About the property

5 Bedrooms, 4.5 Baths (Sleeps 10 plus) Spectacular Hacienda with mountain views

Imagine a magnificient 6,500 square foot Adobe Hacienda on top of the Hueco Mountains overlooking El Paso, Texas. Nestled within a 10,000 acre ranch (16 square miles) with 5 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, two Spanish courtyards one with an adobe fireplace the other with a Margarita bar, a fabulous deck, a commercial kitchen and spacious dining room with large dining table for twelve. Three lounge areas with fireplaces provide comfortable conversation areas. Saltillo tiled floors and Navajo rugs add charm and warmth throughout the whole home. Recently remodeled and decorated in a western motif it's completely private with stunning views from virtually every room.

Easily accessible, Mile High Hacienda is close to all of the El Paso & Juarez Metroplex. With national parks, hiking, shopping, and historical areas nearby, Mile High is a perfect setting for your visit to the El Paso area. Only 25 minutes from the El Paso Airport and downtown area, however you'll feel like you're a million miles away. Serenity and privacy are the comments we hear the most from our previous guests.

ATV rentals can be arranged in advance with a local company nearby. After all, a ten thousand acre (16 square miles) ranch is yours to explore and enjoy. Imagine the thrill of seeing Mule Deer, cattle, roadrunners, and other birds of West Texas in their natural habitat.

***EVENTS AND WEDDINGS***

The daily rental rates only apply to overnight guests up to 12 persons and do not apply to Weddings or Events. Mile High Hacienda can accommodate no more than 50 people due to parking on top of a mountain. Any wedding or event would be at the current three day mimimum rate. In the meantime if you'd like to discuss your upcoming event, contact us and we'll discuss what we can do for you.

About C.J. Johns

Greetings! I'm CJ Johns, a rancher, running cattle in some of the toughest country in the USA, and I wouldn't have it any other way. If you are here visiting I'd love to have you experience this wondrous country of mine. Some of my personal western collection is displayed in this home for your enjoyment. Mile High Hacienda was designed to give you the unique flavor and experience of this part of the Southwest. I hope you'll love it as much as we do.

C.J. Johns purchased this lodge in 1992

Why C.J. Johns chose Big Bend Country

This was originally a large ranch adobe home that sat next to a 10,000 acre operation that I had previously bought. Rather than see it be bought and built into something uncharacteristic of the area, I purchased it. After completely rebuilding, restoring and remodeling Mile High Hacienda, it is now available for you to enjoy. With the ambience and solitude of the high mountain desert and the convenience of a city, Mile High Hacienda is truly a one of a kind find.

What makes this lodge unique

Views, views, views. 360 degrees of views from the top of the high mountain where Mile High is located. The stunning sunsets from the deck or the colorful Margarita bar, are argumentatively the best in the Southwest. When the mule deer come in to water in the late afternoon it is a truly breathtaking event.

Guided horseback rides are offered with advance notice as well as ATV rentals nearby. If you like hiking the Hueco Tanks State Park is only 6 miles away. The Guadalupe Nat'l Park and Carlsbad Caverns are down the road. Spanish missions are in the Rio Grande Valley.

Owner's Response: What a kind review, thank you very much. This property continues to get FIVE STAR reviews. Maybe it is the location, HIGHEST HACIENDA IN TEXAS or the beautiful views or the 10,000 acres it is located on or perhaps it is located only 30 minutes from the airport. What ever the reason thank you for your kind note and we hope to see you on your next trip.

Unbelievable views. Unique house with so much character. Unlike any other place I have stayed.

  • 5 of 5

Although the house needs some work in some of the areas it is very comfortable and unique. The beds are very comfortable. The views are enough to satisfy anyone. From walks on the property to smores in the outdoor patio our family had a blast. The kitchen worked well for our large group with plenty of items to make any meal. Would gladly go back next time in El Paso.

Mile High Wedding

  • 5 of 5

Our son and his fiancee wanted to get married on a mountain top. We are from El Paso, but never imagined a place like this existed so close to home. Mile High was the most magnificent location we could have asked for. This was the perfect place for a sunset wedding, can't get a better view of a sunset than Mile High. All the guests were amazed at the beauty and tranquility all around. The house has so many details and wonderful surprises, even to the shooting stars we saw from the deck. Everything was well appointed and Donna made the stay seamless from the reservation to checking in/out. Many of our family are wanting to stay here for their own vacations. Thank you for a beautiful and memorable weekend, we will be back

Transcendent Experience for a Family Gathering in a Time of Grief

  • 5 of 5

We traveled to far West Texas to scatter the ashes of our beloved brother after he had passed away a mere 22 days after his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Shell-shocked from our brother's precipitous passing, we came to place his ashes in the shadow of the Guadalupe Mountains, per his wishes. Mile High Hacienda was a magical, healing place for family to gather and celebrate his life and comfort each other. The views are stunning, the accommodations marvelous. Best of all was the long dining table, perfect for our tribe to gather for the extravagant meals that we prepared at Mile High, because that's what our family does. A glorious blend of luxury and rustic desert austerity, Mile High provided the perfect setting for us to mourn, celebrate, commiserate, congregate, and be family.

Owner's Response: First of all let me say we are most sorry to hear about the sudden loss of your beloved brother. We were overwhelmed to hear how Mile High Hacienda helped in some way to for your family come to together to celebrate his life and start the healing. I can't imagine a more fitting and beautiful place to spread your brother's ashes than the Guadalupe Mountains. God bless you all. CJ & Donna

Unbelievable scenery and Truly a unique experience.

  • 5 of 5

My wife is originally from El Paso and I was stationed there in the Army 25 years ago. We go back to El Paso pretty much every year to visit family for our vacation. Up until this year we have always stayed at hotels in the area and could never truly relax and have evryone come and visit us. This year is our 25th wedding anniversary and my son graduated high school and is now joing the Navy so I wanted to do something special. Mile High Hacienda delivered on the something special part. It gave us the opportunity to have the whole family together for a special celebration party and there is much more space than we needed. Everyone loved the place, the views are breathtaking. You will not get a better view anywhere else in El Paso. The quietness is also very welcome and there is wildlife all over. We watched the deer every night and also saw a family of Javalina Pigs one morning. The house provided us with everything that was needed and we truly felt at home. Donna was very quick to respond with any questionsthat we had and we were truly grateful to have had the opportunity to have stayed here. I would just like to say that if you are considering staying here but are not quite sure to do it, you will not regret it and you will have memories to last a lifetime. Thanks again Donna !!!

Owner's Response: What a beautiful note! You guys are the best......I am not sure I deserve so much credit but thank you. We love to hear back from guests, especially from those that realize that our Mile High is very special but might not be for every one. After all some folks are uncomfortable with mule deer on the driveway. Anyway thanks for the very nice note. Donna & C.J.

Amazing house with incredible views!

  • 5 of 5

Even after drooling over the photos that are listed, this surpassed all expectations!! The house was amazing, provided everything we needed, and was very well-maintained. We only had one snafu while trying to turn on a bedroom heater, but the owners were very quick to assist us over the phone in order to remedy it and make it more comfortable for us!

I would highly recommend this property to all of my friends/family for any of their future large gatherings. In fact, one of my guests went straight to this website upon her arrival to see if it was available for her to use later this year.

The large dining room was perfect for the party festivities while the front living room was nice and cozy for chatting afterwards.

Atop the Hueco Mountains at almost 5,700 feet, Mile High Hacienda, is the highest house in Texas. With a 360 degree view encompassing two countries and three states, you'll experience legendary southwest sunsets, and a breathtaking nighttime view of the lights of the El Paso-Juarez metroplex and evening skies and stars.

Mile High Hacienda is only a 25-minute drive from El Paso International Airport. The Hacienda itself is a sprawling 6,500 square foot rustic ranch style adobe located within a 10,000 acre ranch (17 square miles). This makes Mile High a very private home that is also easily accessible to the city of El Paso. El Paso is the 17th largest city in the USA and the safest city over a half million.

It's five bedrooms range from king size to twin and an additional Stone Cottage for two is available. A spacious dining room served by a commercial kitchen creates a pleasant and comfortable environment for business meetings or dining. For socializing and entertaining we have a large bar room, a margarita patio bar, adobe walled courtyard with exterior fireplace as well as a deck built out over the cliff with an incredible view of the mountains and valley below.
