This place is very nice!! We love the Spearfish Canyon area. We ate a Cheyenne Crossing all 3 mornings, one of our faves!! I loved the fact that it had a king size bed. You don't find that often in a VRBO. It was chilly while we were here, but the propane stove and base board heat were plenty to keep it comfortable. They don't have cable, only 4 TV channels, and only 2 came in clearly. They did have a DVD library, that we took advantage of. Also, no Wi-Fi. I think cable/satellite and Wi-Fi would be a plus to add in the future. But it's also good to "unplug" once in a while too. We didn't have children with us, but they have toys and games for small children too. Close to Deadwood/Lead. We loved the quiet street and stream across the road. I would recommend to our friends and family!!

It doesn't get any better than Spearfish Canyon!

  • 5 of 5

My wife, another couple, and myself spent six nights here during the motorcycle rally this year. I can say it was absolutely relaxing to come back to the nice, quite, cool Spearfish Canyon area each evening. The views and the sounds are extremely peaceful. And the stars at night - I didn't know there were so many! Our only disappointment was the hot tub that was not working - as it turns out, I overlooked that it was not listed as an amenity. However, now it is also noted as not functioning - so hopefully no one else encounters the same misunderstanding. And as a note, be sure to keep Jarrod's contact information handy / programmed into your phone - if / when the electronic lock stops functioning, you'll need to be able to get ahold of him to get in. :)

Only regret... too short a stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four stayed in this charming house for 4 nights. Each of my boys stayed in the upstairs lofted bedrooms, while my husband and I stayed downstairs. The house itself is well cared for and very clean, which was important to us because my son has allergies that can trigger asthma. We appreciate the no pet policy. It's about an hour (one way) North of Custer State park (Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, etc). Devil's Tower (in WY) is about an hour NW. Spearfish Canyon, where this cabin is located, is absolutely beautiful. There is a clear stream with a small waterfall near the cabin that my boys enjoyed playing in. On our last night there, the night sky was so clear we could see a million stars and the Milky Way!

The kitchen was adequate to prepare the meals we made. We ate all our breakfasts at the house, packed lunches for our days out, and had one dinner at the house. Lynn's Dakotamart is nearby for groceries.

Our phone service was pretty much non-existent at the house. We're from Cleveland, OH and have T-mobile. Maybe other service providers are better. Our service has been poor in other mountainous regions, so this was no big surprise. There is no wifi or phone at the house to use as backup.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this property. I wish we could've stayed a few nights longer!!

Great house!

  • 4 of 5

We had 3 couples spending a few days together and had plenty of room. I wish the beds upstairs were a bit bigger and had 4 walls instead of 3 which made for lack of privacy. We also wished that wi-fi was available but otherwise the house had everything we needed! Sitting out on the porch each evening made for a perfect ending to the day. Jarrod was prompt in responding to our questions prior to and during our trip.

Thanks for an enjoyable time.

Great location in the hills and very nice well kept cabin!

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was awesome! Very roomy and great for our family with two toddlers! Only complaint would be better snow removal up the driveway and around the garage. But it's winter! Would definitely rent again!

Owner's Response: Angela, we are glad you enjoyed your stay. I know we had lots of snow over that week and I'm sorry the snow removal wasn't done in a better way. The property does get a lot of snow throughout the winter and they are usually very diligent about appropriately cleaning the driveway. If you stay again, please let us know so we can get it taken care of immediately! Jarrod Owner

The most beautiful drive through the Black Hills is right down the road. We love to take drives through Spearfish Canyon in any season - especially to watch the fall colors. The skiing at Terry Peak and Mystic Miner (formerly Deer Mountain) is right down the road. We feel secluded and nestled in the mountains, but the fun and history of Lead/Deadwood is right around the corner. There is so much to do!
