4 bedroom, 3 1/2 bath house, 3 minutes from the beach
About Monica Opoulos
We have been living on the Isle of Palms for 9 years. We have a 8 year old son and a 5 year old daughter. We spend our summers traveling, surfing, swimming, dining with friends, and simply relaxing. My husband grew up in California, and I grew up in North Carolina. We are ecstatic to call IOP our home and cannot imagine a better place in the world to live. This is our full time residence, and we love sharing our home when we traveling. We always make room in our closets and in the kitchen, but our belongings are here while we rent.
Monica Opoulos purchased this House in 2008
Why Monica Opoulos chose Isle of Palms
Our house is unique in that it is modern, open, and really has the possibility of indoor/outdoor living. We spend our days on our porch outside the kitchen with kids running around in the backyard and jumping on the trampoline. We go on bike rides on the beach almost daily. The easy access to the marina is always a fun treat for ice cream or having a drink on the water. Our house feels so secluded in the middle of summer when all the trees, bushes, and flowers are blooming. We often say it feels like we are living in a tree house.
What makes this House unique
We built our house with the idea of just meandering around to different areas of the house for eating, drinking, game playing, and relaxing. It becomes difficult to get out of the swinging mattress on the back porch with a cocktail in hand and the ocean breeze. As warm as it gets in Charleston, our house is so high that you feel the breeze on the back porch. It just creates an atmosphere that you really never want to leave, but always have the option of everything you would ever need at your fingertips.

Beautiful house and wonderful experience!
We had a great time in our week at the house. It was big enough to fit 7 adults and three kids easily. The house seemingly had everything you could possibly want for a stay at the beach - beach chairs, beach toys, a golf cart for making the short drive to and fro, an outdoor shower for rinsing off. It also had lots of indoor and outdoor spaces to gather, relax, and eat. The rooms are huge - the smallest guest bedroom was still pretty large. The adults and kids both made use of the many amenities the house comes with - the large, well-equipped kitchen, trampoline, karaoke machine, ping pong table, Sonos multi-room music system, Wii, Apple TV. The homeowners were very polite and inviting. Couldn't ask for anything more! Would recommend highly and stay here again.
Thank you so much!
We are so happy you enjoyed your stay! It was a pleasure meeting you, and we would love to host your group again if you decided to return to the Isle of Palms....
Spacious and very comfortable. Easy beach access. Accommodating owners.
Absolutely lives up to online description and pictures. Would rent this property again.
Pros and Cons
This is a gorgeous house with lots of room to spread out. There was only one TV, however. The golf cart and bikes were great. As were the trampoline, basketball goal and ping pong table. The cons: it is a distance from the beach. There is a cat that stays there while guests are there and is in and out a lot of the time. I felt like I was cat-sitting, which was odd on vacation. It's food, water and litter box are all inside. Also, a lot of the owners belongings stay there which makes it feel like you are staying at someone's house while they are away versus in a vacation home. The kids room is only usable for kids 6 years old and below. We would not stay there again mainly because of the cat. But if the cons don't bother you, than you would love it.
We are always so pleased to find families who enjoy our home. Thank you so much for your review, and I would like to address the cons for future interested renters… I hope our site explains the features of the house, and we have not mislead you in any way.
We are roughly a 1-2 minute golf cart ride to the beach. Once you are at the beach access, you have to walk to the beach which is about another 1-2 minutes. All the accesses are the same distance from the road, and you would find this anywhere on the island unless you were staying directly on the beach with your own access.
We have one 60 inch TV downstairs which has Direct cable, Apple TV, and a DVD player. The kids' wing does have a second TV which has a WII, so it also has access to Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Our cat has since passed away, and we presently have no pets.
Our house is our full time residence, so there will be our belongings here during your stay. I always empty the refrigerators and leave plenty of pantry space for our guests. I make sure there is closet space in every room, and hangers in every closet.
Our children are 5 and 8. We do have a basketball goal, ping pong table, WII, and trampoline. My daughter's beds are from Ikea, so they are a tad smaller than a twin bed. My son's bed is a queen sized bed. I hope children of all ages would enjoy our house, although the inside toys we have are geared more towards the age of our children.
I would like to end with a letter left by the next renter.
"Dear Monica and Alex- I don't remember a time when a physical space both moved and changed me like your home. To say that our family enjoyed our time there feels trite yet I cannot come up with adequate words. Your hospitality and generosity were felt in every last detail and as someone who values these character traits deeply, I felt them to my core. Thank you, thank you for the gift that you shared with each of us. Our days there left a mark that no time will ever erase. With gratitude"

Beautiful and Relaxing
My family and I spent a week in this charming home and we loved every minute of it. It was our first time in South Carolina and I'm so glad we chose this house even though when I booked it, I was worried it was too far from the beach and didn't have a pool (which were 2 things I wanted). None of those things mattered once we arrived. It's not too far from the water, an easy walk or golf car ride away and the home is well taken care of, clean, beautifully decorated and full of relaxing places to lounge and unwind. We spent more time on the back porch than we did at the beach, just enjoying the sounds of the birds and watching the clouds roll by. The golf cart was very handy for hauling the family to town for lunch or ice cream and my 4 year old son LOVED all the toys! After our week at this house, we spent another week on Isle of Palms at a house that was on the ocean and I have to say that I would definitely choose this house over the second one. Although the second home was very nice and conveniently located (and it had the pool we wanted), it just didn't have the same charm and we all wished we had booked 2 weeks at the this first home. If I ever go back to IOP (and we plan to because it was beautiful), this is the home I will book.
We are about a 3 minute walk to the beach. You also would have access to our golf cart and bikes to make the beach trip even quicker! The marina is a 5 minute golf cart ride or bike ride which offers water activities, as well as a small grocery store, and cafe. Morgan Creek Grille is a waterfront restaurant which boasts of fine dining downstairs as well as a more casual rooftop menu. There are many restaurant options on Front Beach which is about 5 minutes away. Tratoria de Lucca, which is infamous downtown as amazing Italian, has just opened a new restaurant on the Isle of Palms as well. There is everything from reggae on the rooftop at Coconut Joe's to pizza and walk up ice cream stands. There are plenty of surf shops to grab last minute items you may need for your beach stay.
There are tons of things to do with the children in our area. We have a 15 ft. circular enclosed trampoline in the backyard. We have 2 outdoor fire pits. We are 3 blocks away from the Isle of Palms Recreational Center that has tennis courts, basketball courts, and a huge playground.
We are about 10 minutes to Sullivans Island which has many restaurants and bars as well as another park and beautiful beach. Sullivans Island has many outdoor/patio dining options including anything from fish tacos and a beer, to the best local fish and a spectacular bottle of wine.
Wild Dunes Golf and Resort is just minutes away and has 2 golf courses, the Harbor Course and the Links course. The views are spectacular while enjoying a round of golf just minutes away.
We are tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, but historic, downtown Charleston is about a 20-25 minute drive. Downtown Charleston truly speaks for itself. There are some of the best restaurants in the world in the heart of Charleston. Shopping on King Street is always delightful and bustling with families. There are many historic Churches, carriage ride tours, ghost walk tours, and rickshaw tours. We have been voted as the best city to live in the United States by Conde Naste, and we have to agree that this little city has about everything anyone would need to have a perfect vacation.
