Overall the cabin was in a nice location about an hour from Acadia National Park. It was decently appointed. Short walk to lake. Couple of issues.
The king size bed in the master was cupped in middle causing the occupants to roll toward the center. Rather uncomfortable.
There is a very nice washer and dryer in the lower level. The listing does not mention the stairs to laundry the agility required to transverse the spiral stairs to get down there. The ceiling in the basement is less than 6 feet high. Being 6'8" tall this was a problem for me. A normal size person may not have noticed but a taller person should keep this in mind.
Lastly, no WIFI and no TV on main level. TV on second level didn't work. Not a real problem for us but worth mentioning for others.
Convenient enough to Acadia, quiet, and idyllic
My three kids and I were looking for a quaint, cozy place to stay for our first Acadia vacation. We really enjoyed this log cabin, which had all the "comforts" of home but gives you that sense of "roughing it." We took advantage of the available kayaks and fire pit outside, and found the kitchen to be effective for meal prep.
A couple minor things to note... We didn't realize this cabin lay within just a hundred or so feet of another home -- so the solitude we'd expected wasn't quite that. We didn't have any issues with the people staying there, though (it appears to be a rental as well). The listing mentions a canoe, but we could see only kayaks - not a big deal at all, since we enjoy both.
Judy was a great host, making us feel welcome and providing bright and cheery service. Check-in time had to be delayed since the home wasn't ready, but she apologized and graciously offered to give us more time for check-out if needed.
The home is 15 minutes from the nearest town with a wide array of services (Ellsworth), not bad. We knew it was a good 40-50 minutes from Acadia/Bar Harbor, but it's a very affordable alternative. And the pond (it's really more like a lake) is gorgeous to explore. We highly recommend this great place!
Perfect Location for a Maine Vacation
The cabin was a perfect location for a Maine vacation, close to Acadia and Bar Harbor as well as other areas of interest. Goose pond was beautiful and just a short walk down the path to access the dock. Plenty of firewood made for a pleasant way to end each evening.
Cabin beautiful near Acadia
We really enjoyed the cabin. The Beautiful lake right behind the place was wonderful for kayaking, watching the loons and seeing the sunset. About 40 minutes from Acadia. We appreciated the screen house use when we went to Sand Beach in Acadia. This was close to Bar Harbor and Acadia. No more than 45 minutes or so and the drive was interesting and there are plenty of grocery stores, gas stations, and other stores to stock up or replenish supplies.
We went on a whale watch tour and bough non-drowsy dramamine at Wal-Mart before the sail. That precluded us from joining half of the ship's passengers who were passed out from Dramamine. The seas were a little bit rough.
Everything about the area was pretty amazing. We speng a day on Schoodic Peninsula. Very nice trails and views without the crowds. We appreciated the trail guide in the cabin - but we lamented that someone had tore out some of the pages for some trails we did. But all in all, the guide was quite useful.
We hope to revisit the area sometime. :-)
an absolute treat
This delightful place felt remote but was, in fact, quite accessible and conveniently located: less than 20 miles from Bangor and only about 30 miles to Bar Harbor//Acadia National Park. But we only had to go down the short footpath to enjoy the pristine and restful Goose Pond.
The kitchen was stocked with all the tools, bowls, pots, and pans one could conceivably need — right down to the corn-on-the-cob skewer picks. The owner was quite cordial and proactive and made us feel very welcome.
All in all, we were fortunate to have found this spot and we would happily return.
Wonderful place to stay!
Stayed at the cabin with a few friends for a weekend in Maine. The location was lovely and super easy for us to go to Acadia to hike. The lake is beautiful and we enjoyed the kayaks and seeing the Loons! Overall fantastic spot that I would like to visit again!
