This listing includes 1 car designated parking. - This is its own separate unit on the ground level.
Our 2-unit Victorian home was built in 1906. The lower unit is a completely separate 1 bedroom apartment. We’ve done extensive work on the home and land. It is a double sized lot. Half of the land is landscaped with a pond, over 15 varieties of Hawaiian and Polynesian plants and an expansive yard. This is a 2 unit property, we live in 2nd and 3rd level, Halekipa (the guest home) is on the ground floor. This 1 bedroom apartment features Bamboo wood floors, carpet in the bedroom, full-size washer and dryer in unit, updated appliances, queen size bed and pull out couch in living. It can fit 4. There are extra pillows, blankets, sheets and towels for you also. We also have a few things for children (boys and girls sleeping bags and a few games. The home is equipped with High speed WIFI and Cable T.V. (Astound) as well. This property also dubs as the Kaululehua Hawaiian Cultural Center. You’ll notice a dance studio and library on the land as well. Once a week we have classes (dance) and once a month classes on cultural arts/crafts (weaving and lei making). Our home was awarded the Beautification award for South San Francisco in 2011 for the most beautiful Home in South San Francisco!
We are located in downtown South San Francisco (SSF) all restaurants are walking distance (Starbucks, Pete’s, Subway, multiple Chinese and Mexican, Thai, Vietnamese , Korean, Italian, Argentinian, American, Japanese and more). There are a few grocery, liquor and drug stores within a block. Some of our favorite restaurants: For Breakfast – Cable Car Café (nothing fancy, just quick good ole fashioned breakfast), For Lunch - La Morena (best al pastor nachos, tacos and plates), For Dinner - Izanami (great specials, brand new and nice atmosphere. If you’ve never had See’s candy, the factory is down the street you might want to go in for samples ;-)
Everything you could possibly need is within 1 mile (drug stores, department stores, chain restaurants etc..) Most people stay at our place go site seeing. There is 1 car parking designated for our guest. If you don’t drive, the bus is within 1 block, Train (Cal. Train) is 4 blocks, Bart is 10 blocks away. All of these can take you somewhere interesting. Downtown San Francisco is about 15 minutes by car. Besides San Francisco you should make time to explore our coast especially Pacifica and cruise along famous highway 1 to visit downtown Half Moon Bay!

Wonderful experience staying here. The unit was equipped with everything one could possibly need. The hosts even provided a nice bottle of wine and a basket of fruit upon checking in. The location is very walkable to stores, coffee houses and restaurants and I felt safe. The included parking space is a huge asset. I arrived as a tenant and I left as a family member. At the end of a four week holiday in the USA we decided to spend three nights in the San Francisco area. Travelling as a couple this property was ideal for our requirements. Comfortable, clean and well-equipped the home makes an excellent base. It is close to SFO international airport and transport links into the city (we used Caltrain - within walking distance). The dedicated parking space adds to the convenience. South San Francisco itself provides a number of good shops and restaurants (again within walking distance) and felt safe in the daytime and evenings. With a well-equipped kitchen, garden area and parking this is a very cost-effective and convenient alternative to hotel accommodation. Will certainly look to return when next visiting San Francisco.

I stayed for 5 days for a work trip and just slept, showered, and made coffee at the apartment. Everything worked as expected. I really appreciated that there was already coffee, filters, and sugar available so I didn't need to run out and buy anything. The hosts were easy to get in touch with. The Apartment was bright and comfortable and quiet. The neighborhood is very walkable with great restaurants and the train station nearby. My only minor suggestion is that it would've been nice to have an empty chest of drawers to unpack my clothes into during my trip.

We got in at night so did not fully appreciate the beauty and tranquility of the property till the next day - Wow felt like we were home in Hawaii for sure. The unit was just perfect with the most comfortable bed and all the amenities of home right down to washer and dryer.This property is so clean and well maintained! Kawika has so much aloha and made us feel right at home. We stayed only 2 short nights but were able to walk around the neighborhood - we felt so safe and there were many shops, eateries, places of historical significance all just blocks from the property which was really fun to explore. We will be back for sure so we can stay longer. Mahalo for the hospitality and we cant wait to come back!!!!!!

South San Fran Gem

This place is great. The location is excellent. Short walk to Sign Hill, a great morning hike with even better views. Downtown restaurants are just on the other side of the block in front of the house. We walked to get breakfast and lunch several times. Super easy access to 101,280, and the Airport. Just down the road from El Camino Real. Supermarkets and shops are a very short drive away. The yard is very inviting. We had local friends over for a morning brunch and enjoyed it in the garden. Lots of seating options with great shade. This place is also very well stocked. We wanted for nothing. There was even a bottle of wine welcoming us for our stay. Thank you.

A bit of Hawai’i heaven in South San Francisco

When I looked out the windows it reminded me of living in Hawai’i. We totally enjoyed our stay in this hale. It has everything one needs - kitchen, laundry and comfortable bed. Also coffee, spices and pot, pans and utensils needed to cook. Although no need to cook because there are numerous restaurants nearby - Buon Guito and Thai Satay are two restaurants we enjoyed. Kawika responded to our questions quickly - when we were chilly he sent over another heater. It is in a location that makes travel easy to the airport or San Francisco - take BART to The City, then the ferry to Sausalito. We totally enjoyed our stay and want to come back when the weather is warmer to enjoy the beautiful garden He ho’oponomaika’i is ka boho ma keia hale. (It is a blessing to stay in this house.) Small and absolutely NOT HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE - Keep looking

My family and I recently tried to stay at this house. I am in a wheelchair with the ability to walk a little with crutches. This house is absolutely not wheelchair-accessible (since there's a step up, which the owners warned us about) and honestly, not even mildly handicapped-accessible, due to the bathroom and the tiny and inaccessible nature of the apartment (which the owners did NOT warn us about). In the end, we needed to go somewhere else, which we did. In the last three weeks since we tried to stay here, I've tried to contact the owners of the house several times, to no avail. If I were you, I'd avoid this place.

Hawaiian hideaway

We enjoyed our stay in this cozy apartment and appreciated the cold water bottles waiting in the refrigerator and the coffee. The little bowl of snacks and bottle of wine were a nice touch, too, although we didn’t indulge. The gardens are lovely and the place is tucked in by the gardens. The week we stayed there was construction across the street during the weekdays so it was a bit loud at times. We came and went during the day so it didn’t bother us much. One the night there was a metal plate or something on the road that banged loudly every time a car drove over it. We couldn’t get the TV to work, seemed like the cable wasn’t hooked up. Only one night when we wanted to watch TV so not a big deal. The low flush toilet was a bit frustrating but it worked. Found two great places to eat close by for breakfast and Italian dinner. Very convenient and easy to drive to places in San Francisco. The parking spot was heaven as parking can be a challenge around town.

The five star reviews are not legit

This was my first time booking a vacation through vrbo and i regret it. I am not sure how the property can be listed as an A with cleanliness when we found dirty towels, toilet paper missing on day 1 upon arrival, toilet broken down next morning and we couldnt flush it and hours later i get the message it is fixed. The lock wasnt working, my kids were out at 9.30 in th night where the code wasnt workng and the owner didnt even pick our phone or answered our text despite being there ( he answered the helper person but not a tired mom with tired kids in the night). Please dont trust the reviews- they are all made up. The lake has dirty green water, not even circlauting or being changed and the window seal has insects trapped in it. Please make fun memories elsewhere and dont make the mistake I did.

Great weekend spot when visiting San Fran !!!!

Overall a really great experience and wonderful apt and hosts !!!! We were a little concerned about the location as we were going to see shows at Oracle Park and weren’t sure how far out of the “downtown” we were, but it turned out just right !!! We were able To take an Uber or the Cal Train very easily into downtown SF! The neighborhood is so cute and has lots of dining options within walking distance. A “bodega” , a great sandwich shop, liquor store, cafe for breakfast , options for dinner, really covers it all. If you want more elegant dining in the city it’s not too far at all. The apt is terrific. We had 2 adults for a few days and 3 for one night. We were all able to have our own bed ! One in the bedroom which has the picket doors for privacy, one on the sleeper sofa ( which is a bit short. So we put the sleep mat on top and it worked out perfectly ) the other had the air bed which was conveniently stored in the closet. ) We slept comfortably and then deflated the air bed and had plenty of room to eat at the dining table, make coffee, etc. It’s a very well appointed space with really everything you need. Coffee maker , French press, full size fridge, stover. Really awesome. The outside garden is lovely !!! You have full access to the whole space. Sit at the table, or on the love seat w your feet up, enjoy your coffee or cocktails. It was a really nice bonus to have outdoor space to enjoy. Very clean and the hosts were WONDERFUL !

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this property when we first saw it. Because it is located on a double wide lot, we were amazed with the space and all the potential it offered. Over the years, we lovingly worked on landscaping by adding trees, plants, & foliage most of which are native to Hawaii. We continued by adding a pond & waterfall and worked on improving the dwellings including our dance studio located on back of the premises.

What makes this property unique

We love beautiful Victorians because they have so much character and this home was exactly what we were looking for when we made our move to the Peninsula. Our goal was to bring a piece of Hawaii to this land, to grow native plants, and have a place to continue our Cultural work. We love the fact that this area where our home is located is so convenient to shopping, restaurants, shopping malls, theaters, and all the specialty shops we could ever need.
