About Jillian/ Juliana

I am a monumental sculptor and Roni is a structural engineer. The pair of us designed and built this custom home. It all started brainstorming with a pad of paper and some local colored pencils!

Jillian/ Juliana purchased this house in 2007

Why Jillian/ Juliana chose Bastimento

We stumbled onto Bocas Del Toro, backpacking through central America: puddle jumper style. But once we landed, we didn't leave. The islands are breathtaking. The people are healthy, fun and speak multiple languages fluently; including English, Spanish, Guari Guari, and Local tribal languages too. Bastimentos Island is calm, local, and there are no cars! It is paradise, plain and simple.

What makes this house unique

We designed and built this unique house. It is a family style open floor plan with handmade moveable privacy screens throughout. The entire front of the home is a glass rotating wall overlooking the ocean. We even designed and built most of the furniture in the home from scratch! Here is a list of this homes amenities:

We just replaced the entire roof and added ceiling fans too! :)

Full kitchen (Gas stove w/overhead vent+fridge+cooking ware).

Dual Shower Natural Stone Bathroom including a Rock formed sink.

Lots of sleeping spots+ (Two queens, One full futon, & Two singles via bunkbeds) and 3 hanging hammocks to enjoy!

Kitchen, dinning and living room overlooking the ocean.

SUP Paddle Board available to cruise the islands. Plus we have two guest surf boards to go hit the breaks! Yes! We let you borrow our toys to enjoy the amazing ocean out front!!

Full Wrap around House Deck and a lower lounging deck.

Caretaker on site.

Maid service every Monday (for long term guests) or in-between the short stays.. To clean the casa and launder the sheets and towels.

Additional Information:

This listing is a full house rental. Max of 6 people due to rain water limitations. Caretaker is on site to aid with all your needs during your stay. Property is 1/4 acre with 250 feet of oceanfront. Caretaker will meet you at Island of Bastimentos Park for ease of check in.

Beautiful house in stunning setting

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of renting this house in April. Every morning waking up to the view was by far the best part! We would literally sit on the deck for hours watching the palm trees sway and the waves crash. The house is unique in that is is pretty much an open floor plan. We also loved the design features such as the circular double doors, the glass front and the amazing stone shower! The house is furnished very well and everything is new. We also loved Bastimentos. The locals couldn't be friendlier and we loved playing with the kids on the path. Bastimentos has a true island feel and we loved the culture and being in the middle of it all. A plus for the property is that it is located on the ocean side, making it significantly cooler than in Old Bank, just around the corner. The breeze was a god send on those hot island days. There are also a ton of activities on Basti. We especially thought the Bat Caves was a different experience that was super fun! There are good restaurants near the property which we also enjoyed so we didn't trek into Bocas Town as much as we originally thought we would. Roots has local seafood, Bushman's Kitchen does a great pizza and the B&B next door, The Firefly had the best food on the island, probably even in Bocas! We frequented their bar stools for drinks several nights. All in all a great vacation and we would love to rent the house again with a few friends! Thanks so much for creating a gorgeous place!

a quick stop in Bastimentos

  • 5 of 5

Great amenities. There is a guitar, bass, and ukulele in the house. The kitchen is stocked pretty well... we cooked most of our meals. The house has a stand up paddle board that we took out every morning. Great location close to town but still secluded on beach. It is situated nicely facing the ocean with a steady breeze. We could've stayed for months and still not seen everything.

What a Beautiful House!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I just spend two weeks on the Island of Bastimentos. For the second week we rented the Shore Break House! I am so so glad we did. The house is perfect! Sleeping at night hearing the waves crash, having access the beautiful views of the ocean and being a short boat ride away from Bocas was exactly what we wanted. Bomby was so wonderful and very helpful. He joined us a couple nights when we cooked dinner. The town of Bastimentos is a special places. I loved watching the island come alive as you walk down the side walks. I recommend this place to anyone who does not want to be right in the action of Bocas but close enough to experience it and then leave at night or anyone who loves to cook! We cooked out on their grill almost every night. They also have a wonderfully equipped kitchen. It was wonderful to buy super fresh seafood and cook it immediately. Great place and I hope to return!

Not good for family with kids!!

  • 1 of 5

We Just got back from staying in this house for a week. Our first reaction was beautiful setting and it really is. I loved drinking coffee on the porch every morning and there is enough space to do yoga. There is only 1 small table and 2 chairs on the porch so if you have more then 2 people with you, you have to bring out chairs from the kitchen. The whole house is open floor plan with no doors except on the bathroom. Our friends have a toddler almost 2 and it was really rough. I would not stay here if you have children. The water is just a few steps away but there are rocks and urchins that sting when you step on them so very unsafe. The house was very dirty when got there. I had to wash all dishes before using them due to the dust all over them. Due to the humidity in the air the floor always feels dirty so we never took off our flip flops while in the house. The windows on the top did not open so in the evening once we went to sleep we were not able to have fresh air. They do have fans which helped keep us cool. The locals on the island love to party, we had 4 out of 7 sleepless nights due to loud music all night long. Just know you do not flush toilet paper in the toilet you have to throw it in the trash can. The water pump started to go out on the last 2 days so we were stranded half way through showers for 5 min until the pump kick on again. There was old food left in the fridge when we got there that I had to through out. If I was the owner I would have the cleaning lady come before visitors are staying and freshen everything up. The towels are very smelly due to the detergent and mustiness. It is a tropical island and I understand the humidity is very high and would be hard to dry clothes on the lines. Also due to humidity the couch was very moldy smelly. Just beware there are little biting gnats that make your stay very itchy. Our water taxi guy Karl was great and took us anywhere we wanted to go. I really recommend using him if you stay on the island. Oh the internet stick cost $5 for the week but never worked so I had to go to Bocas to use the internet which was a problem. Over all we will never go back. We are not picky people and have traveled to a lot of south and central America countries so we know about the tropics this house just isn't worth the money. Our friend tried to surf but there are so many rocks that it was unsafe. I love paddle boarding and was excited to board but due to so many rocks I just didn't want to try.

Owner's Response: This is our first group in which our staff requested to never allow a return visit. Our maid of two years quit our service after this group departed. The concept of "green" and "rain water dependent" was obviously a foreign concept to this group. They demanded all the beds linens be changed every single day and they soiled over a dozen towels each day. Maid service is provided only once a week with rentals and in between each guest. Our water tanks simply can not handle this extreme use. They also had our caretaker running toiletry errands for them by the china store. Yet, they never paid for their items or their extra maid/laundry services. Even the restaurants and local businesses' had stories to share regarding their disrespectful ways. Homeowners please be cautious in opening up your private home to people who surely require the staff of a hotel at their beckon call.

Awesome House For A Girls Trip Getaway!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Three of my best girlfriends and myself rented this house for a week. We had the best time ever, based on the reviews, we went to the 99 Supermarket in Panama City before we boarded our flight and bought tons of alcohol, food, and candles to bring to the house. We met Bombi once we arrived on the island and a man with a wheelbarrow took all of our luggage to the house for us. Once we ascended the stairs to the top deck of the house, the true fun began!!!! Crazy ocean views from every part of the house, Bob Marley playing on the stereo, the most comfortable beds we had since back home, a full kitchen with everything you needed!!!! The bathroom is awesome, a rock shower with dual shower heads and hot hot water all the time. The owners were available via phone and text to help me with anything I needed!!! The house is close to everything and we found ourselves making quick trips to the restaurants Caribbean View and Roots all the time!!!! Bombi was able to get us reservations at the Firefly for our last night and we had a great dinner. Everyone on the islands knows of the Shorebreak House and it is probably the best constructed house on the island!!!!!!!
