About Steve powell
Great memories should be shared! Steve and Joy Powell believe that children are the future and nothing is more important than giving children a solid foundation and making memories that last a lifetime. It is their vision to give others a beautiful relaxed setting to make memories with those they care about.
Steve powell purchased this Lodge in 2010
Why Steve powell chose Mars Hill
We experience 4 seasons that offer an array of activities all year round. Guest will be in close proximity to skiing, golfing, rafting, tubing, zip-lines, National Forest, orchards, horseback riding, The Biltmore Estate, Western NC Nature Center, Dollywood, Gray Fossil Museum, Christmas tree farms, natural hot springs, gem mining as well as every luxury a city offers; shopping, dining, theaters. The lodges are well planned to allow privacy and safety. There is plenty of driveway parking and there are no steep drops or stilts like most mountain cabins.
What makes this Lodge unique
The owners, Steve and Joy Powell, live on Memory Mountain and offer tours of their farm to interested guest, however appointments must be made in advance. Their farm features rabbits, range chickens, pheasants, quail, egg gathering, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, apple/peach/pear trees. Their Antique Museum has the largest arrowhead collection in the Southeast. You may view depression glass, farm equipment and neat historical mountain finds. Arrowhead hunts may also be coordinated with your scheduled visit. The lodges feature many unique charms such as wormy chestnut logs and wood, arrowheads found on the grounds, nooks for children to explore, private outdoor fire pits and plenty of gathering space indoors and out. A great deal of time has been spent collecting local reclaimed wood to build Memory Mountains' cabins and it shows.

Oct 10-13 2019 group trip
Beautiful home full of character. The kids had an amazing time fishing in all 4 ponds. Owners were so welcoming and warm. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will be back!
Great spot for large group
Everything was as described on the listing. Steve was super helpful and stopped by a couple of times during our stay to introduce himself and offer any help should we need it. I didn't feel like he was too nosey, more just wanted to make sure we knew that he was there if we needed anything. Overall, it was a great, large space for us and everyone had a place to sleep which was great!
We absolutely loved the cabin and our stay here. The kids loved the fishing holes, and the oldest one spent a lot of time outside catching fish. We were close enough to Asheville to go in and explore almost every day, and still had the peace and quiet back at the house. Steve and Joy were welcoming and the house was ready for us when we arrived. We even had a cancelled flight fiasco at the end and Steve helped us out. We will definitely be back in the future --- maybe a family reunion in the works.
Great escape for family reunions
We loved our stay at Waterfall Lodge. The property surrounding the cabin was beautiful and fun to explore. Our 6 grandchildren couldn’t get enough of looking for worms and fishing. Plenty of room for all 15 of us and the kitchen was well stocked with cooking equipment. Asheville was 25 minutes away and The Biltmore about 40 minutes. Steve was wonderful and very helpful regarding local amenities. Rooms could have used higher watt bulbs to make the rooms brighter. But other than that we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend this rental.
Rustic stay in the rain forest.
We had a great time. It rained a lot during our stay, but the covered porches allowed us to stay outside. Got some good fishing in between storms. The lodge is very spacious, which was great for our large group.
We loved the stay! Amazing time and great place!
Great experience! We all enjoyed it and would love to go back! Thank you so much for everything! 👌👍👍👍
