About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bath with Sound, Mt. Rainier, & city views

Come and enjoy our Waterfront Beach Cottage.

The Cottage is located on Bainbridge Island in Puget Sound. It has stunning southern views of the Sound, Mt. Rainier, and Washington State Ferries. The Seattle skyline and lights are viewable from the bulkhead and fire pit. It is a fabulous place for a stress-relieving break or more active pursuits.

One of the things we enjoy most about our cozy cottage is watching local wildlife. Bald Eagles are easily seen from the home and deck. Seals, sea lions, cranes and other critters pass by daily. Orcas played off our beach from time to time. What a treat!

At low tide, throw on your water shoes and head to the beach to visit tidal pools brimming with colorful starfish and sea anemones. It’s great for anyone with a curious mind and young at heart.

The Cottage is situated along a popular and busy maritime route with Mt. Rainier as a backdrop. The water is studded with ferries, naval ships (including aircraft carriers and submarines), ocean-going ships, sail boats, yachts, kayaks and even paddleboards. If you like, you can use our 4 kayaks to explore for yourself!

Another option is to use our four (4) hybrid/mountain bikes to ride along the largely flat South Beach Drive into Ft Ward Park and then on to Lynwood Center (Pleasant Beach). Enjoy the art house theatre, bakery, restaurants, cafes, boutiques, ice cream, small grocery and a Sunday farmers' market.

Or visit Winslow, where the Seattle ferry lands and also the Island's primary shopping district. Winslow is 6 miles from the Cottage. You'll find everything you need including groceries, retail therapy, parks, walking trails along Eagle Harbor, movies and many excellent restaurants and pubs/winery tasting rooms.

If you want to play golf there are several in the vicinity.

If gambling is your fun, a casino located just off the north end of the Island. For cycling enthusiasts, Bainbridge Island is a well known bike riding destination.

The Island is blessed with trails and walks close to the Cottage, but also throughout the Island.

The Island is home to several award winning wineries and a distillery. The grapes come highly regarded Eastern Washington vineyards. The tasting rooms are eclectic, friendly, fun & scattered through Winslow and around the island.

Or, if you are just looking to get a break from it all, you most certainly can find relaxation and a retreat in our cottage all by itself. No need to leave.

All rooms have water views. The cottage features a beautiful and extremely well-equipped Kitchen.

The very comfortable Living and Dining rooms provide captivating views of the comings and goings on the water and the lights from West Seattle. In the evening, the illuminated ferries will remind you of Christmas ornaments.

The 2 Bedrooms have queen beds, flat screen TVs, and hummingbird feeders that attract birds from dawn until sunset – year round.

The "Middle Room" has a queen size sofa bed. Firm, comfortable, no back breaking bars to disrupt your slumber.

Both Bathrooms have skylights to gaze at the sky & tree boughs above. The Master Bath has a low curb, walk-in shower with a small seat. The Main Bath has a claw foot tub where you can relax.

The Deck enjoys sun during the morning and early afternoon and then shade in the afternoons. Relax on the outdoor furniture, have a sun-filled breakfast or lunch and watch the eagles soar past.

Continue down the steps towards the water for areas where you can sit and enjoy views of Seattle skyline, relax in a two person hammock, enjoy the fire pit, paddle kayaks, or hop down to the beach to explore tide pools and collect shells and rocks at low tide.

About Deb Fussell

We split our time between Seattle and Bainbridge Island truncated by attacks of wanderlust for travel. We enjoy sharing what we know and love about Bainbridge and Seattle.

Deb Fussell purchased this house in 2004

Why Deb Fussell chose Bainbridge Island

The View!!! From the moment we walk through the front door, we were stunned by the views of the Mountain and the Sound. Our original plans were to re-build and modernize the cottage, but instead, we improved it and still love it.

We lived here for two years and commuted to work from the Island. We have found that the cottage is a fantastic place to 'chill' or 'get jazzed'.

We love the feeling of being away from it all, but its only a short distance into Island centers - Winslow or Lynnwood where dining, pubs, entertainment and shopping options are numerous.

Additionally, Seattle is just a short ferry ride away.

What makes this house unique

This place puts the 'C' in Cozy, the 'FUN' in Functional, and provides a bead on maritime and wild life comings and goings.

Its a great place to enjoy the Pacific Northwest at its best. Whether from the comfort of the cottage, the expansive deck or down by the water, this is the place for you.

The kitchen is well-equipped, with just about every kitchen tool or appliance. Additionally, the Hummingbird feeder at the kitchen sink provides close encounters with the birds year round. Too cool!

The living room is nicely decorated, and comfy. It's large windows on two sides provide a fantastic view of the water and wildlife moving past. The expansive wrap around deck provides a bird's eye view of the water, the mountain, wildlife and maritime traffic.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks so much. We are so happy to be back here. Dede took a bath, put on the uniform and fell asleep on the patio about 2 hours ago waiting on dinner (ribeye on the grill with chimichurri sauce) and is still out. My key board is sticky from the Texas honeycomb I brought with me to eat with your yummy cheese. I grilled the bread you got for us with the steak and ate it….all.

I ate steak without her and feel no guilt. The tide has come in and I could cry every time a humming bird comes to feeder. It is beautiful. I am being scolded on the quarter hour (for unknown sins, I assume) by an angry ground squirrel who wants my ass off the porch.

Clearly time to freshen the cocktail.

We fell in love with the 1912 cottage that has been through a few remodels over time, including ours. It is quaint and cozy, and enjoys some of the most beautiful vistas of Mt. Rainier, the water, and maritime traffic on the island. We are positive you will absolutely love it here.

The views at this waterfront cottage are absolutely beautiful!!!

Hospitality at its finest! Debbie & Rico have created the perfect island getaway in the Pacific Northwest. My best friend and I decided to take a girls weekend at the cottage – it felt like we were getting away from it all as soon as we boarded the ferry to Bainbridge Island. After a short drive through the quaint downtown area, we found ourselves on a quiet, beautiful, pine-tree lined road down to the waterfront. The cottage was easy to find and access, and Debbie let us know she was only a text message away if we had any questions. We spent the first evening there making smores by the cozy fireplace and sipping wine. The amenities are fantastic and the view to die for – we spent half our weekend just looking out at the huge windows overlooking the bay. We saw an eagle, seals, and quite a few humming birds! The beds were oh so comfortable and everything worked as expected. All-in-all we had a fantastic time and were sad to leave – this certainly won’t be our last time at this cozy waterfront cottage! Thank you Debbie & Rico for making us feel right at home.

So glad we chose South Beach! Perfect getaway for our family to take in the beauty of the area!

  • 5 of 5

So many wonderful things to say! The location is fantastic to take in all the beauty the Sound has to offer; Mt Rainier, sea lions, eagles, majestic trees, the Seattle skyline, and enjoying watching the passing boats and ships.

The cottage! As soon as you walk through the door, you see amazing views out every window, and immediately relax. All the comforts of modern living, great kitchen with everything we needed to prepare our meals (as well as a grill on the deck!), comfortable beds- I fell in love with the bedding! We had “Alexa” playing our favorite tunes while we played cards at the kitchen table -meanwhile our grandkids enjoyed cartoons on Netflix.

The Pack-n-play was so handy to have for our 2 yr old Granddaughter.

When we arrived, Debbie had provided everything we needed to prepare breakfast to keep us from having to make a grocery trip after a long day of travel-Lifesaver!!

Debbie provides instructions all around the house that make sharing her home so simple - it’s truly a home away from home!

Debbie’s home has everything you need! It was nice to be able to use her binoculars when watching the wildlife. Cuddle up on the comfy couches... make s’mores, nap on the hammock and listen to the waves...

If you’re thinking of traveling to the area, I highly recommend staying at this piece of heaven on earth!

Debbie was very helpful with mentioning or noting places to visit, eat, and yes, drink!

We had such a great time, I hope to return someday!!

Thanks Debbie for such a wonderful place to stay!

What a wonderful cozy cottage with amazing views!!

  • 5 of 5

Went with another couple and we didn't want to leave the property! Watching the wildlife in the water, (seals and otters) and on land (eagles, red squirrels and a lot of different hummingbirds) kept us entertain for days. Everything you need in the house is there and we cooked amazing meals inside and on the grill. The island has a wonderfulTown and Country grocery store that had gourmet food plus wines! We planned on going into Seattle more than once but fell in love with island. The cottage had bikes to run around on plus the hikes and walks around the cottage were breath taking. Most of all we loved just reading and taking in the view on the deck with a glass of wine. Rent this place, and you won't be disappointed. I never had a rental where the owner left breakfast and a snack for us plus use of condiments and seasoning. Anytime i had a question or just wanted to say thanks she always responded quickly. Thanks for a perfect vacation. The Hardgrave's

The most idyllic setting!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is in the most idyllic setting that I have ever stayed in! It has a gorgeous view of Mt. Rainer and if you walk down to the water, there is a perfect view of the Seattle skyline! The cottage is well equipped and offers plenty to do. Our favorite was to go tidepooling late morning, and after the sun set, to sit on the deck with a local beer or glass of wine and listen to the waves hit the shore.

Above and Beyond!

  • 5 of 5

This was the best experience I have had in a rental home! Deb had thought of everything; food staples, wine, bikes, firewood, bath supplies, board games, etc. The home was incredibly clean, the beds were comfortable, the neighborhood was quiet and peaceful and the view was STUNNING. Extra bonus was watching the ferry go by and hummingbirds feeding at the windows while we were there. Highly recommend this cottage and will definitely return!

Cozy, comfortable, perfect setting

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay. It drizzled pretty much the whole time, but that's Washington in the spring, right? We took the ferry over to the city a couple of days and stayed close a couple of days. The cookies at Hitchcock Deli in Winslow were amazing! The cottage was cozy, clean, charming and comfortable. The views were unparalleled. Even with the drizzle, we were able to enjoy kayaking in the sound, biking and hiking. Having the bikes and kayaks available was an awesome touch. We look forward to returning.
