hair dryer and iron. The bathroom was not large, but two can manage fine, if you can maneuver around the door. The living area has a futon and a little TV, right as you step inside the room, from outside. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!! The couple that owns this little place are WONDERFUL!! They were so very helpful anytime me, or my husband, needed anything. They were ALWAYS very accommodating. I can’t say enough good things about Ann and Richard. If you happen to read this, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for EVERYTHING!!
