The open concept living space includes a large living room, furnished in comfortable Western style with leather sofas, easy chairs, interesting art work, including native rugs, a wood-burning fireplace and plenty of firewood and big screen smart TV. This room invites solitary relaxation, conversation, and festive entertaining. Enjoy board games and cards at an oak table in the adjoining sun room. Or, if you must do a little work or want to connect with friends, there is WIFI.
In a separate area, set off by a rustic wooden column and beams with hand carved detail, is a heavy wooden dining table, surrounded with wood and leather chairs, seating eight to ten people friendly in front of a bank of full-length windows. They provide an airy, sun dappled space by day, a romantic vista of twinkling lights by night.
Cooks will love the kitchen with appliances, 5 burner stove, big stainless steel sink, and fabulous views from the large centerpiece window of the Jemez Mountains to the west. Situated so that the cooks can easily interact with family and friends in the living and dining areas, the kitchen also has an unobstructed view to the television for glimpses of a favorite show or movie while preparing dinner. Counter seating provides a perfect spot for chatting with the chef or enjoying an early morning cup of coffee, tea or cocoa.
The cabinets are stocked by people who love cooking with All-Clad, Calphalon and Le Creuset cookware and every small appliance and utensil imaginable. You’ll find plenty of dishes and serving pieces, mugs and bowls and glasses of all types -- including a large stock of stem ware for wine -- and Southwestern-style hammered stainless steel flatware. There is a diverse selection of cookbooks to inspire you, complete with high-altitude cooking tips.
A bright sun room features French doors that open to a redwood deck with native latillas above. There you’ll be drawn to watch splendid evening sunsets or enjoy a meal al fresco at a wrought iron table in a beautiful landscaped garden area a few steps away on a flagstone patio. Beyond the patio, a path leads to a private hot tub and deck with another table and chairs. Beyond that deck, take a hike up the hill on the path to look out to the mountains. Have a drink, a little something to eat, relax and enjoy the view to the open sky and the surrounding hills and trees. Through french doors off the dining room step onto a charming stone patio with a hand set stone wall, beautifully landscaped for a peaceful morning retreat or quiet evening with gentle lighting under a starry sky.

It is furnished with twin beds that can be converted into a comfortable King bed using the same system found at many spas, including Canyon Ranch. The room features a ceiling fan, large windows and ample closet space. The bath which is accessed through the hall and not the bedroom, has a tub and a shower.
A few steps down from the main level is the private master suite with a King bed. A Mexican armoire holds a television. Two traditional Havana rockers with hand caning set off the room. The vanity has two sinks, ample drawer space and an expansive mirror.
Upstairs are two additional bedrooms which share a charming bathroom with wrought iron details, a Mexican tin mirror and Talavera tiling. These bedrooms have ceiling fans and are also served by an evaporative cooling system (air conditioning common in Southwest dry conditions) which effectively cools the house. Each upstairs bedroom has French doors through which to step out onto a large deck, a perfect place for sunning, watching evening sunsets or enjoying the antics of hummingbirds vying for nectar from the feeders and numerous bird species providing entertainment for all ages.

The perfect place for the Hansen family to relax, unwind and enjoy Santa Fe. My husband and I were
very familiar with the Santa Fe area as he graduated with his Masters from the University of New Mexico and we spent many weekends in Santa Fe, but that was 35 years ago. We were looking for a place where our family (our two sons, wives and grandchildren could go and be away from the city a bit, have enough space to be able to get away from each other if needed and have a beautifully set up kitchen so that we could cook some of our evening meals in.
From the pictures, I expected a very nice home, but was not prepared for the the way the home was set up for visitors...there were extras of everything, spices, etc. extra towels, beach towels and even shampoo, etc. in each bathroom. We so enjoyed the outdoor spaces which are numerous and all give you a different view of either the mountains or the home...my favorite was the small patio off the dining room where I enjoyed coffee in the morning. The kids loved the big front patio and spent lots of time out there playing with their toys and outdoor games. We will definitely keep this place in mind as our family grows and we need to get away especially in the summer months when the Texas summer heat is so brutal. The mornings of 60 degrees were heaven! Oh yes, the hummingbirds. We have them at our home, but they don't normally come in as frequently as they did at the house once we got the feeders set up...they were fun for everyone to watch in the mornings and the evenings.
We enjoyed a memorable family reunion at this warm and comfortable home. We had 4 adults and 3 children ( aged 8-10) staying at the house, plus my nephew and his son who live in Santa Fe, joined us for meals, play time and sightseeing.
The house is perfectly set up, with the main level being a very large great room. The photos do not do it justice! The kitchen is a dream and it was so nice to have it stocked with spices and condiments. The long dining table accommodated all of us. The kids loved having a fireplace and insisted on a fire each night.(How nice to have a stock of firewood left for us). They were thrilled to be able to explore the trails behind the house and play King of the Mountain. They had plenty of room to run off extra energy. The adults loved all of the outdoor spaces to sit and relax and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. The bedrooms are good sized and nicely arranged with comfortable beds and lovely bedding. The home is beautifully decorated, with attention to detail, yet not so "done up" that you are afraid to live in it. There was plenty of room for 3 cars to park, under cover. Our only regret was that we didn't have more time to spend at the house. It is very conveniently located and if you can, fly into the adorable, quaint Santa Fe airport! We wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else when we return to Santa Fe.
Land of Enchantment Hideaway
Our family and friends could not believe the beauty of this getaway! The sunsets were magnificent; in fact, we were awed by the "Cow in a Cloud" sunset one evening. Hummingbirds zinged around, and the fountain sang outside our master bedroom. Every room was stocked with the best of everything. Linens are soft, twinkle lights on the deck add ambiance and the cool nights are a relief. Having lived in Santa Fe, we can say, without a doubt, that this destination is 5 STAR!!!
Nicely appointed room located close to attractions
This home is well appointed, with beautiful living spaces to gather or be alone. All four bedrooms are quite comfortable, and none of us had to sleep on a twin bed - that was important to us. Three restrooms were ample for eight of us, and we had everything we needed in all living spaces (kitchen has some appliances I would love to have at home). Be advised, there is no central air in this house. The coolers available up and downstairs were ample to keep the house cool during the mid-eighty days we experienced in June, but I recommend you open all windows and doors at night to allow the cool mountain air into the home. We did nightly, and the coolers did not have to work as hard to keep the house cool during the day.
Our group of eight adults spent most of our time outdoors on the patio, which was actually the largest outdoor space. Several chairs and an ample table allowed us all to gorge on Pico de Gallo and chips as well as a cool beverage each evening. We cooked primarily on the outdoor grill, but the kitchen - with its breathtaking view of the mountains - provides a very nice stove and oven as well. We ate either at the large dining room table or outside on the patio. We did take advantage of the hot tub one evening while there, and it was quite invigorating after a long day hiking Bandelier National Monument.
For those not familiar with this location, the house is within minutes of the Plaza, several casinos, and only an hour from Bandelier, all of which you should not miss. Get a good map of Santa Fe, and plan to park in one of the many parking garages near the Plaza. Walking the Plaza is mild for most, and there are lots of shady places to sit and people watch if you get tired.
While the Plaza is south of this beautiful home, Bandelier and the casinos are north. Our casino of choice - Buffalo Thunder - is less than a 15 minute drive from the house. We discovered it on our way to Bandelier, and returned for a couple of hours of fun. The group won more than they lost at this casino, while we were not so lucky at others. Don't waste your money in the casino bar and grill; take the opportunity to eat at really good restaurants either on the Plaza, or a local favorite such as the Pantry Restaurant (1820 Cerrillos Rd). Yum!
If you are on the fence about this home, I encourage you to take a chance. The caretaker is responsive to your needs, and the home is comfortable and well situated to many unique places to visit near Santa Fe.
Everything you could want...and more!
Four couples from different parts of the country rented this property and it was fabulous! The kitchen is well stocked (spices, condiments, all the cooking and baking items you'd need), the beds are very comfortable, the linens are thick, there is lots of hot water for showers, the furniture seated all 8 comfortably (including the dining room and the front deck tables), the art work was obviously chosen with care (and flair!), the flower pots were lovely, and the hot tub was a welcome sight at the end of a day of site-seeing. The house is private yet very convenient to Tesuque and to Santa Fe. It sits on a hill with great sunset views, and the stars at night were magnificent. Owners are great to work with, they even sent a packet of recommendations for our planning ahead of time. We have already recommended the property to others and would not hesitate to return! This house is beautiful!
The Perfect House for a Stay in Santa Fe
Our family of 8 representing 3 generations stayed at Casa de Cielo y Sol over the Christmas holiday this year. It's a perfect location, private and quiet in a peaceful and scenic setting but only a few minutes form the hart of Santa Fe. The house couldn't be more welcoming, clean, comfortable, well-stocked and beautifully decorated. The kitchen is amazing - definitely designed by someone who enjoys cooking. We made a number of wonderful meals in the incredibly well appointed kitchen with lovely views. We didn't lack for anything.
I would love to stay here again if the opportunity arises and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Santa Fe. I'm originally from Santa Fe and can say without hesitation that this house represents the best of what homes in Santa Fe have to offer both inside and out. The owners were great to work with and super responsive to any questions we had.
The house and property are situated in an expansive and stunning natural environment perfect for enjoying the outdoors at all levels of activity, from vigorous and challenging to quiet walking and observing. Hiking on the property and nearby trails is a favorite activity of guests. The house and grounds offer privacy, comfort and relaxation. Bird watching, perfect for all ages, is a special treat and can provide hours of entertainment. Venture out for the Opera, close by, and to the road to the Ski Basin, just a very short drive for a beautiful outdoor adventure all seasons of the year. Just north of the house are destinations most visitors to Santa Fe never see: galleries, a sculpture garden and foundry, a glass blowing studio and a Southwestern cafe and market, a favorite of the locals. And just south of the house, the historic Plaza is just a quick and direct drive (no turns).
