Why Aaron K. Heltsmith chose Southwest

This was a well cared for property that unfortunately fell into disrepair for a number of years. We purchased the property in November 2012 and spent months bringing it back to life. We are very proud of the work we have done and would love to share our home with you and your family and friends.

What makes this house unique

Comfortably sleeps 11, private heated pool, lush landscaping, close to town hide-away with privacy, easy parking for multiple cars, boats and recreational vehicles, individually owned and managed.

The Perfect Saugatuck Oasis!

  • 5 of 5

I recently stayed here with 11 of my girlfriends for a long weekend and the house was PERFECT! I can't say enough about it--Aaron has thought of every little detail to make the house feel cozy and accommodating. The house and backyard are so amazing we actually never went to the lake! I would say the only downside is the house is on a country road so walking to town after dark made us a little hesitant because there are no sidewalks. Other than that there is absolutely nothing we would change about AG! We will definitely rent from Aaron again.

I Day Dream about Returning to Allegan Gardens....

  • 5 of 5

I'm almost scared to tell the world about our new favorite place in Michigan because when the secret gets out, I'll never be able to book our vacation here!

We spent the week here with two adults and two kids (16 & 20 year olds). The house and the entire set-up including the backyard, the landscaping, the pool, everything was just awesome. Maybe it's because I have a similar decorating style I just felt so at home but my biggest fear was absolved the moment I walked in the door.

Im super picky and a little weird about other people's places. I did NOT want to feel like a guest and be uncomfortable all week, but yet I also didnt want the place too feel too "lived in" where I might be grossed out by other people's bedrooms, kitchen, etc...

I know it sounds crazy but from the minute we walked in and I smelled the most wonderful smell like when I stay at the W Hotels in NY where their lobby smells tantalizing--that's exactly how I felt. I laughed to see it was just a Glade Plug-in but it smelled amazing!! (something else Im a little neurotic about--weird smells.)

The pool was clean, warm (heated) and the yard was gorgeous...I wish I could post pics from our stay here just for back-up because it was just so cool. The fire pit was away from the main deck which I loved. The backyard was completely fenced in and pretty large so it was the greatest gift we ever could have given our dog who came with us...he doesn't have a fenced in yard at home so this just alleviated so many potential headaches.

The bedrooms were impeccably clean and the mattresses and linens were excellent (ANOTHER thing I'm pretty picky

The kitchen was stellar and we cooked almost every meal there in order to save money. Plus we loved the HUGE dining room table. It just made it so much fun.

I kept thinking the whole time that I couldn't wait to write the review because Aaron was so cool to work with and responded to me immediately whenever I had a question. He never made me feel funny for bugging him a few times because I wanted to know a couple facts about the place.

I also kept thinking that if I dont say something as constructive criticism in my review that people might not believe me, but there really wasnt ANYTHING that was a problem.

If I had to mention a couple things that I wish were different it would only be that I wish we had negotiated a check out later than 11am because we didnt want to leave.

Perfect Friends Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Every winter our group of college friends reunite for a weekend getaway and formal dinner. This year we had one of our larger groups with 10 adults and we choose Allegan Gardens because of the great central location for Detroiters and Chicagoans, the fact that it had 4 queen beds, and the great off-season rates. We were blown away by how well kept the house was, it was perfectly decorated straight out of a magazine! The pictures do not do this place justice for how spacious the main floor of the house was. There was plenty of room for us all to relax and play games in the living room and we found some extra chairs that fit the giant dining room table for all 10 of us to eat. Most of our trip was spent around the house and we never felt too cramped. The kitchen has pretty much any cooking utensil you could think of and so many spices which was a nice surprise. I was a bit concerned about their being only 1 shower in the main house but it actually ended up working out fine and wasn’t an issue at all. The downtown area is a short walk away and the Saugatuck Brewery is just a short car ride and had a great beer tour. We will definitely be back and we could only imagine how great this house would be once summer rolls around!
