Why the Owner Chose Pineland, Tahoe City, CA, USA:
The West Shore is our favorite part of Tahoe—there is no better location! The views of the lake from this side are beautiful, and so close to some of our favorites areas of Tahoe—Truckee, Squaw Valley and Emerald Bay. We can be hiking, mountain biking, or cross-country skiing through ten national forest regions with less than five minutes walking or driving. The location itself is just so perfect… just five houses up from the main road and minutes from Tahoe City, it’s close to everything yet stays so quiet and comfortably secluded. When we don’t feel like making the 5-minute “trek” into town, the Natural Moon health food store and café, Tahoe House Bakery and Farmer’s Market (on Thursdays) are even closer and more fun for high-quality natural and organic grocery shopping. Obexer’s cute little market and café in Homewood is also a good place for staples and many organic health-food options. For restaurants, there are so many wonderful places to eat while looking out over the river or the lake—all so close—but nothing is more wonderful than meandering just one block down, on the bike path across from the lake, to the local Fire Sign Café and endlessly popular Sunnyside restaurant.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
On a warm spring or summer day, it’s a beautiful experience to mosey one block down the bike path along the lake, smelling the pine trees and enjoying the local flowers, to the Sunnyside Restaurant and Firesign Cafe. In the winter, the same walk is just as much fun—being just one block away, the brisk weather feels invigorating, and provides a dramatic backdrop to the cozy, warm restaurants once you’re inside. Everyone loves Sunnyside, with their deck and vast expanse of windows looking out over the lake—a wonderful place to relax and watch the sun set. (Their chocolate lava cake is also to die for.) But for breakfast and lunch, we just adore the Fire Sign Café. Their restaurant and annex are both built in the charming, classic Tahoe woodsy style. In the warm weather you can also eat on their deck, looking over a lovely, small lot filled with grass, trees and flowers. The Fire Sign makes the best coffee, their portions are generous, and their food is delicious. Even waiting for a table there is fun—on busy weekends, we enjoy a coffee while we wait in the delightful restaurant annex, playing the board games or reading the books provided. Our home was designed to bring the feeling of Tahoe inside, in an elegant and unique way. The two double-sided glass doors out to the deck and yard downstairs, and the bay windows upstairs, all give an open, beautiful view to the surrounding, 100-foot pine trees. Inside, we’ve kept the colors warm and natural, with lots of honey- and amber-shaded wood, natural hand-blown glass lights, rustic antique doorknobs, and accents and tiling in rich shades of green, wine, and browns. We hope you’ll enjoy all the special touches that we’ve added for an elegant, modern, yet organic feeling. Of course, the house is fun, too! Our spacious outdoor deck, hot tub, large LED Smart TV, and generous living/dining room area all offer lots of entertainment for gatherings of friends and family, large and small.
