Owner's Response: What a wonderful example of such a classy and thoughtful group of people!!! Under the worst possible circumstances, Hurricane Nate approaching, having to shorten their stay and flee from the city, they took the time and effort to leave such a glowing review. There are still a lot of wonderful people in the world, we just need to see them out and befriend them. QUICK!!!

Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We all enjoyed the stay, were there to celebrate a special birthday, five adults, it's a real feeling of New Orleans history.

David couldn't have been more accommodating and so many amenities were provided. We highly recommend this location, close to the French Quarter, as well as walking distance to little markets for those snacks and forgotten items as well as a few restaurants for the quick or late night meal, close to home base.

Old, clean, no smoke detectors

  • 3 of 5

The home was clean when we arrived. Very odd method to lock and unlock the bared front and rear entry. Quiet neighborhood, fairly easy walk to French quarter.

Overall an enjoyable stay.

Owner's Response: There is an electronic combination lock on both doors, which allows the guest to let themselves in as soon as they arrive. No depending on someone to meet them there. No one has ever mentioned that was ‘strange’ in 10 years. There are 8 smoke detectors and 4 fire extinguishers in the house, and all operate perfectly. The only thing I can see is the two in the hallway are on each end, and the PLACE WHERE THE one in the middle GOES, just hAS WIREs hanging from the ceiling. A NEST smoke detector is going there, to work with the two NEST thermostats in the house. Perhaps the person thought that was WHERE a smoke detector goes, but there was none there. The house is OLD. Its a FRENCH Quarter House from the 1800s, like every other house in one of the oldest cities in the United States. That is the reason most people visit. For the charm and antiquity of the entire area. Strange that anyone would leave a comment that the house is OLD. The city is OLD. It DOES has every modern convenience, including 3 kinds of coffee makers for espresso, Keurig, and a kitchen id coffee pot. All Italian loomed linens including Pratesi, Frette, and Sferra brothers, These range in over the $1000 price range. There are 3 HUGE 65’. LED TV sets, and 5 40” TV sets. Computers, and printers in the front and back houses, and the list goes on. This is someone trying very hard to find anything wrong with their visit. I am sorry they did not enjoy themselves. Certainly contradicts the other 22 5 Star reviews.

Blair House Made Our Trip!

  • 5 of 5

We made our first trip to NOLA & are so fortunate we found & booked Blair House. My wife & I decided to book a visit to New Orleans with our two grown children & their significant others. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. Lyft drivers easily got us to & from the airport. Blair House is very roomy & extremely well appointed. Washer, dryer, dishwasher, fridge, stove, coffee makers, TV’s, etc... all the comforts of home... in both the main & the guest house... Between the guest house & the main house, each couple had their own bedroom & bathroom. The large kitchen in the main house was a great gathering place for meals when not eating out. The large living room was perfect for all of us to catch at bit of the olympics when not out discovering. Speaking of which, the location was perfect for walking to all the must-see spots in New Orleans. Interestingly, we took a guided bike tour one day & they stopped right in front of Blair House to talk about the beautiful Creole cottages & shotgun houses in the Marigny district. We absolutely loved our stay in Blair House. Did I mention the front porch is the perfect place to chill between activities? It just could not have worked out better. The owner, David Blair, was super helpful during the booking process. It was easy & convenient & David provided us with a ton of information on NOLA & things to do & see. His recommendations were absolutely spot on. His beautiful home & great recommendations really helped make this a family trip to remember. Coming from Canada, who knew weather could be so nice in February. Anyway, we had a fabulous trip & would highly recommend Blair House to anyone considering a trip to the Crescent City. Thanks David!

Great location and owner

  • 5 of 5

I travel to New Orleans frequently and every time I rent a VRBO in the same neighborhood. This trip was to celebrate my daughter's 21st and my mother's 74th birthdays. This is a perfect location and David's house was one of the best. No matter which way you walk once out of the house, you have a host of choices: Buffa's, Ruby Slipper or Horn's for breakfast, quick walk to Frenchmen St, great neighborhood bars and restaurants, easy access to the FQ- all within walking distance. Sit on the wonderful front porch and watch the horse carriages roll by. Beautifully appointed home and David was very responsive to any inquiry. Four adults stayed in the house and back house very comfortably.

Map

Car: not necessary

All French quarter activities are within short walking distances. Bourbon st, Jackson square, restaurants, also Frenchman street and all jazz clubs and fabulous eateries.

1830 Burgundy Street becomes the 'actual' 13 block French Quarter, literally 2 short blocks or 3 minutes walk. It's in the 'Marigny Triangle'. The most desired living location In and around the French Quarter. It has VERY RARE off street secure parking behind an electric gate for 2 cars, with side entrance from the driveway into the hall of the house..

1830 Burgundy Street, is right on the edge of the French Quarter, two blocks from Bourbon Street in 'The Faubourg Marigny' (FAW-borg MER-ih-nee), or usually just Marigny. It's a hip neighborhood just 'below' the French Quarter. Blair House has been the temporary home to actors, celebrities and their families, while working on movie projects in New Orleans. It's a short walk to the Cafe du Monde for hot beignets and Creole Cafe au lait. You watch the activity at Jackson Square while savoring your coffee.

The Marigny has the air of what the French Quarter was a generation or two ago before there was so much tourist development. It has a few small hotels and many bed-and-breakfasts, as well as a number of good restaurants, coffee shops, and music venues. Part of the city's old high ground, it fortunately escaped the worst of the post-Katrina disaster.

Architecturally, the Marigny is known for its many styles of Creole cottages, most of which date to the 19th century. Its 'heart' is Washington Square Park (bounded Frenchmen Street, Royal Street, Dauphine Street, and Elysian Fields Avenue). Frenchmen Street is the main nightlife district, with half a dozen live music clubs and just as many restaurants in four short blocks.

Due to its odd shape (following a bend in the Mississippi River), locals often call the area, the 'Marigny triangle.'

Known for its bohemian atmosphere, the Marigny is home to many artists and musicians. Among its notable residents are chef Paul Prudhomme, painter James Michalopoulas, and actors Harry Shearer and Jennifer Coolidge, who can be seen around town when they're not working in L.A. Local writers include New Orleans mystery writers Julie Smith and J.M. Redmann, as well as Andrei Codrescu, Michael Swindle, and Kevin Allman.
