44 Sailview Drive
in Cape Island
North Topsail Beach, NC
Our beautiful waterfront island home has some of the most panoramic sound, ocean and sunset views on the East Coast. Located in the upscale community of Cape Island offering pool, private dock with fishing and fish cleaning station, private boat ramp for small watercraft, over the water gazebo, marina, outside shower, all just steps away from beautiful uncrowded beaches with a private beach access.
Kayak or canoe in the canals and sound out back. Watch boats of all shapes and sizes travel the waterway. See shrimpers dragging nets to gather their catch, which can be purchased fresh from local wholesalers. Bait is available at the fishing pier just north of the entrance to Cape Island. Ocean fishing from their pier is also available for a fee. Licenses can be purchased for fishing in the sound behind the house. Licenses for pier fishing are provided by pier owners. A very casual restaurant is located on the top floor of the Sea View pier 2 minutes away where you may have a chance to eat with local fisherman or get an up to the minute fishing report.
Driving past the pier 2 miles to the north end of the island where the road ends and the sand begins may give the people with 4 wheel drive vehicles an opportunity to experience a spin on the beach in certain seasons.
We built our home in 2006 and offered it for the first time for vacation rental in 2013. The three story home (two stories above the ground level), reverse floor plan, with the main living area on the top (3rd) level guarantees the very best views are always visible from every window. Accommodations on the top level include a master bedroom and bath (with marble 2 person shower) along with a half bath off the main living, dining and kitchen area. Full glass double doors in both main living area and master bedroom maximize light and views and give access to the top floor rear patio deck.
Second floor includes 4 additional bedrooms and 2 full baths and washer dryer area off the main hallway. Rear bedrooms on this floor also have full glass double doors to maximize light and views. An elevator services all levels.
Our home is 5 to 10 minutes from everything you will need on your vacation or 35 minutes or less from Jacksonville or Wilmington. Topsail Island is home to various bird species all of which can be viewed from the shade of our patio decks along with dolphin pods feeding in the intracoastal and shallow waters of Alligator Bay.
As for alligators, we have never seen any in the waters behind our home however, golfers may run across the occasional gator around the ponds at the North Shore Country Club course. If you visit Grants Seafood across the sound from us you may get a glimpse of 'Wally', the resident reptile waiting for a meal of scraps. Watch carefully early morning and late evening for a glimpse of the bobcat family living nearby. Not always seen but they leave signs of their existence on our pier on a regular basis. They can also sometimes be heard early in the morning. Deer can often be spotted feeding on the open lots and be careful for an occasional fox crossing in front of your car around the clubhouse and pool area.
An evening walk around the neighborhood will allow you to take in the clean sea air. A public park you will pass just down the road offers basketball, volleyball, tennis and a playground for the kids. Because Topsail Island is a sea turtle preserve, watch groups can be seen on the beach during the 'hatch', protecting nests. A trip to the sea turtle hospital just off the island in Surf City will expose you to the great work they do. Another interesting fact is that Topsail Island was the original home of NASA until weather conditions in the area were deemed not acceptable for the work they would need to perform.
Topsail Island, a small pristine seaside community, has everything you need. Or slow down, relax and do nothing at all. Either way, come see us.
