My husband and I stayed at Siobhan and Geoff's house over Thanksgiving to celebrate a belated 40th wedding anniversary. We had done the touristy beach vacation 32 years ago, and wanted something quiet, peaceful, and different. We were thrilled to find this secluded spot in Upcountry Maui. Everything about the house and the property was PERFECT - all of the necessities right at your fingertips; I could tell Siobhan and Geoff had thought carefully about what their guests would need. The "lanai" off the dining room was so nice to use for morning coffee/breakfast, as we stayed during the rainy season, and we could enjoy the outdoors without getting wet. The master bedroom was awesome and inviting, and we slept well, de-stressing more every day. Top of the line appliances, gas grill, and more made the stay so easy. After a day of sightseeing we often wanted to cook dinner at home, and we were able to do that. This was a great location - centrally located to just about any place on Maui. Easy to get to from the airport, but you feel you are far away from the hustle and bustle. We tried all 3 forest preserves nearby, as we like to hike. And if it was raining, we could zip down to South/West Maui to the beaches and have dry weather in no time. The winding road to the property made it even more secluded, and it was so nice to relax outfront with wine as the sun came up or down. Makawao Town is funky and fun. Great bakery, small grocery, and lots of boutiques, but still an unrushed small town atmosphere. Easy to pick up the road to Hana without having to go through crowded Paia Town, although we did visit that town twice. There is plenty to do in Upcountry besides visiting Haleakala. Loved the lavender farm and the Research Forest, the latter making you feel as if you were actually in Vermont instead of Hawaii. We aren't beach people, so we enjoyed museums and the general outdoors.
You know you are in the right place when you start wondering how you can afford to live there.
Siobhan and Goeff were marvelous hosts - they even left an anniversary gift on the doorstep one day while we were out. Easy to work with, and very professional. I had no worries for this trip - I knew whatever we needed would be taken care of.
Our next trip to Maui will definitely include another stay at this lovely house. It was SO AWESOME. Thanks, Siobhan and Geoff, for helping to make our vacation so wonderful. Loved the goats and free range chickens!!
Communucation with Siobhan was easy. I usually send several emails when booking and she was extremely helpful and responsive. When my son and I arrived down the beautiful road into the cottage we were awestruck...it was everything we imagined and more. Everything was top notch, beds, bedding, towels, BBQ and kitchen with everything you need. She even had coffee creamer in the fridge and we forgot ketchup but guess what there were packets in the fridge. Words cannot describe how beautiful this place was, beautiful architecture and so many special touches. Beautiful porch, laundry with laundry soap already there. She had a basket of Maui goodies - chips, coffee, cookies, chocolates...thank you so much Siobhan. I was looking for a truly upcountry experience and it was stunning. Don't forget to go outside and sit in the zero gravity loungers and look at the millions of stars. Upcountry can be chilly in the mornings but there was a little heater we'd turn on for a short time if we felt chilled, usually didn't need. The house sleeps several but we didn't need all the beds so each had our own room and bathroom. Very special! With gratitude, Bridget
My family and myself have been able to stay at some really great properties in Hawaii. Really, all types, ranging from The Four Seasons in Wailea, the casual, but elegant Hana Travassa, private homes in Kauai that were off the charts, and a couple of others. I have been to Hawaii countless times over the last twenty years, and lived in Maui for 2 years. So when we found a property at this price point, we were a little unsure, although we were looking for some Upcountry Maui tranquility.
It turned out to be perfect, and much, much better than advertised. It was quaint, quiet, peaceful, clean and had everything we needed. The welcome basket was overflowing with chocolate macadamia nuts, a big bag of Maui chips, fresh coffee, and those incredible chocolate chip and macnut cookies from Hawaii. The yard was private and just the right size for my two sons and I to throw the football and get some energy out. The goats added an additional bit of excitement(one reared his head back and tried to ram my 10 year old, but the fence stopped him. That provided some very funny video!) And seeing the family of Axis deer was an added bonus.
This is a well kept property with every amenity needed, in excellent condition. We were never bothered by anyone, and the quiet, safe and peaceful surroundings were just what we needed. We also liked driving down the long private dirt driveway. If this is the type of property you are looking for, you should definitely book it.
Thanks so much to the owners. We never said hello, or met you, but we will be back.
We really enjoyed our stay in the spacy house. The house is perfectly equipped, clean and has plenty of space to stay with a family of 5 (even more people). It is somewhat unusual to stay so close to an active volcano - so it is only a view minutes to drive to the national park with plenty of things to do. We enjoyed the nice for Hawaii cool climate.
We have always stayed by the beach on Maui so this visit we wanted to experience the upcountry vibe.
The house is wonderful. It is so quiet and peaceful. The grounds are lush and it is fun to see all the wild life, goats, roosters, chickens and deer (that we heard but did not see).
Our hosts were there if we needed them but we had total privacy.
A great stay, thank you :)
None of the reviews I read prepared us for how amazing, beautiful, and magical not only this house is but the property and neighborhood is my happy place. Every amenity is here, towels, dishes...all so homey. The owners spared no expense. We LOVE this house. Period. LOVE! Five stars/ HIGHLY RECOMMENED!!! Love!!!
Located just six miles to Kula where you'll find the entrance to Haleakala National Park and the Ali'i Lavender Farm. Just three miles from Piiholo Zipline. Six miles to the Surfing Goat Dairy. One mile from the rodeo arena and polo grounds.
Makawao town hosts a large array of boutiques, electric shops and restaurants with the area around the town, perfect for scenic drives through the nearby flower farms or long hikes through the surrounding eucalyptus forests.
