Large Home with every modern amenity-- 7 bedrooms, sleeps 16 very comfortably!
Perfect for multi-generational family groups. Make memories at the Magnolia Porch this year! Now accepting reservations for the few remaining weeks of Summer 2018.
Our lovely historic home was just given a facelift inside and out. A fresh coat of crisp white paint on the exterior and a brand new kitchen, den, and pantry with a new open concept floor plan on the interior.
We added over 400 square feet of brand new kitchen and open floor plan living space. We now have two refrigerators, a 36" professional gas range, two ultra quiet dishwashers, three large sinks with disposals, and a separate kitchen pantry area for your entertaining convenience. The rear portion of this wonderful historic home has been newly constructed and a large and modernized living space awaits.
You simply will not forget your vacation at the Magnolia Porch! You can practically live on the enormous wrap around covered porch which has 1260 square feet of eating, playing, and relaxing spaces for everyone in your group! Seven large bedrooms and 3 full and two half baths PLUS two outdoor showers with private changing rooms!
Our open floor plan kitchen space is updated in every way. We also renovated an upstairs bath (added tile and a large shower with glass surround) and added a new powder room on the first floor for a total of 5 showers (3 inside and 2 outside), a bathtub, and 5 toilets.
Sleeps 16 very comfortably---no squeezing into cramped 'double beds' or sleeping in the living room or sunporch in this spacious comfortable home. 'Room for 16' means that EVERY one of the 16 people in your party has their own comfortable bed, in a designated bedroom space, with a door that closes! Our beds are either King or Queen or standard sized Singles. We don't believe in overcrowding the home or making some folks sleep on uncomfortable sofa-beds or roll-away cots while they're on vacation.
Our beautifully landscaped yard includes gardens, a new gas grill, two bike racks, two picnic tables and lounging chairs. Our private backyard is big enough for a friendly game of touch football or a spirited frisbee toss....yes, we have the biggest lawn on the block (!) so make sure you bring the games!
After a day of playing on the world famous white sand beaches of Cape May, return to enjoy this home's expansive living spaces. Enjoy rocking your cares away on one of our 10 big wooden rockers or sip a cocktail while enjoying the gentle breezes and listening to the waves on the beach which is only one short block away. Kick off your flip flops and swing on our vintage double porch swing or laze the day away on the extra wide rope hammock perfectly positioned with an ocean peek just for you. There are also three eating tables with chairs and two servers on this magnificent tree lined porch as well as several other quiet spaces for sipping coffee while you enjoy the morning sun spilling through the magnolias.
Take a stroll on Cape May's scenic beachside promenade.....or take a run if you're up to it. It's only a block away. Park your car for the week and forget about it....in fact, park 4 additional cars because there's room for everyone in our private driveway. (Free street parking on our block too!) Absolutely everything you could want is only a short walk away. Fabulous shopping and Zagat rated restaurants, water sports, fishing, biking, it's all here waiting for you.
This home has a rich history with every modern amenity. No stuffy Victorian furniture or crazy old flowered wallpaper to contend with....just clean, well appointed, and spacious rooms . Five clean modernized baths (three with showers) as well as two outside showers, each with its own private changing room, await your group. New high-efficiency full-sized washer and dryer for your convenience. Two zone air-conditioning and forced hot air heating systems keep you comfortable year round. Two state-of-the-art tankless on-demand hot water systems provide limitless warm showers for your group. Never run out of hot water here at the Magnolia Porch!
Our large sunny kitchen includes granite countertops throughout; a prep island with sink and three counter stools; all new appliances including a 36 inch Professional KitchenAid stainless convection gas range; 2 full sized stainless steel refrigerators (both equipped with ice makers); two ultra quiet Bosch dishwashers; and three stainless steel sinks -- all with garbage disposals. Almost 50 cubic feet of refrigeration space is sure to hold all of the provisions for your group. You will want for nothing in this massive, state of the art kitchen addition with adjoining breakfast/den area and a separate pantry that is actually a second (!) kitchen.
After a day of sightseeing or shopping, you'll enjoy relaxing in this home's expansive living spaces. Enter the large foyer through the welcoming dutch door and enjoy this entertaining area which is fully equipped with bar glasses, ice bucket, and serving pieces. A large adjoining living room with big comfortable wrap around sofas and a game table welcome you along with a fireplace original to the home. Lots of seating here in this beautiful room which is appointed with lots of books, many DVDs, and a 55 inch high definition Smart TV with upgraded cable package, and wireless internet....all for your enjoyment.
Beyond the living room is an expansive dining room with granite topped lighted buffet niche and seating for all at our 120" table. Large double mahogany doors open onto the side porch from this wonderful room......cocktails anyone?
Just beyond the dining room is our pantry area. This is essentially a second kitchen since it is equipped with a full size refrigerator, a stainless sink with garbage disposal, microwave, and even includes a second ultra quiet Bosch dishwasher. This unique space includes floating wooden shelves which have been created from the recycled timbers of old homes right here in Cape May. Custom lighting makes this a special place for your morning coffee or for setting up a wine & cheese or appetizer station. This pantry's large wooden sideboard was created from recycled foundry pieces and can accommodate lots of platters for serving those special meals and for setting up a buffet since it is only steps away from our beautiful dining room and is easily accessible from the porch.
Beyond the pantry is a den (perfect for TV viewing!) which can accommodate a separate gathering of sports fans or cartoon watchers. A new powder room has been added here for extra convenience. This beautiful sunny room includes another large 55 inch Smart TV and is the ideal place to begin your day connecting with family and friends and catching up on the news or checking your email. This lovely room is also equipped with a new stereo receiver with bluetooth capabilities so you can play the radio or your own music through our Bose speakers.
Complimentary password protected internet connection is accessible throughout our home and on the porch. All TVs are new and include an upgraded Comcast cable package with sports channels .
Once you're ready to retire, choose from among this home's 7 large bedrooms; again, no squeezing into cots or uncomfortable sofa beds here! Three of our bedrooms are conveniently located on the first floor with access from a quiet hallway, away from the action. There are also two bathrooms down this hall.... only a few steps away from the bedrooms.
The three bedrooms on the first floor include:
Bedroom #1-- King bed with high definition TV--this room is large enough to accommodate a baby crib;
Bedroom #2-- Queen bed with high definition TV and an additional outside door for direct access to the porch;
Bedroom #3--Two twin beds and two beautiful oversized windows to catch those breezes.
The four bedrooms on the second floor have access to the two full baths on this level. None of our bathrooms are ensuite, so all guests have access. The second floor bedrooms include:
Bedroom #4--One Queen and one single bed--this room has plenty of room to accommodate a baby crib in the room or in this room's large closet (with window);
Bedroom #5--One King bed (new windows and a fresh coat of paint this season!) also has high definition TV and is large enough for a crib;
Bedroom #6--Three twin beds--this room also has an extra large closet with a window which could also fit a crib. (New windows and fresh coat of paint here this season too)
Bedroom #7--One Queen bed and only steps to the remodeled bathroom with oversized shower. This beautiful room also has direct access to first floor via the back staircase.

Marc & Ann grew up vacationing at New Jersey's beaches with their families...traveling for hours in the back of big old station wagons loaded with kids and stuff for the coveted 'week at the shore'! 'Our children have also enjoyed those same annual trips to the shore and we're thrilled to have a space we can call home in Cape May!'
Ann purchased this House in 2013
Why Ann chose Historic District
We feel so fortunate to own a place in Cape May! This beautiful town is bustling during every month of the year. In addition to its pristine beaches and all of the summer fun that goes along with the sand and surf, there is also a vibrant community of year-round residents here that supports the arts and organizes festivals [food & wine; lima beans(!); seafood; Octoberfest---just to name a few]. In the warmer months, there are also deep sea fishing competitions including shark hunts, weekly movies on the beach, whale watching, horse and carriage rides, ghost tours, you name it! At any time of the year you can explore Cape May's rich history and visit our lighthouse, the many historic buildings (many of which you can tour), and the WWII lookout! The town also hosts a flag ceremony every evening at Sunset Beach. The year-round Cape May ferry travels to Delaware for those who might want to take advantage of some tax free shopping. Many Zagat rated restaurants are open all year too! Because of Cape May's unique location at the southernmost tip of New Jersey, it is a natural resting stop on the Eastern Seaboard for all species of migratory birds and has become a mecca for bird watchers too! The US Coast Guard also has an active training center here because of this unique geography. You can take a leisurely flat bike ride out to the lighthouse or to Higbee Beach or just enjoy a stroll around in town any time of year. When you visit Cape May you'll notice that it doesn't attract the massive crowds found at many other area resorts. We especially like it because we know that our kids are safe and that there is good old fashion fun for everyone here in Cape May. Visit us.....we know you'll think so too!
What makes this House unique
We are charmed by the unique history of this old home and just could not believe how big it is! The garden is an absolute joy....pink flowering trees and magnificent flowers that bloom throughout the seasons. We especially love the way the sun filters through the trees to provide just enough privacy on those lazy afternoons when we can enjoy the sound of the waves crashing on the surf.....all from the sanctuary of our porch! We have spent many an afternoon just enjoying the cool relief of the porch's overhang with some cold beverages! We love the dutch door at the entryway and the large elegant living and dining rooms that were once home to a vibrant ballet dance studio! We were so surprised and delighted that the home didn't have any of that heavy Victorian wallpaper or those small dark rooms we had seen in other older homes in town. Everything is light and airy and we have plenty of outdoor space, not only on the massive porch but also in the yard since we are located on a triple-wide lot in the middle of the block. We also love the added convenience of having three first floor bedrooms located down a quiet hallway just beyond the foyer. After nightfall, enjoy the porch illuminated only by the moonlight and a few garden landscape lights or flip on the party lights and spend the evening playing cards or a board game. We just love the versatility of the outside spaces and we know you will too!

Magnolia Porch was the perfect vacation spot for our multi-generational family reunion. Our "foodies" loved the fully equippted, beautiful kitchen, our teens thought the hammock and rocking chairs on the porch were really "cool" as well as having the beach only a block away. And the toddlers liked having a back yard with lots of running around space. My husband and I, being the senior members of the family, appreciated having a first floor bed and bath. We have been renting houses in Cape May for over 30 years and this was, by far, the one we most enjoyed. Thank you, Ann, we hope to be back very soon.
Thank you so much for the kind review. We're so happy you were able to enjoy our home. Magnolia Porch really is a pretty special place....a giant historic Colonial Revival built in 1895 but updated with new furniture; the latest technology (WiFi, Smart TVs, etc.); and kitchenware (huge new professional gas range, 2 Bosch dishwashers & 2 full sized stainless refrigerators, kitchen gadgets, etc). Comfortable inside and outside (biggest lawn on the block) and only a short block to the beach! Multigenerational groups and foodies are becoming our specialty. We are always updating something (it's our passion!) and reviews like yours make it all worth it. Thanks for being our guests. Please come back and stay again.
Perfect week in the perfect home!
We have been coming to Cape May for 15 years. We started when we had kids in college since it was a good place to connect. Now we are going with our 3 kids, their spouses and our 7 grandchildren! We have stayed in several rental properties, sometimes for multiple years. Magnolia Porch is, by far, our favorite home. It does not feel like a rental property. It is comfortable and very tastefully decorated. There is plenty of room to spread out, even for a group of 15. The porch is awesome, which is always important to us since we spend a good deal of time out there. My 9 week old granddaughter loved the hammock! The kitchen is beautiful and has just about anything you need, including a griddle, which my son put to good use every morning when he made breakfast sandwiches for the group. It was really nice having the butler's pantry, which includes a second refrigerator. There are so many wonderful touches. We loved the free umbrellas and the beach box was a much appreciated bonus as well. We knew within a day of our visit that we wanted to come back to Magnolia Porch next year and were very happy to book again. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. We can't wait for our 2017 visit!
Thank you so much for the kind review. We are so pleased that you'll be returning to the Magnolia Porch next summer to make even more memories with your grandchildren! It's so nice to know that our guests appreciate the extra room that our giant covered porch provides.....hammock, swing, rockers, tables, etc. .....who could ask for anything more?! We think it's pretty great and we're glad you do too!!'
Exceptional home - impeccably appointed with everything one could want or need. We held a family reunion for 15 that included grandson 8 months old and great-grandmother 87. The house was perfect in every way! Ann and Marc are wonderful hosts and checked in with me on day one. Could not have had a better place or a more wonderful vacation. Thank you, Ann and Marc!
Thank you for the kind review. We are so happy you were able to enjoy some beach time at the Magnolia Porch with four generations of your family! Wow, that is quite a tribute to all of you---so very important to carve out time for each other and so happy we could be your hosts.
Our home makes hosting multi-generation groups effortless because of its size (7 bedrooms & 5 baths) and 'creature comforts' (central air conditioning and big TVs & sofas!) but especially because of all of the space in the 'public areas' of the home (giant dining and living rooms with high ceilings; enormous kitchen; 'extra' den; 1400 sq. ft wraparound porch!). Varying age ranges find our home particularly inviting too because of those all important first floor bedrooms.
We loved chatting with you in the driveway as you were checking out and were happy to get a chance to meet 'great grandmother' who was gushing and seemed absolutely smitten with our location and our home...... just seeing that twinkle in her eye made my day! It's an honor to share our home with families like yours. Please come visit again!
A New Adventure
We arrived at Magnolia Porch on Saturday afternoon, after having a nice lunch by the beach with our family. The house is so spacious and tastefully decorated and just feels like home! The bedrooms and bathrooms were amazing not to mention the new kitchen and Butlers Pantry! The wrap around porch gave us many happy hours talking and playing games with the grandkids. There is plenty of room to either be together or be alone for a nap. The dining room accommodated all of us for easy dinners. The walk to the beach was short and easy for my 4 grandchildren via a beach wagon. We left our car in the driveway and walked everywhere. Magnolia Porch includes 2 Beach umbrellas set up and a beach box to put your beach supplies in overnight. All in all, Magnolia Porch is a delightful, spacious home to rent for a week, our entire family had a difficult time leaving Cape May and Magnolia Porch behind, but back to reality!
We love to hear how people enjoy our beautiful historic home! Thanks so much for posting your comments. We are so glad you were able to spend some quality time with your family playing games and just sitting on our large breezy porch. Walks to the beach and everywhere for that matter (!) are so easy from our home.....park the car and forget about it! We're delighted that you'll be returning next summer to enjoy it all over again.
A Wonderful Week at Magnolia Porch
This lovely home couldn't have a better location! We love that it's only a block and a half from the beach, yet also a short walk to restaurants and shops. It has been a gathering place annually for our family since 1998; my, how it has changed since then! We are very appreciative of the FREE beach umbrellas and that they were set up every day when we got to the beach. The wraparound porch is fantastic and encourages outdoor eating and socializing. The kids love the hammock and the chess/checkerboard. We also like the clean outdoor showers. The inside of the house is beautifully decorated, yet comfortable and inviting. The kitchen is user-friendly and well-stocked with dishes and cooking utensils and we love that it opens into the living room. The pictures in the kitchen drawers are very helpful in returning things to where they belong. The house, as always, was well maintained, clean and comfortable. We are very impressed by all the great things you have added. We love Magnolia Porch and are so thankful that we are blessed to return every year. We can think of no better place to come together to strengthen family bonds and to enjoy all that the Cape has to offer. So...a big thank-you for all you have done to make this just the perfect place for our annual family reunion.
Thank you so much for the thoughtful review. Seems this grand historic home was built with families like yours in mind and we feel honored that Magnolia Porch has become a part of your family's tradition.....for 18 summers now! Wow! We know that your children and grandchildren gather here annually from other (far away) parts of the country and we are so glad they can all be comfortable when they return to our home.
Thanks so much for noticing all of our updates. We are constantly in search of simple, useful, and beautiful additions that will enhance the experience at our home. in addition to the recent major updates like the kitchen and new rooms at the back of the house, we are always adding new bedding and furniture, changing out curtains, or adding a few new kitchen items. It is an honor and pleasure to welcome families and friends near and far so that they may gather and make memories together here by the sea. We look forward to welcoming you back next summer and thank you again for the review!
Our family of 14 stayed here for a reunion and celebration. It is hard to add to what the other reviewers have posted since I agree with all of them. This house is beautiful, spacious, and perfect for large groups. Because the house is large and the living area from den to kitchen flows so beautifully, and the porch is so large and well-furnished, no one was crowded. The dining room was a great fit for indoor meals and the porch was perfect for outdoor meals or hanging out. There is plenty of room for multiple cooks in the bright and open kitchen. We especially liked the extra refrigerator in the pantry. Our bed was comfortable and the room (upstairs) was quiet. I would definitely return to this property.
We're so glad you were able to stay with us this summer and thank you for the review. Our kitchen is our pride and joy and we do believe that 'many hands make light work'! Creating meals and sharing laughs (and maybe some family recipes) in the kitchen is what brings our family together and I'm glad you had multiple cooks to help you too...with elbow room for everyone at the countertops, island, and second kitchen/pantry area! Glad you enjoyed the space.....no one ever says they feel crowded at the Magnolia Porch! Thank you again for the kind review. Please come back and see us again.
Steps from all Cape May has to offer. Park your car and don't move it--a short one block walk to the white sand beach and world famous Cape May promenade. Four short blocks to the center of town with shops and restaurants galore! You will not forget this unique historic home which is one of the true treasures of Cape May. Make your vacation effortless! In addition to Cape May's clean beaches, you can enjoy our free Zoo, bird watching areas, or visit some of our historic sites (by car or bike). Stroll along our Washington Mall area and enjoy an ice cream at our beautifully renovated town park with free nightly concerts. So much to do here in this beautiful small town.......simply walking the tree lined streets and enjoying the architecture (those porches!) can keep you amused for days. While you're here in Cape May at the southernmost tip of New Jersey, you may take day trips to the other area resort towns: the amusement rides and games on Wildwood's boardwalk; the casinos of Atlantic City; or just stroll along the boardwalk shops of nearby Ocean City and Stone Harbor.....they're all only a short car ride away. Or, take a short ferry ride across to the quaint town of Lewes, Delaware where you can stroll the historic streets or shop in their (tax free!) outlets.
