Welcome to Himaya House. Situated on a coral buff overlooking Silversands Beach, Malindi, the views are stunning. There are two magnificent Baobab trees which give a very special feeling to the property. There is a short path down to the beach - only accessed through a carved wooden door - giving you complete privacy and exclusivity.

The house is spacious and cool with a north or south monsoon blowing most of the year. The main house has a large living area plus veranda with the Master Bedroom up above. All rooms have a spectacular view. Three of the bedrooms are in a separate unit with steps down to the swimming pool and one of the bedrooms is nestled beneath a beautiful baobab.

Malindi is a lively town with lively discos during the peak seasons.

Fantastic stay in beautiful surroundings

We spent one of the best holidays we've ever experienced at Himaya house - couldn't recommend highly enough! Everything in our stay was perfect and well attended to. The house itself is in a gorgeous location, and is fabulously well-maintained as well as spotless. The food is to-die-for (especially the prawn curry), and Lissa's hospitality was absolutely incredible. In addition, Malindi itself is a lovely town, and also close to other great places to visit, including Tsavo national park (a few hours drive), the arabuko-Sokoke forest (about 30 minutes away), and Watamu (a nice coastal village) which we visited during our stay as well. Cannot wait to stay again!

Everything that we could have wanted

Himaya is the most beautiful property in a totally stunning location. Perched on the corner, it gives views across the sea and length of the beach, allowing you to feel on the beach and also secluded at the same time. The bedrooms are peaceful with the warm breeze of the Indian Ocean drifting through and the staff were all truly wonderful. Sammy's cooking justifies the stay alone, and the professional and friendly service of the rest of the staff was really touching. I can't recommend the property highly enough and Lissa was a dream to deal with. We explored the surrounding area quite a bit whilst also finding time to relax. Through Lissa's contacts we were able to easily organise a private safari driver to take us to Tsavo, as well as a really wonderful trip to the Arabuko-Sikoki forest just South of Malindi where we saw some beautiful animals found nowhere else in the world. We spent time in Malindi Old Town and ate out at some really lovely local restaurants, including the Crab Shack where we managed to pinch the best table in the house for the sunset over the water. This property is an absolute paradise and I am alreay making plans to return in 2019.

A beautiful Kenyan idyll!

Our stay in this beautiful property exceeded all expectations. The setting up on a small promontory affords spectacular views over the white shore of the bay. And you can admire them all day whether you’re basking in the sun by the pool, dozing in a hammock under the shade of the ancient baobab tree, working in your bedroom or drinking something chilled at the dining table on the veranda. The tranquillity of the house does not come at the expense of access to activities. There are some excellent bars/restaurants a short walk down the beach and Malindi town is close by. The villa’s proximity to Tsavo East also meant we were able to get in a full day’s safari (seeing almost everything you could hope to see and hundreds of ‘red’ elephants…). The service provided by the lovely staff was first-rate. Hats off to Sami and Silas especially who made every meal a real treat; and even taught us a thing or two about cooking fish! I can’t wait to go back. Highly recommended!

Heaven in Paradise

I have been lucky to stay in a number of great places all over the world over the past twenty years and can say hand on heart my stay at Himaya was one of the very best. We had been in the Mara for four days and were looking forward to the beach part of our holiday. Communication and booking was efficient & effortless which had given me a very positive feeling about staying there before we even arrived. Lissa who owns Himaya is passionate about ensuring you have what you want and need and is always on hand. She is kind, considerate and knows a great deal of people so if its buying local art to who should you snorkel with she can help. The pictures on the website simply don't do this place justice. Heaven in paradise. The house and gardens are beautiful. The views of the beach and ocean from all over the house and garden are breath-taking. Having your meals outside while gazing at the ocean is a magical experience. The team really look after you but don't fuss around you, nothing is too much trouble and pleasing you and making your stay as comfortable as possible is their focus. Sammy is an exceptional cook. From the lightest pancakes and freshly squeezed passion fruit at breakfast, to lunches and dinners of whole baked parrot fish, melt in the mouth squid and king prawn curries to die for. If you love your seafood and appreciate sublime cooking he is your man. He is happy to cook whatever you want but my recommendation is just leave it to him, he shops daily and knows what’s best to buy. I recommend long walks along the glorious beach and swims in the stunning sea on a regular basis to make room for what delights Sammy has in store for you. If the long walks are not to your choosing, crash by the pool which is big and perfectly kept and listen to the ocean. After Himaya we went to Cheshale for 5 days, (beautiful place, great kite boarding, good food) after two days there my children begged me to ask Lissa if we could come back for one last day and curry lunch, they wanted their last memory of Kenya to be at Himaya, I had thought it might have been seeing all the wildlife but it was Himaya. Thank fully Lissa gave them their wish. I cannot recommend this fantastic home enough. Don't waste your time looking for anywhere else. Thank you Lissa. Ghaleb and the Ladies.

Amazing As Ever

An oceanside oasis is an understatement for our second stay at Himaya. We were able to come for longer this time and it was so much more than we could have hoped for. The property is amazing and Lissa and the entire staff at Himaya was again, perfect. We enjoyed lovely meals prepared by Sammy and a beautifully taken care of environment from Silas and the rest of the staff. There is nothing quite like being taken care of for a few weeks to be able to relax and get back in touch with your family. If you are visiting Malindi, the first thing you need to do is book Himaya for your stay and the rest of the planning will take care of itself!

wonderful home, service and owner!

Himaya house for 6 days was a perfect spot after our 2 week Kenyan safari. Lissa was so patient responding to my many emails and questions. She was able to help us reserve kayaks and paddleboards to have at the house upon our arrival. She and Lulu walked the beach with us on our first full day to make sure we were comfortable. She helped us book a great snorkeling trip with Isaac. She found some uno cards for us to play and visited us daily and we enjoyed our conversations with her. She has rescue animals which my kids loved as they missed our dog. Our teens loved having the guest house to themselves and we loved the views and sounds of the ocean from the master bed room. The fans and ocean breezes kept the house cool. The views-of the baobab trees, of the garden, the pool, the ocean - were so lovely and calming. We quickly adapted to the Swahili way and never wore shoes in the house (or outside for that matter!) We played many a card game at the outside table and enjoyed the veranda for meals and reading. The level of service from the staff was amazing. Sammy, the chef, cooked amazing meals. We ate seafood for every meal and my son declared his pasta Bolognese to be tied as #1. I miss my fresh fruits and custom cooked breakfasts, the amazing soups, the best friend calamari we have ever eaten (and we have eaten a lot!), the prawns, the crab cakes and the tons of pasta my kids kept requesting! Sammy did it all with a smile. Silas and Mapinga helped us carry the paddleboards and kayaks to and from the beach every day and even joined us for a few rides. That was great fun and we enjoyed the conversations with them. Nothing was too much to ask for and it was always done with a smile. It was stress free-having a fully staffed house is a new concept for us but it allows for a wonderfully relaxing vacation. My laundered and ironed clothes appeared like magic every day! The house and grounds were kept very clean. The pool was wonderful and patio furniture was so comfy. Views were great down to the beach. We enjoyed watching the kids below playing soccer or the professional acrobats practicing. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Himaya House and miss it already!! Absolutely gorgeous property with the nicest host!

Our time in Lissa’s gorgeous home was beyond perfect. The house is right on the beach and can be accessed from a little door in the garden. The deck offers a stunning view of the sea and the cliffs around, as does the bedroom upstairs. The other bedrooms are a few steps away from this part of the house. These are large and airy rooms with big sit-outs that lead to the swimming pool. We spent a lot of time in and around the pool! The house is beautifully done up and has every comfort. I do not exaggerate when I say that it was terribly hard to leave Lissa’s piece of paradise and we’re already wondering when we can go back. The house is well-located in Malindi – close to the centre of town but away from the noise. It is useful to have a car there. What made our stay beyond perfect were the people. Lissa is warm and welcoming and ever so helpful! She has many interesting stories to tell and guided us about which shops to visit and where we could get groceries, etc. Sammy and Silas took such good care of us. We ate Sammy’s delicious meals every day and Silas made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Lissa’s many rescue cats and one dog mostly keep to themselves but it’s very nice to have them around and they only add to the warmth and welcoming of the place. Thank you Lissa and can’t wait to come back!

A perfect holiday home - in all aspects

The Himaya House was absolutely stunning. We stayed there during Christmas and New Year, and had a really great stay. The owner is so helpful, caring for all the needs we had, and the same was the staff. We could not have asked for more:-) The property itself has a stunning location, with sun all day and view to the beach and sea. The property has a large, private swimmingpool and direct, private access to the beach. The houses (main wing and guest wing) were well maintained, clean and the staff made the most delicious food. The closeness to the beach also meant walking distance to nice restaurants there. We also took tuk-tuks to the city of Malindi to do grocery shopping and some sightseeing. We really reccommend staying at Himaya house if you are going to Kenya, our stay was amazing!!

A Home away from Home!

This was our family's third time to stay at Himaya and I can honestly say that it felt like going home! We had an unexpected travel delay with our flights and instead of arriving before lunch we arrived after dark. The staff greeted us with huge smiles and big hugs. Sammy the chef had remembered one of our favorite meals from the year before and had it prepared and ready for us. With five hungry children, after a long day of travel, I cannot tell you what a blessing that was. Our stay was so relaxing and stress free. Anytime the power would go out the generator was quick to come on, so it was never an inconvenience. The view from the porch overlooking the ocean is one of our favorite spots. The children enjoyed the pool for hours every day and it is so nice having access to the ocean right at the house. That way you can watch the tide and go to the ocean accordingly. Low tide exploring walks were great and playing in the waves at high tide is always so much fun. I highly, highly recommend a stay here!

Wonderful, relaxing stay in paradise

A group of 7 of us stayed for 2 weeks at Himaya House and we received absolutely wonderful treatment. The accommodation was excellent; comfortable beds, airy rooms, well equipped bathrooms. There was also plenty of space for us all to be comfortable, enabling us to have chill time alone, as well as good socialising spaces. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special; the garden and pool were beautiful, everything was always clean, and the cooking was fantastic. Lissa was very thoughtful and had bought some essential food items in time for our arrival. She also has a useful folder of tips for staying in Malindi and ideas of places to go and see. The proximity to the beach is perfect, enabling us to enjoy the marine park and sea. I would 100% recommend Himaya House to anyone wanting to stay in Malindi.

Absouloutly wonderful!

This is a perfect place if you are looking for a relaxing and wonderful holiday with family or friends. The house is at a perfect spot, on a cliff to overlook the sea and parts of the marine park with a stunning view and there is a direkt access to the beach. Lissa, the owner and her team are very professional, very kind, the chef cooks fantastic food. They always care about any extra need. It is indeed a very special and great place - we will always try to come back!

Paradise

We arrived hot and sticky to this fabulous place where we were made to feel welcome and at home. The pool, to where we headed, is just wonderful-warm and fun, with lots of sun and shade loungers. Peaceful and relaxing family holiday!

This was our family's second time to stay at this property and we truly can't imagine staying anywhere else at this point. We have five children, ranging in age from 6-12yrs old, yet this house somehow meets the needs of each family member while we are there. It is so convenient having a private access to the beach and ability to go as desired without much planning needing to be involved. We could literally sit on our porch and makes plans according to the tide at that moment. The staff of the house went above and beyond their job duties, especially with their care for our children. Often going out of their way to keep them entertained and answer any questions that they might have about life in Kenya. We stayed for a month, yet there wasn't a single day that our needs and comfort were not met beyond our expectations. The food that Sammy prepared was AMAZING and even after four weeks we were still not running out of options for new and exciting meals. The property is very well maintained, always clean and orderly. Himaya truly feels like a home away from home for our family (although one with a much nicer view!).

Amazing!

Of all the homes and resorts that we experienced across Kenya and Tanzania, Himaya house was our favorite! Not only is the house beautiful and artful and the location overlooking the ocean idyllic, the people of Himaya are warm, genuine and generous. The owner, Lissa, went out of her way to recommend special experiences and to accommodate our every need . She even took our 11-year-old son under her wing inviting him to help her care for the injured bush baby that she was fostering. The staff too went out of their way to make our stay pleasant, helping with everything from laundry to negotiating fair prices for our excursions in the area. & never have we eaten as well as during our stay at Himaya! Sammy’s cooking is exquisite. Himaya is truly a sanctuary; beautiful, peaceful and pleasurable.

Incredible Family Home for a Holiday

Our group of 3 adults and 5 children (ages 5-11) stayed at Himaya House for one month and it completely exceeded any expectation we might have had in every possible way. I cannot speak highly enough of what a joy all of our family had. We were in major need of a relaxing, peaceful time and we found that and more. The setting was beautiful and our kids had such a great time swimming in both the pool and ocean. We brought our own snorkel gear and were able to see amazing sea life just outside our private beach door. The amazing staff took care of our every need, but seemed invisible when they were not needed. Lissa was so helpful with all the details and even arranged to have the first lunch, dinner and breakfast taken care of so we wouldn't have to worry about it. The chef, Sammy, made incredible meals that even our picky 5yr old enjoyed. Town was just a short tuk tuk ride away for any food or supplies that we needed. We can't wait to travel back again and hope that Himaya will become a regular part of our children's memories for years to come.

Absolutely fabulous

This holiday exceeded our expectations by a long way. The house itself is airy and open with a breathtaking view; well appointed and stylishly designed - you don't just get a door jamb, but a hand crafted piece of work by a carver from Lamu! Rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious, but the staff make the place and the stay memorable - present, but not intrusive yet always ready to help. All the staff are attentive, but Sammy the chef deserves a particular mention - his prawn curry, Swahili chicken and crab cakes were outstanding, and every meal he prepared for us was delicious. Lissa was the perfect hostess, she knows everything and everyone; nothing is too much trouble to organise, and because of her local knowledge we actually felt part of the community, rather than just a fly by night tourist. Look out Lissa - we will be back!

fantastic food, relaxing and peaceful setting

Himaya House is a beautiful and relaxing destination. The highlight would have to be the cook, Sammy, who was brilliant! It was great to have a full-time cook on site. We didn't really want to venture out too much at all because his cooking was so great! We had fresh seafood for seven nights straight, and opted for a change after that. The other staff are lovely, fantastic service, and certainly not too obtrusive, and only too happy to help you with what you might need. It was lovely to sit in the evenings and have a meal overlooking the ocean, very peaceful environment. We stayed for nine nights with our friends and their kids. Himaya House is well set up where we had quite separate sleeping quarters, so still felt like we had a bit of privacy. The pool was well maintained and very relaxing. There is a beach access door from the property, so you can walk straight out onto the beach. Only downside of the whole trip was that our sandals/flip flops were stolen on the first day. Soon learnt that quick lesson: don't leave anything on the beach (our own fault really for not being too careful). The beach also had a few hawkers and youths pretending to be your tour guide then asking for money; but the novelty of us soon wore off after a while and we could enjoy the beach in relative peace. It's a bit of a walk to town, so we took the local tuk tuks, very affordable and quite regular, to town. Lovely and relaxing stay - just what we needed! Would recommend again. Perfect for a group of friends or a couple of families.

Medicine we needed: sunshine, sand, & seafood

The house is perfect. A little slice of heaven. There really isn’t a better spot in Malindi with the beach steps away, the fantastic views, sunsets from the swimming pool, beautiful garden, massive baobob tree, breezy verandas to relax on… I just wish I was going back soon. We stayed for nine glorious days with our two children (five and three) and two other friends. We could have easily had another couple or family stay though it was nice to spread out in the “guest wing” with the kids and have our own space. Lissa is a perfect hostess and helped set up the outings we wanted and recommended places to take the kids horse-back riding and snorkeling, as well as eating out—which we only did once because it is so delicious and cost-effective to eat-in (we did it plenty of gelato in town however—which his really good). And truth be told—the house has better views than any restaurant in town. The staff are amazing at being exceptionally helpful as well as entirely unobtrusive. We always felt well-looked after but like we had as much privacy as we wanted. We never had to lock anything, wash anything, or organize anything—everything seemed to be done by magic, but of course it was the conscious labor of a friendly and attentive team. Sammy’s cooking was delectable, and after being land-locked we were thrilled to have so much incredible sea-food. Sammy accommodated our group which included fussy-eating children with a separate dinner-time, and adults who both loved and totally disliked spicy food—quite a feat which he pulled off much to everyone’s satisfaction. I hope we will be back and highly recommend booking a holiday here.

A fabulous property in all respects

I stayed in this house with my daughter for a week in early May. I just cannot find the words to express how perfect it was. Property exactly as you see it from the photos. So lovely we only ate out once! The owner, Lissa, was very accessible and even did our grocery shopping for us which, we thought, was going above and beyond expectations. The property is not overlooked and the garden is very lush and green. The only noise you will ear is the lapping of the waves on the beach below and, occasionally, the wind in the trees. The staff were wonderful, never intrusive, and Sammy made us excellent meals. Could not speak more highly of the property and could find no negatives.

One of the most tranquil and lovely houses avail.

My wife and I stayed here before working in Kenya for medical and church work. It was perfect for what we needed. The staff are amazing as they meet every need while not being intrusive. The chef is included in the price and well worth it. He took us into town shopping for the week to choose our fresh fish and vegetables. Chicken meals were so excellent we asked for the recipe to many of his dishes. The house is more than can be photographed and the views are stunning inside the house and on the terraces and grounds. Nightly there are armed guards paid for by the wonderful owner Lissa who lives next door in a house 2 houses away. Included are 3 charming condos perfect for lounging at the pool that have all the amenities and great for friends or family members if you plan a larger group vacation or event. We loved the privacy and secluded feel the property enjoys by being on the cliff but on the beach. The grounds have a sturdy and secure gate that leads right on the beach with a shower grotto for washing off the sand. It has everything you need and more. We highly recommend this vacation rental for the value shopper who wants it all at an affordable price. We loved it!
