Living and working primarily in Toronto this property is a welcome escape in a wonderful and vibrant community.
Libby Starke purchased this house in 2008
As a second property we decided living in town was the way to go - close to the shops, grocery stores, great restaurants as well as in quick driving distance from all the wonderful wineries, galleries, beaches and attractions in the County. We love the historical feel of the house and the quiet neighbourhood that it's in. The pool gives it that feeling of a resort - it's a great spot!
Guests that have stayed at this house have really enjoyed the screened porch and the pool, of course, but they have also loved the old fashioned feel of the house complimented with modern conveniences like great beds, sofas, flat screened tv, Keurig coffee maker, etc. They like the gardens with both flowers and herbs and vegetables and the very modern outhouse and have enjoyed what the area can offer such as bike rentals, yoga, massages, wine tours, old time movies - and a drive-in! - basically the feeling of small town 'yesterday' in 2015.
Everything looks fantastic. Your place is amazing. I love it. The fan in the bedroom works great I was surprised on how much it cooled the room.
My husband and I loved staying in this house! It was just perfect for the two of us. Mornings we would go into town for whatever groceries we needed and the rest of the day we would generally spend by the beautiful salt water pool - no smell of chlorine! The garden was an oasis and very private. Evenings we would either barbeque dinner and sit on the screened porch listening to the birds and cicadas or else we would drive to one of the really wonderful local restaurants. Blumen on the outskirts of Picton in unfailingly good and has the best lunch deal ever! Another favourite is Pomodoro in Wellington with really nice, simple and delicious Italian food.
About the action: there is so much to do in this gorgeous rural community! We rented a pontoon boat and went over to Sandbanks with a picnic. On Thursday we drove over to the Canadian Tire parking lot for the car show - astonishingly fun. There are really interesting museums like the Marine Museum, Rose Museum and the really good one in Ameliasburgh. The art galleries in town and out are major food for thought and speaking yet again of food - drives to Vickie's Veggies, Fifth Town Cheese and the markets in Waupoos are a great way to spend a day. We will be back!
We (mother/daughter) stayed here for a week long get-away in August and had a fabulous time. We thought we'd do more exploring but the gorgeous, private backyard with pool and screened porch claimed half our time. Everything in downtown Picton is walking distance - very convenient for groceries, cafes, restaurants etc. Sandbanks is a short drive away and easily one of the best beaches in Ontario if you want a change from the pool. The house is very comfortable, charming and quiet - wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for a holiday stay!
My stay at this property was really great. The location is amazing. You can walk into the town of Picton where there are shops and restaurants galore. The backyard is really an oasis. You really can't believe your in the heart of a town while laying by this salt water pool. The screened in dining room is another huge plus. We ate all of our meals out there..BUG FREE. Who needs a cottage when you have this incredible property right in the heart of a quaint little town. We explored all of the outside little towns as well, plus a couple of winery's. What can I say...we had a blast....
This property really has it all! Location, style, comfort and a pool, quite rare in Picton. The House is located on a quiet leafy street, yet only a few minutes' walk from the main street and all the lovely shops, restaurants, galleries and the all important supermarkets. As it's self-catering, you can choose gourmet , or not, however you feel. Once the shopping is done, food can be prepared in the spotless, well appointed kitchen.
Having explored the delights of Picton town, return to the oasis that is 12 Grove Street. After a dip in the pool, relax on the sun loungers and watch the sun slowly sink behind the trees. A quick shower, outside if you fancy, and then enjoy the garden from the screen room over looking the garden. If you're with teenagers, there is plenty for them to do in the day and the evenings and there is enough space in the House to spread out if you need to.
The bedrooms are tasteful, comfortable and hugely inviting. After a good night's sleep you can get up, hire a car and explore Prince Edward County, there's so much to do. Our favourites are the vineyards and cider houses, lunch al fresco has never been so good, try The Grange. You are never far from the water in Picton and all that it has to offer, either on it or just looking at it. It's all beautiful!
I hope anyone who rents this property will have as good a time as we have. Enjoy!
Prince Edward County is renowned for its wineries, art studios, biking and walking trails, vegetable stands, markets and beaches. There are wonderful restaurants and an old fashioned small town atmosphere.
