About John Lacey
We have four children and love to travel with close friends to Northern Michigan every year.
John Lacey purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why John Lacey chose Beulah
We bought this property as our family getaway. We travel with our friends to Northern Michigan every summer and were looking for a house that could accommodate all of us and be close to all of the places we love to go in the area.
What makes this Cottage unique
This cottage turned out to be a perfect fit! We are close to the Dunes and boating on the Platte River, as well as the wonderful Lake Michigan beaches. The Bunkhouse is an amazing addition to our vacation as our children are able to have the adventure of staying in their own space while the grownups have a chance to enjoy each other's company. Turtle Lake is beautiful and I love nothing more than to grab my cup of coffee in the morning and walk the few feet down to the dock and sit there watching the lake. I hope you will love it as much as we do!

Family getaway was a really great time! The cottage was extremely clean had plenty of room and everything and more than we expected. We definitely utilized the space above the garage. We spent a lot of time in the lake. The canoe, kayaks and rowboat came in very handy for the little kids as well as the adult kids. We had a fire every evening. I can’t say enough about our family vacation, this was a wonderful week and I would definitely recommend!
Fantastic family cottage
We had an amazing week at Turtle Lake Cottage. It is the perfect family spot. The owner, John, was great to work with. The cabin is very clean and well cared for. Everything is within a 15-60 minute drive (Frankfort, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Leland, Glen Arbor, etc.), and all of the drives are beautiful. We enjoyed the fire pit every night, and used the two kayaks daily. Turtle Lake is crystal clear (and yes, there are lots of turtles!). There are plenty of other games and activities available at the cottage as well--the kids especially enjoyed the ping pong table. The kitchen is very well stocked with pots, pans, bowls, utensils--really anything you can think of. Everything we needed was there, which was great, because we ate most meals at the cottage. The house stayed cool most of the week because of all the trees on the property. The ceiling fans in all of the rooms help as well. We did use the single window air conditioner on the last day, and it easily cooled the entire house. The only potential drawback is that if you're looking for total silence and solitude, this may not be the place for you. There is a campground right across the lake, and the noise carries over, but it's not a deal breaker. It's not a party kind of campground--definitely a family campground.
We would absolutely recommend Turtle Lake Cottage. Everyone had such a great time, it was hard to leave at the end of the week. It's a cozy, welcoming place that feels like home away from home.
Great place to stay!
Right in the middle between the sites and town. Plus plenty to do at Turtle lake with everything we needed furnished onsite.
2019 Stay During 4th of July Week
Great property. Super clean with nice view of the lake. Met all of our needs and enjoyed sitting on the dock and floating in our tube on the lake. Owner very nice and easy to reach. Would stay here again.
Great family vacation spot
Very nice home. Love the bunk house. Was great to send my teenage girls out there to have there own private area where they can be loud if they want. At same time the adult in main house with peace and quiet for a true vacation.
The lake is great for swimming and kayaking. Also great for small boats nothing very big otherwise problems with launching. The fishing is slow there, but the bluegills are very huge. Some of the biggest I've caught.
Near by there is Duck lake which I recommend for fishing. Very plentiful amounts with large variety of fish. Caught daily limit there.
They have everything you could possibly need there.
Amazing Family Vacation Spot
We loved our stay at the Turtle Lake Cottage. The house and amenities were all as described. We enjoyed paddling on Turtle Lake and relaxing in the beautiful cottage. So many nearby attractions at Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City and surrounding areas. Many great family memories were made. Thanks for a great stay. I would definitely recommend this property.
We are so pleased you loved your stay at the cottage! Your review is very much appreciated and we hope you can stay again in the future. Every year we come to Northern Michigan there is something different and exciting to explore. John and Tricia
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, our favorite, is just a 25 minute drive and there are several public beaches along the spectacular Lake Michigan shoreline.
Lake Ann, the "Small But Friendly" village, is 10 minutes away. The Red Door Coffee House features coffee, lattes, baked goods, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, a cozy atmosphere, and a new patio this year.
Interlochen is within 8 miles of our cottage, providing travelers with wonderful live musical and theatrical performances.
Interested in attending an authentic drive-in theatre? Make your way to the Cherry Bowl, a short drive away just outside Honor.
Frankfort is a wonderful little town for dining, shopping, and ice cream! It also is home to beautiful beaches on the shore of Lake Michigan.
Another popular destination for our family is Riverside Canoe Trips with canoe and kayak rentals which take you along the beautiful Platte River until it spills out into Lake Michigan.
Last but not least is Traverse City, a 20 minute drive from the Cottage where you can find the State Theatre, with its star ceiling and specially-priced matinees. This city is on Grand Traverse Bay where you can take boating and fishing charters. Traverse City is also home to the National Cherry Festival each year in July. If shopping is more your style, many local shops and specialty stores are to be found, including The Brew, a favorite TC stop for coffee and sandwiches, and The Lost Art knitting store where I have picked up some wonderful yarns.
