Intriguing architecture adds much to the allure of this amazing place that comfortably accommodates from two, to four (possibly five) guests. SierraScape is beautifully furnished with an eclectic mix of comfort and style, has a FULLY-equipped kitchen with EVERY convenience, spacious, beautifully done bedrooms as well as the most incredible outdoor patio ever, with full-size sunken spa.

SierraScape’s living room has beautiful Oak flooring, high, open-beam ceilings and includes a leather loveseat and several comfortable chairs, the incredible stone fireplace (firewood provided), Stereo system w/iPod port, Flat-Screen TV w/DVD/VCR and extensive satellite programming, including HBO. We also provide DVR here for the convenient recording of your favorite sports events and other TV programs. There is an abundance of board games, an interesting collection of books and novels as well as direct access out the French doors, leading directly out to the back deck area, creek and SPA.

This room sits adjacent to the sunny dining area and just beyond that, the arched entrance leads you into the well-stocked, fully-equipped kitchen with modern appliances, Granite countertops, new gas stove, refrigerator, stainless sink with professionally maintained purified RO drinking water, dishwasher, microwave, multiple windows and a BEAUTIFUL view...

The large, Main Bedroom is located on the second level and has open-beam, cathedral ceilings & skylight, a Queen bed, reading corner, a vanity/sink and a side door that opens onto its own private deck, leading down to the Spa.

The Room With a View is located on the third level, at the end of the catwalk which overlooks the first floor and has high, open-beam ceilings, a King-size bed, beautiful view and French doors that lead out onto a private balcony, overlooking the creek. The upstairs, half-bath is also located along the catwalk, just steps away from The Room With a View.

Both bedrooms are beautifully outfitted with both modern & antique furniture as well as comfortable, high-quality beds. Each room has a ceiling fan and its own A/C unit, a sitting/reading area and writing desk, adding to the comfort and solitude of each individual space.

Located on the first floor is the unique, full bathroom with an open, 6' tile shower (it's terrific for two!) which has dual shower heads, multiple windows and private, distant views. It also has a large soaking tub, a real treat. Conveniently, this main bathroom is accessible from common living space as is the half-bath upstairs so no traipsing through someone else's bedroom on your way to the loo ;-).


You’ll find the incredible, multi-level Sunny Garden Deck that is absolutely, positively fantastic. This area overlooks the boulder filled ITALIAN CREEK and surrounding hills and leads past the spa, up to the garden gate that leads you down a short path, right to the creek. The creek is SEASONAL however there is typically water running 7-9 months of the year (usually winter to early summer) and small pools amongst the rocks year-round.

'Much as we enjoyed meeting Kirsty and benefited from her and Jerry being so readily available, we were deeply appreciative of the owners not living right here, on the property with us as the complete and TOTAL privacy we were after was therefore never compromised...our solitude was complete'

The full-size Spa is transcendent, it is TOTALLY private & sunken so is easy to get in and out of, EXCEPTIONALLY well-kept, available ALL year long and is incredibly inviting... While just 10 or so steps from the living room door, this Hot Tub is unreal, decadently perched over the creek and under the wide-open, star-studded sky.

A plethora of outdoor furniture, a vine covered trellis, full feeders that attract a wide variety of birds, a clean Gas Grill and an abundance of flowering pots and native plants that surround you.

"Regardless of how stressed one may be, if they cannot get their mind in a better place sitting out on your deck and listening to nature, they need professional help."


Why stay in Mariposa as opposed to 'IN' the park?? Check the LOCATION 'in Yosemite'! Fish Camp and Wawona require nearly the same travel time to Yosemite Valley as does Mariposa but Hwy 140 from Mariposa allows for faster travel year-round (it's 25-35 mph. 'inside' Yosemite, not so on Hwy 140), and FAR safer travel in the winter months (this Hwy being the ONLY 'All-Weather' highway, remaining open during all four seasons). PRIVACY is another reason, 'in Yosemite' also tends to mean 'in a development', check on NEIGHBOR PROXIMITY, expected NOISE levels and PARKING access, our Mariposa places are all PRIVATE, secluded, QUIET and have plenty of convenient parking. ACCESS TO TOWN, make sure you won't be wanting the convenience of being five to ten minutes from all that our quaint, historic town has to offer if you do decide to stay 'inside Yosemite', and be prepared to plan accordingly... access to town from SierraScape is a snap! And finally, COST... We simply offer more, for less ;-).

SierraScape sits well off Hwy 49 just nine miles south of the town of Mariposa and is ideally located between two different entrances to Yosemite National Park. These two entrance routes (via HWY 41 or HWY 140) offer myriad activities and attractions along the way to the park.

HWY 140, the only “all weather highway”, winds through the Scenic Merced River Canyon and takes you directly into Yosemite Valley, through the “Arch Rock” entrance. The Merced River Rec Area at Briceburg is just a 14 mile drive & has small, private sandy beaches just perfect for picnics, wading, and summertime swimming. The river is also great for fishing & hiking and for the even more adventurous, white-water rafting.

Traveling in the other direction, up HWY 41 outside of Oakhurst will lead you to the south entrance into Yosemite where you’ll find the world famous Mariposa Grove’s GIANT SEQUOIAS, GLACIER POINT, BADGER PASS SKI Area and of course beautiful BASS LAKE with its water sports, beaches and restaurants. In addition, there are some fantastic hiking trails, many that welcome dogs, and the historic Sugar Pine Railroad, really fun!

About Kirsty

Me, standing over the incredible creek, Jan., 2017

Jerry and I (Kirsty) are both semi-retired professionals and consider ourselves extremely fortunate to live so close to Yosemite. We are local, managing owners who live a convenient 10 miles away from this home (we do not reside 'on-site' at either of our Mariposa vacation rental properties, rest assured your stay with us will remain private). We have over 45 combined years living in the Yosemite area and are nearly always available for assistance without EVER being underfoot or intrusive.

**OF PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE** This home's driveway, unlike MANY in our rural mountain area, is accessed right off a quiet, PAVED country road, something to seriously consider when choosing a vacation rental as you'll likely be making the trip many times... you won't have to navigate miles of steep, rough, un-paved, muddy/dusty or rutted dirt roads to reach this vacation rental and the long, gravel driveway allows for virtually any car, in any weather to easily access the property.

Why Kirsty chose Mariposa

In 2002, we were left to decide which of our two homes we would live in. It was a difficult decision but we decided to stay where we are now and rather than lose our ability to continue enjoying all of the luxuries of SierraScape (by renting it out full-time, selling was NEVER a consideration as Jerry built it), we thought we'd instead try offering The Scape to vacationers who were looking for an exceptional, discreet and distinguished place to stay, near Yosemite National Park but who also desired to be well away from the crowds once they'd been there..........We are happy and humbled to say that SierraScape has been a HUGE hit as a vacation rental and in the fifteen years since its inception has become one of the most popular and sought after places in the Yosemite area. As a result, the home is often filled with return guests as they continue to come back, year after year, often alternating seasons so as to experience it anew each time they arrive.

What makes this house unique

Although a short distance from Yosemite itself, staying at SierraScape (or our other home, The Vineyard House) provides visitors a combined element of peace, privacy and affordability that accommodations inside the park cannot........ If you’re looking to be conveniently close to Yosemite but would prefer to not spend your vacation placed in an over-crowded development or conventional hotel then we may have JUST what you’re looking for!

Some of the totally unique benefits of staying at SierraScape are, well, the creek, for starters, the sight and sounds of it are incredible.

There's the custom, awesome architecture, especially the catwalk that looks down over the main level, and then there's the shower ;-)... It's really big and shares its space with the soaking tub so you can combine a shower and bath, together if you like, all the while enjoying the wilderness, right out the knee-height windows. Talk about unique...........

I know of nowhere else in this area that has anything comparable to The Scape's decadent, lush, blossoming and sunny (some shade) Garden Deck where you'll find your very own, private, full-size Spa, overlooking that mountain creek. SierraScape is favored by the elite, and privacy seeking folks for that very reason, no one knows it's there and the absolute privacy is extraordinary.

Can't neglect mentioning the beautiful stone fireplace that was built from rocks out of the creek, or the firewood we provide. There are also tasteful, comfortable and contemporary furnishings as well as a Non-Toxic, unscented earth-friendly environment and our guests consistently comment on all the 'special touches' we've thought of, throughout the house and grounds........

Gold panning in the creek is fun, too and there's more but we don't want to give it ALL away, so please, come and find out for yourself...

After leaving the hustle and bustle of the city life in San Francisco, we were looking forward to a little relaxation! We found our haven at SierraScape! Everything is so well thought out by Kirsty and her husband! Just when you think you have a question, it's answered in a well placed placard or in the comprehensive binder. They even have readers set perfectly about for those of us who need them! Amazing, tranquility! Our teenagers even had a blast in the spa! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Paradise in Mariposa

This rental was just amazing. It had everything we needed - plus. There were personal touches throughout the house including a small vase of wild flowers with a welcome note plus a bottle of the local wine. The ambience was everything we could ask for. Our relations from England thought they had died and gone to heaven. The beds were comfortable, the hot tub was very welcome after a day of seeing the sights of Yosemite. To use a much used cliche, it was home from home, and we thank Kirsty & Jerry for their care and attention to detail. You made our visit very special.

Better than perfect

From the moment we pulled into the driveway to the sad time of having to leave, we felt at home in the perfect surroundings for us.

The owners, Kirsty and Jerry, have created a magical, thoughtfully laid out, well equipped and welcoming haven. Everywhere you look, there are little whimsical and pleasant touches, each obviously personally selected and placed. Not kitschy knickknackery, but true signs of the thoughtful consideration, and desire to showcase this wonderful place to their guests.

The house is laid out well, in a custom arrangement that just flows. We used the inside and outside spaces equally , and had the most wonderful relaxing stay, with everything geared towards comfort and enjoyment.

We were lucky enough to have a whole week there, and I think the fact that we only left the property once, to explore Yosemite, speaks volumes to its appeal and attractiveness.

We miss the birds, the creek, the decks, fireplace, spa, stars,comfy couch and beds, the outdoor view from the shower, just everything about SierraScape.

We have started plotting our return at a future time already, and it will truly be like coming home when we can manage it.

Thanks to Kirsty and Jerry, who were awesome hosts, and added their own personal care and touch to an already picture perfect stay.

Amazing cabin and property close to Yosemite! A+++

Thanks again for the hospitality! We really enjoyed the bottle of local wine you left for us and all of the thoughtful touches. All of the helpful information made our stay even more enjoyable. We liked reading through the hiking guides before heading out to Yosemite and were thoroughly relaxed from beginning to end. The creek was incredible, the spa was fantastic and we enjoyed a cozy night in front of the fireplace. The views were breathtaking and the weather could not have been better.

We would definitely love to come visit again some time!
