Wonderful Flat

This is a wonderful flat in a quiet village right on the Icelandic coast. Several must-see sights are within easy driving distance. The owners are very accommodating and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and would gladly book with them again.

The stay was very enjoyable, but the listing was not accurate. The photo used for the room with the twin bed was misleading. The host used a photo of the master bedroom. The room was small, was not well lit, and got very warm in the evening with the door closed

Family Vacation to Iceland

We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful apartment. Unfortunately the weather was terrible and we couldn't use the balcony. The apartment was very clean and comfortable. The owner was extremely kind and personable. Highly recommend!

Had a Great Time in Iceland

Our family had a great time in Iceland. Stokkseyri is a quaint little village on the coast and Johanna's flat was the perfect fit for our family. It was our home base as we explored the Golden Circle, west to the volcano and east to Vik and beyond. Johanna is very kind and hospitable. She is eager to meet your needs with clean towels, linens and even a needle and thread (my son ripped his pants while hiking). The flat has all the amenities, with a well stocked kitchen that has all of the tools you could need. The balcony overlooks a soccer field where you can even catch a match or two at the right time of year. We had a great time in Iceland and hope to make it back some day to explore the northern part of the country.

Great stay!

Johanna is a wonderful host. She communicated with us several times prior to our trip and gave us detailed directions to reach the flat. She met us outside when we arrived. She was willing to accommodate our potential travel glitch and was very kind. The flat is beautiful and has everything needed for a comfortable stay for 5-6 people. The views from the balcony are lovely. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is fully stocked with cooking supplies. The heated tile floors in the bathroom are great! There was plenty of water and the shower had excellent water pressure. The art decorating the flat is beautiful and adds a touch of elegance. The only minor negative is that the appliances are ancient, but they work well and do the job. It was really nice to have coffee and tea already available, to start the day off right! Stokkseyri is a small town with no grocery store and few restaurants. The closest stores are in Selfoss about 7 km away, so plan ahead. The flat was a great launching point for the major attractions in south Iceland. Onsite parking for our rental car was also a big plus. The waterfront is nearby but we didn't take advantage of that. Kayaking is available too. Johanna went out of her way to look for sports bars for us to watch the Euro 2020 final, which was very kind of her. Overall we had a wonderful stay, and would choose to stay again if we come back to the area.

Beautiful beach location

This house was perfect for our family of four! My kids loved walking on the beach every day and we were in close driving distance to everything we wanted to see in the South. I miss the views already!

Beautiful, clean, comfortable!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Everything was clean, well decorated, and the beds were just what we needed after an overnight flight. The kitchen was well stocked with kitchen tools so we cook dinner at the apartment. The hot tub was an added bonus to relax in the evening. Would definitely recommend to future travelers!

Very spacious, well stocked, clean apartment. The deco was great, hostess with good directions, quick responses. Small, quaint town with short walk to the water. Would have loved more time there to enjoy the hot tub and nice deck but our travel itinerary was too busy! Would highly recommend.

Jóhanna and Stefán are the owners of Guesthouse Kvöldstjarnan. We enjoy our new lifestyle, living in a small, peaceful fishing village, only 60 km away from Reykjavík. We love to travel and we also like to meet people from all over the world. We moved from Reykjavík where we have lived most of our life, apart from few years Jóhanna lived in Denmark and Stefán in England, Germany and Denmark.

Stokkseyri is a quiet and beautiful ex-fishing village by the south coast of Iceland with only 535 inhabitants. The village, which is part of Árborg municipality, is a little more than 60 km away from Reykjavik (50 minutes’ drive) and ideally situated for day trips to all the major places of natural beauty in the Southern Region such as Þingvellir, Gullfoss, Geysir, and Seljalandsfoss - a must see for everyone visiting Iceland.
Stokkseyri is known for its diverse birdlife and magnificent and beautiful shore typically characterised by alternating rocks and rapids, surrounded by back waters with thick shell sand bottom creating the habitat of various shellfish, conchs and crustacean.
Arts and culture thrive and workshops, studios, galleries and museums are found in many places, besides local handicrafts. For example, the Hunting Museum displays stuffed animals from all over the world, original and interesting stories of ghosts are being told at the Ghost Centre, and the Icelandic Wonders Museum, dedicated to Elves, Trolls and the Northern Lights, gives a glimpse of how elves and the hidden people lived.
Þuríðarbúð - the winter fishing hut of Þuríður Einarsdóttir (b. 1777, d. 1863), one of Iceland’s greatest fishing captains, or foremen, and notably a woman - has been reconstructed and turned into a museum. It represents well the housing conditions of men who went to sea to fish in previous ages. East of Stokkseyri is Knarrarósviti, the first reinforced concrete lighthouse in Iceland (built between 1938 and 1939) and the tallest building in the Southern Region. Close to the lighthouse is an old Creamery by Baugsstaðir farm, a local museum exhibiting outdated dairying equipment.
The much celebrated lobster restaurant Fjöruborðið (e. the Foreshore) is located in Stokkseyri, almost a stone’s throw away from the flat and a small store (selling bread, cheese, butter etc.) is also within walking distance. Various services are available in Selfoss town, 13 km away (10 m
