This cottage retreat is a perfect setting to unwind and reconnect with nature.

My family of 13 people spent 4 days at the Cottage. We highly recommend this getaway to anyone looking to experience the tranquility and charm of a cottage stay by the Ottawa River. It’s a true haven for relaxation and fun, offering something special for everyone in the family. Renee was a super host, keeping us updated as needed, and helpful throughout our stay. We will be back if and when possible.

Amazing vacation!

We were looking for an adapted cottage by the water so my 87-year old mother could join us and the kids. This cottage was perfect for us! It's very quiet, well appointed, very clean, and a great spot for swimming and water sports (kayaking, paddle boarding, etc..). We loved it! And so did my elderly mother who is mobile, but really appappretiated the disability features. Renée is a fantastic host.

Amazing Chalet, Location and Views - with Big Brother

The property is located on the majestic Ottawa River with amazing views and waterways. The chalet is a perfect location for hosting family and friends and is very well maintained. The swimming area is decent, would recommend water shoes due to some clams in the water. The fishing is amazing, you can literally throw a line out from shore and be catching fish. It is a perfect location. However, as a result of the owner remaining on-site in the adjacent 5th wheel trailer the availability of having the place to your family honestly did not happen. There was the feeling of "Big Brother" being there watching. The proximity of the trailer to the chalet is way to close. When you can overhear conversations taking place by the owner while inside the trailer negates the feeling of being their on your own. It makes you realize also that this can be applied both ways where your conversations can be clearly overheard also. Unfortunately this took away the feeling of a getaway with family.

Owner stays on property

As the title says, the owner is on the property with you. The part of the description that states a 5th wheel is on the adjacent property and is occupied or available for rent, actually means it’s located in the waterside yard and the owner stays there during your stay. This wouldn’t be a big deal, so long as people are well aware before arriving and spending the money you would expect of a more private setting. I felt the written description was purposefully evasive of this, and the photos were very very strategically taken to crop out the trailer. You cannot look out the windows toward the lake without seeing the trailer, and the stuff piled up around it, and you are always within earshot of the owner. The owner is friendly and eager to please, which meant she would wander over at times to check how we’re doing. With that out of the way, everything else is accurate and perfect. The rustic cottage is great, you're on an excellent section of the river, and there is a nice sandy beach. We had a great time.

Spacious Cottage

Great place! The owner is on the property with you and is very helpful and attentive. The water has a shallow entry, which is great for kids and dogs. The cottage was comfortable and well stocked. Pembroke is nearby and has everything you might need.

Fantastic property with a fantastic host!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week away during this long-stretching pandemic. The cottage had more than enough room for our two families and the near-internet free experience was a great way to rewind time and just enjoy the waterfront. Our kids loved the beach and Renee was a splendid host. Thanks again!

Weekend getaway

We stayed 3 nights at Renee’s place. The cottage is fully loaded with everything you need and more. Cottage was very clean and well kept. The only thing is the communication with the owner prior to checking could be improved, though once we arrived everything was smooth sailing. Would highly recommend to others and would certainly book again in the future.

Fabulous beach and cottage with a few surprises

We had a pleasant stay at this cottage with our mulltigenerational family (grandmother, 2 parents, 2 teens and a dog) over a cold, rainy week in August 2020. The beach and firepit are fabulous, with lots of lawn chairs available to use. The beds and bathrooms were very clean and comfortable with lots of clean beach and bath towels available to use, toilet paper, soap, etc. The duvets and extra blankets kept us warm, and the fireplace with lots of wood was appreciated! Renee even came to light a fire to make sure that we stayed warm. There were a few surprises for us though. First is that the owner actually stays in a trailer on the site - there are advantages and disadvantages to that of course, and she is attentive, but respectful of privacy. Other neighbours are close, but quiet. There is also very limited cell service on the island, and the internet connection is slow - good for an unplugged vacation. There is satellite TV with lots of stations. Also the second floor bathroom is located in one of the twin bedrooms (the one with the loft). There is no outdoor dining table. Like most cottages that we've rented, water quality is unknown, so the owner supplies a nice water dispenser and bottled water. In the kitchen, in addition to bringing your food, you should bring items like aluminum foil, plastic wrap, paper towel, garbage bags etc, You may also want to bring indoor and outdoor games and beach toys (Scrabble and Monopoly games are supplied). Finally, we don't know if this is common with VRBO rentals since we don't use the site often but there were substantial extra charges that surprised us when booking the week (extra guest, internet, vrbo fee, cleaning, taxes) so the final amount was an additional 2/3 of the advertised.. Overall, it was a very nice place to stay and we did enjoy our visit - there were just a few things that we wished we had known when booking and packing.

Perfect mix of classic cottage experience & modern convenience

This venue had everything we were looking for. The location has a classic rustic feel to it, with its A-frame design, decorative choices, view and beach. But it also has the modern amenities like wifi, satellite tv and ceiling fans to make your stay just that bit more enjoyable. And it has the room to accommodate a larger group like us. Only item to watch for is to not bring too much stuff with you! Huge selection of towels, lawn chairs, dishes, pots pans made it so easy - you only need to bring your clothes, and food - everything else was made available for use. The beach and river was outstanding - calm mornings watching the loons, lapping shores in the evening, and the ability to walk out in the river for what felt like miles. Then - cap it off with an evening fire, and everyone goes to bed happy. From confirming the reservation months ago, to locking up at the end of the stay, Renee and Lloyd made us feel at home the entire experience. Our extended family (and dog) had a blast. An absolute gem on the Ottawa river!

Fabulous cottage and beach

This is the second time we stay at Renee’s charming cottage and we look forward to going back. It is fully stocked and well maintained with plenty of space to relax. The cottage has everything you need and more - lots of dishes, bath towels, beach towels, extra blankets, lawn chairs, firewood, even Wi-Fi and satellite TV for a rainy day. The sandy beach and clear shallow water make it great for kids. The large grassy area made for many games of catch, lawn darts and kicking the soccer ball. The town of Chapeau is just down the road with a fabulous bakery and a butchery - the T-bones were amazing!! Renee is great to deal with, as is Lloyd. Thank you for a wonderful week!

Wonderful stay with a perfect location and clear water view

There was plenty of room for 8 family members to sleep at night and for 20 family members during the day. Lot's of room to spread out and enjoy the property. The beach area was perfect for gathering to swim and relax during the day and star gaze at night. The cottage is located right on the water with a clear view of the water making it very inviting to be at the beach and water. There is a big deck to hang out as well. Lots of everything you need - deck chairs, BBQ, beach towels, patio table and umbrella. Meal prep was easy with a spacious kitchen area and all the amenities we needed to prepare, cook and serve food. The property owners were available when we called and were very accommodating. There are cottages close by on either side and we were aware of the noise level - trying to keep music low and voices down especially at night. Not sure we were successful. But we did have a great time with our family and that's what we wanted - a special place to gather from various locations to enjoy precious family time together. Thank you Renee. We loved it.

As good as you can get

Stayed for 7 days in August. There were 7-8 of us there the whole time and never felt cramped at all. This is one of those places where the pictures don't do it justice. It's even nicer in person. Views are incredible from upper balcony off the master bedroom. I am already planning next year. Has everything you need to have a good time, all you need to do is show up. Lloyd the property manager is great and makes you feel right at home. Makes himself easily accessible throughout the week if needed. No one will be disappointed with this place.

Second year as good as the first!

This was our second visit at this wonderful cottage. Our children and grandchildren really enjoyed spending lots of time frolicking in the river, playing games on the spacious lawn, roasting marshmallows and wieners on the open fire, playing board games on the deck or just relaxing. The cottage is a perfect size for us, with the two couches and large dining room table. Plus the deck is big enough to accommodate all of us and our growing supply of floaties for the river. As the resident cook, I am happy to say that the kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils, making my job much easier. For our one day of rain we headed to Hugli's Blueberry farm, just 25 minutes away. Here we picked our own blueberries and enjoyed the slide and petting zoo. An all around great family holiday.

Stellar cottage and location

We took our kids and grandkids here for a one week family holiday. We all had an absolutely wonderful time. The cottage was very roomy (there were 8 of us). The amenities were excellent. The main deck became our general living area during daylight. The waterfront was great - at least 3 swims a day. We also brought our canoe, so exploring the surrounding area was also very nice. The grassy area in front of the cottage was a really good size, perfect for our hammock and beach couches. Plus, really good for our grandkids for playing games. All in all a wonderful family holiday in a really lovely location. If available we plan to go back next year! Laura and Eric
