Overview

About the property

Large 19th century house with gorgeous original detail - and a piano!

The Sea Captain's Home is a sprawling 4-bedroom-plus Italianate Victorian, with large rooms, tall ceilings and striking detail, on a natural 3/4 acre property. The historic house features floor-to-ceiling windows, incredible woodwork and plaster detail, carved fireplaces (decorative) - and a working, tuned, baby grand piano! Farms surround this big, private, peaceful retreat, with open fields behind us, and wild coastline minutes away. A 5-minute drive to the village of Greenport, this gracious home is perfectly located for you to enjoy all that the North Fork offers.

While we do allow some pets, please let us know in advance if you plan to bring one. All pets need to be approved in advance!

The double parlor provides a huge space to kick back and spend some quality time with family and friends. Read, play music, watch movies, or play the piano! The front parlor has a double sofabed, and a twin loveseat sofa bed. In the evening, the pocket doors close the room off completely, to give you a possible fifth bedroom. The rear parlor has a large comfortable sectional, 55" 4k smart TV with Netflix, cable, and Blu Ray DVD player. Play your music throughout the first floor on the Sonos wireless sound system. There is a formal a dining room, and second dining area in the chef's kitchen that seats 6, with windows on 3 sides, views and sunshine. There are pedestal sinks and deep antique claw foot tubs in the oversized bathrooms. The master bedroom has a King bed, the 2nd bedroom has two twins, 3rd bedroom a single bed. The fourth bedroom is a large, 24'x 12' dormer style studio with queen and full size beds, and it's own private staircase that leads directly to the kitchen. All bedrooms are air-conditioned.

The large backyard is filled with shade trees and stays quite cool in summer, perfect for reading in one of the six lounge chairs, or taking a snooze in the hammock. The large brick patio with 2 Weber charcoal grills has tables and chairs to accommodate 10 comfortably for outdoor dining. Relax in the huge yard that backs against acres of open country land for peace, privacy, and a great view.... especially at sunset. The double outdoor shower has a cedar floor and is nestled in a lush private garden.

We offer all of the comforts of home, but with a little something rustic left from days gone by. The property is extremely comfortable, and we are priced very competitively for the size and style home we offer. We are sure you will enjoy it!

Please note - WE DO NOT ALLOW ANY PARTIES OR GATHERINGS AT THE SEA CAPTAIN'S HOME. Any celebrations are to be enjoyed by our overnight guests only. A home of this age could not sustain the wear and tear that comes with the hosting of social events, so please do not plan any such events with our property in mind.

About Maria Capotorto Joseph Zizzo

New York natives who love Long Island and love the North Fork. We are both creative types, and so we appreciate the craftsmanship that went into the creation of this unique home. We love it with all our hearts.

Maria Capotorto Joseph Zizzo purchased this house in 1999

Why Maria Capotorto Joseph Zizzo chose North Fork

Truly built by a wealthy sea captain in 1860, it was owned by the same fishing family until the late 1970's. We are the fourth owners of this classic home, which has since been updated with modern amenities - yet with the rustic charm of the 1800s left intact. The North Fork is like no other place in the world, and we have been to many! The fishing and farming cultures have engendered a work ethic and an appreciation of nature in the people of the area that we really love.

What makes this house unique

You really feel the history of the North Fork in this house, in addition to enjoying the abundant nature

Guestbook comments from the owner

"The weekend we spent this last Memorial Day holiday was the kickoff to a great summer. The spring bloom was amazing at the Sea Captain's Home, with azaleas, rhododendrons and japanese snowballs in all their blazing glory. The weekend was a little rainy, but we loved hanging out in the house, which has big rooms and is very spacious. we played board games at the dining room table, and we watched videos on the comfy couch in the back parlor. we cooked amazing meals in the kitchen as well... overall just a fun, relaxing time to enjoy the company of friends we don't get to see much anymore..."

Gorgeous get-away

  • 5 of 5

The house was beautiful and the owners were super helpful and easy to work with. Great location and plenty of room for 10 to sleep, enjoy the common space together, gather around the dining room table and have a great time. Modern amenities such as the nest and sonos, with a Victorian antique feel.

Wonderful retreat with plenty of space

  • 5 of 5

We held a "ladies weekend" in October and the house had plenty of room for our group of seven. Sitting in the kitchen area, around the dining room table, or lounging in the family room or backyard – it was comfortable and relaxing! Eclectic decor adds to the character of the home and we truly enjoyed our time there. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking, lots of games to play, and a new audio system for tunes. ;) The owners were responsive and easy to work with. We loved the location – easy to get to Shelter Island, farm stands, Orient Point, vineyards, and, of course, Greenport. Wish we could go there once a month!!

Gorgeous, Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Nine of us stayed at this beautiful home in North Fork. First of all, Maria & Joe could not have been better. They were very helpful & responded to all my questions-- big or small-- within no more than a day (if not hours). Their home was absolutely GORGEOUS. The decorations were beautiful, the home well-kept & the layout was great for our group. The amenities were very nice & clean. The location is also perfect - it was close enough to most everything, but far enough that we had some quiet time. Would highly recommend to everyone!

Wonderful Weekend! Wonderful House!

  • 5 of 5

My life long girlfriends and I stayed at the Sea Captain's Home for a wine tasting weekend. There were 11 of us. The house offered plenty of room and plenty of history. We were able to make a huge sit down dinner on Friday night and enjoyed all the house had to offer. We were minutes from wineries, Greenport, and the ferry as many of us came in from Boston. The owners were great to deal with. I can't say enough good things. We all want to come back next October.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We stay here every year for a weekend of wine tasting on the North Fork. The house is beautiful with a lot of gorgeous, historical charm, and is very convenient to buses, trains, and ferries.

Perfect girls getaway, Would highly recommend!!

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect. It retains its historic charm, but has many modern conveniences. Very clean, and comfortable for guests. The backyard is a peaceful place to relax, and you forget you are on the main road. But the convenience to the ferry and to Greenport make it an ideal location. So close to the beach also. we enjoyed sitting out on the front porch drinking coffee in the morning, riding bikes to watch the sunset on the beach, perfect setting!
