Overview

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths (sleeps 11)

Woodberry is a comfortably furnished three story house 75' from the shore. The water side faces Penobscot Bay to the northwest. We enjoy beautiful sunsets sitting by the shore or from the dining room. A living room with fireplace; dining area; large, well-equipped kitchen; master bedroom (queen) and full bathroom are located on the first floor.

Upstairs are two bedrooms (2 twins, 1 queen) and one full bath. A baby layette, crib, high chair and baby gates are available. A large bathroom is shared by these two bedrooms.

Lower level (walkout) has two bedrooms (2 twins; 1 bunk bed & 1 day bed), bath with shower and twin sinks, laundry area and a family room. Family room offers a TV for viewing movies, a small game table and a doll house. Lots of movies and games for adults and children on site.

The water side of the house features a deck with glass rails for an unobstructed view and a covered screened porch. Four of five bedrooms have water views.

TVs are for movies only. No broadcast or cable TV reception. Satellite-souced internet access via WIFI is 5MB. This is sufficient for checking email and quick internet searches; not sufficient for streaming. Additional WIFI may be purchased. Long distance calls off island from our land line require a calling card.

The access point to our typically Maine rocky beach is marked by a rope around a tree. You'll step down approx. 18" onto sloping rocks and walk down rocks to the beach using a rope as a hand hold, as needed, for a portion of the descent. The elderly and small children will not find this easy access. The difference in elevation between our land and the beach is approximately 12'.

We hope to have you stay at Woodberry.

About Debbie Weeter

My husband Greg and I built Woodberry starting in 2002 when we cut trees with the help of his 81 year old Mom, Anne. We opened it for rentals in 2004 as a two floor house with unfinished ground floor. In 2010 we put the finishing touches on the ground floor and the house now sleeps eleven.

My husband and I honeymooned on Deer Isle and visit every summer to chill out from the rigors of life and owning our own business.

Debbie Weeter purchased this house in 2004

Why Debbie Weeter chose Acadia

What we love most about visiting Woodberry is the quiet and fresh, fir-scented sea air. Oh ... and the lobsters and being a part of island life for a short while.

We love to hike on Isle au Haut (dot com) or to Barred Island. Each summer we check out the latest offerings by island artists ... lots of galleries.

Kayaking is big now and Old Quarry (dot com), a business on Deer Isle, offers rentals and guided tours plus other outdoor activities like bike rentals. Our beach is not suitable for launching boats, sadly.

Sharing the house with friends and family who make the journey north makes for many an enjoyable evening spent chatting or playing games. Or we'll venture down to Stonington to attend an Opera House (arts dot org) performance or a movie.

Mostly though it's just reading, relaxing, cooking meals together (seldom have time for that at home) and staring at the heavens on a clear evening, watching for shooting stars ... so many, many stars.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We've been coming to Deer Isle for the past 8 years and this has been one of our favorite places to stay on the island. Your home is truly magical and it was a true privilege to be able to stay here. Thanks."

Perfect for our family gathering!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much! We have loved our week-long stay at Woodberry Cottage. This gave our family the opportunity to have all 11 of us –three generations -- together for a vacation for the first time. And, it was absolutely wonderful. The cottage had all the comforts of home – everything we could imagine or need -- be it for cooking fresh lobster or a closet full of games for the evening. What an incredible view of the ocean and the sunsets! We had great fun with crab races down on the beach, watching the tides change, the trips into Stonington for ice cream, the amazing stars at night, and just relaxing. We even went swimming in the Lily Pond. Cold but good fun. This was a new experience for the grandchildren. I would highly recommend Woodberry Cottage and would love to return.

Amazing and wonderful describes Woodberry Cottage in Deer Isle.

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have vacationed at Woodberry for many, many years. The reason for our constant return is easy. The home is just beautiful, spacious and with a sensational view from multiple points in the home. The large deck and screened in porch add additional comfort and pleasure. This home has everything anyone one would ever need in a vacation home. I am thrilled to state that my family and I will be able to spend future vacations in this home that we love so much. One of the best vacation spots on the coast of Maine!

  • 5 of 5

The house is modern and clean and spacious with so many windows for a beautiful view from every room. We traveled with another family but the way the house is laid out we each had our privacy but could also join for meals and there were wonderful memories of cooking lobster and blueberry pies in that well appointed kitchen. The island too, has some terrific hiking trails and local color in Stonington. What a peaceful place to vacation. You can bet we will come again.

Wonderful Family Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for my large, extended family. We were all charmed by the personal touches and decor and realized how much work and pride has gone into making Woodberry a special Maine place. We cooked lobsters outside twice and were very impressed with the rig provided for this. I have never before been able to cook 20 lobsters at once. We had one day of heavy rain and made good use of the many games. Almost every night there was a late night, spirited game of Monopoly. The grand-kids played with many of the children’s toys there also. Most of us early risers started the day with coffee on the screened porch. We used the waterfront a lot. We swam (well the kids swam and the adults waded) every day. We went to several beaches, the Stonington Lobster Boat Races, Nervous Nellies, and we did multiple hikes, including twice to Barred Island. It was all perfect and we were sad to have the week over.

Lovely Home - Beautiful Sunsets

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I spent a week at Woodberry Cottage, and had a wonderful, relaxing time in a beautiful setting with all the amenities of home. The cottage was clean & well maintained, and the owners provided brochures & maps for area activities.

During our stay we visited Acadia National Park, Nervous Nellie's Jams & Jellies, local galleries & shops. We spent a lovely day on Eagle Island, a night stargazing at Pine Hill, and dined at several area restaurants to include Barncastle in Blue Hill & McKay's in Bar Harbor. Of course, the cottage was equipped with everything we needed to enjoy a home cooked meal, and then watch a favorite movie or play a friendly game of cards or Mahjong afterwards. The screened in porch was a great place to chat & still enjoy the outdoors; and going down to the shore and watching the sun set was spectacular.

I would highly recommend Woodberry Cottage to anyone looking for an enjoyable, worry free vacation.

Fantastic house

  • 5 of 5

I rented Woodberry for a week for my family to come visit. I fealt like I was walking into a dream on arrival. The pictures do not do the place justice. It is as nice as it can be while remaining homey and warm. Having so many things to do from the rocky shore to golf right down the road. Can't say enough, loved it. Also the owners were very pleasant to deal with.
