About Joe Pappaly / Mimi
We are Joe & Mimi, the owners who live in the main house upstairs in this beautiful Victorian. We purchased this house a few months ago, did some major renovation and decided to rent out the units below as vacation rentals. We would love to share our home with you and even give you some insights as to what to do, where to go and be of help if you are unsure of how to get around in the Bay Area, during your stay with us.
Joe Pappaly / Mimi purchased this Apartment in 2012
Why Joe Pappaly / Mimi chose Alameda
We bought this property because we always wanted to live in a Victorian and we simply love Alameda. The people, the weather, the proximity to everything and most of all the tranquility of this island.
What makes this Apartment unique
We chose this particular property because of its unique Victorian look & feel of it. This home was built in 1891 by Peter Christiansen who was a very well known builder during his time. History books claim that he had built several victorian homes in Alameda. This particular home that he had built was for himself. Historians claim that because of that, he used the best types of wood and construction materials available during his era to build this home. It sure seemed like that during our major remodel.

Great location and excellent house!
Alameda is really the place to stay when you visit the San Francisco Area. Everything is laid back there. 25 mph on the streets and friendly people! This place is within walking distance of downtown Alameda with shops, a movie theater, and restaurants. This house was very clean and all amenities were provided. Would definitely stay here again.
I’ve stayed in many VRBO’s, but this one is so comfortable and pleasant, with such a welcoming atmosphere, that I keep coming back. It is a well-set up floor plan nicely furnished with many unexpected extra conveniences. It is one of the very few VRBO’s where I haven’t felt cold. The neighborhood is charming and I feel safe there. Joe and Mimi are excellent VRBO hosts and have been very accommodating to my needs this past trip. Great oasis in the middle of the Bay Area!
Lovely spot! Well appointed, spotless! Joe is a kind and accommodating owner. We’ll be back. Thank you Joe and Mimi.
The place was very nice and clean. They supplied several items that made the stay so much more convenient. They also helped anytime with questions on where to go and the best options.
Will do it again!
This was out first experience with VRBO and certainly won't be our last.
From the moment we saw the wreath on the door to the Christmas tree, stockings, and other decorative touches inside, it felt like home. It was clean and comfortable and our hosts seem to have thought of everything we might need, and then some. They quickly responded when I called about 8 pm after getting there, and said I could not find the hair dryer. Within five minutes she brought down another hair dryer, and took the time to show us how to use the tv controls, etc. We thourghly enjoyed having "our place" to retreat to every evening. It was perfect for the two of us.
Hi Melinda, so glad your first experience was satisfying. We hope to see you both again and next time, hopefully we can meet and have a glass of wine. Thank you for the kind review.
Lovely, affordable property
We use VRBO on a regular basis (this was out third rental in 2017) and this property was, by far, the nicest. The apartment is so well stocked - coffee, filters, spices, condiments, plus all of your paper goods, dish soap, body wash and shampoo! - we only had to buy the food we wanted to eat. There was a bottle of wine and some chocolates to greet us along with a binder with detailed directions for everything - so thoughtful, I wish every rental was like this (they aren't!!) . There is premium cable TV along with a surround sound system, a massage chair an electric fire place - just so many extras!!!. The house is 6 blocks from Park Street which has plenty of restaurants, bars and shops. We did not rent a car, so we used Uber to get to the ferry to San Francisco - such a fun day trip! Overall, one of the nicest properties we have ever rented - it will be on the top of our list if we ever return to Alameda - highly recommended!
Thanks Karen. Appreciate the fact that you compared us to your prior rentals and gave us a Thumbs Up.
