About Karen O'Keefe

Our family lives full time in downtown Plymouth, Michigan. We love our getaway in Boyne during the winter months and summer. We try to get up 1-2 times per month and rent the other week-ends. Our two boys grew up skiing in the winter and wake-boarding in the summer.

Karen O'Keefe purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Karen O'Keefe chose Lake Charlevoix

It is very private with a wooded lot to our left and a cottage that is rarely visited on our right. We are located right on Deer Lake. Sunsets are beautiful year long. In the winter you can typically see 6+ deer out on the lake around dusk.

What makes this cottage unique

Amazing sunsets and great bonfire pit makes for excellent evenings up north. Two six foot sliding glass doors look out to Deer Lake for an amazing views. We are a six minute drive to Avalanche Bay and the Boyne Mountain Grand and all it's amenities.

Very nice location on Deer Lake. House was pretty musty smelling when we opened it up.

Owner's Response: Sorry it was musty. It was the beginning of the season, and a very wet spring in northern Michigan. We are not up as often in May and June so the cottage is shut, windows closed etc.. We find that once you open the windows on both sides of the cottage, the lake breeze freshens it up quickly. Thank you!

Great for multi family gathering and kids!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay! We had three family groups stay including two children. There were beds for everyone and space aplenty! We cooked at the cottage and found all needed tools! Owner was fabulous to work with! Best part was the lovely sandy bottom and shallow water in the back! Multiple picnic tables on the deck and we enjoyed several meals outside! You cannot go wrong staying here! Would come back again!

Enough space for 3 family's

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week in July 2015. The place had plenty of room for 7 adults and 3 kids that we had. The kids room was perfect for them. The view of the lake was great. Short trip to Boyne city was a breeze. We had plenty of things we did which included casino trip, canoeing, zip line and indoor water park at Boyne mountain when it rained our last day.Petoskey and casino is only 20 minutes away from the house. Water was perfect for adults and kids. We took our chairs out in the lake and just relaxed while the kids swam.clean and comfortable . we would rent here for sure. House also comes equipped with 2 kayaks and row boat. Great place for a vacation.

Karen was great from beginning to the end.

Quite Cabin in Boyne Falls

  • 4 of 5

This cabin has an amazing view of Deer Lake right out the back nice little dock and a fire pit. Only about 20 minutes from ATV trails. 1 hour from Traverse City (Ropes course, mini golf, go carts, zipline, etc) and Mackinaw Island (fudge and horse drawn carriage rides). 1.5 hours from Sleeping Bear Dunes. One of our main concerns was space there was 11 of us staying in this cabin and it had ample room for 10 adults and 1 child :) We found that the lake has pretty good fishing in the northwest corner caught some pretty large small mouth bass (18+ inches). Also, went out cherry picking in one of the local orchards and had over 40 pounds of fresh cherries in under an hour they are SO GOOD!!!! Cabin inside was neat an orderly had all the amenities one could want: TV, washer/dryer, boat, BBQ grill, lots of board games. Definitely would stay here again.

Our family was looking for a cabin in northwestern Michigan. This Cabin is in a great location right on Deer Lake by Boyne Falls, MI. This is within a hour drive to Mackinaw island, Traverse City and hour and half from sleeping bear dunes. Luckily for us this cabin had adequate sleeping quarters as there are 11 of us 10 adults one child. Great view of the lake, only about 20 minutes from two-tracks for trail riding. The local farmers market had some great crepes and the local restaurants were good. While staying at the cabin we went to a local orchard and picked cherries which is an absolute must! Lake has pretty good fishing in the north west corner caught a pretty large small mouth bass :) The fire pit is a great addition to the cabin for sharing smores and campfire stories. We'll definitely be back!
