About the property

4 Bedrooms 2 Baths With Solid Bamboo Floors-Single Level

We are a legally permitted 4 bedroom short term rental house! Permit #LU 15-267213 CU. We are a registered business with, and pay lodging tax to, the City of Portland (TaySoif LLC). If your booking is on a weekend, please stay four nights.

The four bedroom two bath main house is for guests; we have a tenant in an apartment upstairs which has its own entry and deck.

The perfect house for family or friends, centrally located in the perfect Portland neighborhood. Diverse, rich in culture, excellent food and drink, on transit lines and totally walkable, you won't even need a car we have two or three (single file) off-street parking spaces if you do.

You may not host events including more than twelve people here. Quiet hours must be observed. Please be friendly, it's a friendly street. Our tenant manager lives in a separate apartment above the house, and she has accepted the responsibility to monitor the quiet hours (10PM to 8AM) and occupancy rules.

Awesome clean beds and pillows, and a clean, comfortable, well appointed, great-smelling house in a vibrant neighborhood. Central air! We LOVE to make our guests have the vacation or short term stay they want.

We may negotiate rates if certain dates are not booked, or for a smaller party (1 or 2 people)

This is an urban neighborhood. It's diverse. Most, but not all, of the houses have been restored. You may encounter a panhandler or people with petitions. If these things alarm you, it's not for you. You may want to look in Irvington or in the suburbs. For us, there's everything to love about the Alberta Arts district. Creative and cool, friendly neighbors, fabulous food, flat, walkable, and bikeable. We have Alberta's 'Last Thursday': the divine arts fair on the last Thursday of every warm month, when they close the whole street and the artsy spirit of PDX is in full bloom... Fall in love with Portland here.

We restored this 1970's ranch in 2013 (and again this year when we built the apartment) to give it a geometric, clean, inviting style. Quiet, solid bamboo floors run throughout the house, and every appliance is Energy Star, all the bulbs are LED. It's super private, and the living/outdoor spaces do not intersect with the upstairs tenant's area at all. The front porch is a great place to watch the neighborhood walk by, and the big back yard has a beautiful gazebo with two couches and dining table with umbrella. All for you.

Free wifi.Comcast cable, Netflix. Fully equipped kitchen with such staples as sugar, spices, and oil, cleaning supplies, paper towels, napkins. A private code for each party in the internet-controlled locks. Two bikes with helmets and locks. A charcoal barbecue grill.

It's SUPER important that you realize how much we value the quiet and peace of our neighbors, did I mention that? We understand that you may be on vacation, but they are not. You are their guests in their neighborhood, too.

Public transit is just half a block away!

About Amy Taylor

Hi, I'm Amy. We've been in Oregon 20 years and we love it! We live in a suburb just south of Portland. We bought this house in 2011, gutted it, outfitted it with the greenest solutions we could (solid bamboo floors with a quiet layer of insulation underneath, Energy Star heat and A/C, high efficiency appliances. We love to spend the night here too!

Amy Taylor purchased this house in 2011

Why Amy Taylor chose Portland

If you know Portland, you know this is the spot. It's diverse, colorful, safe, friendly and fun. You can walk to either corner in the morning for an awesome cup from Fuel Cafe or Extracto, spend a great day in and around Portland, and at night, amble home from the Tin Shed or any number of other establishments within walking distance.

What makes this house unique

We chose this property for its location. It would be hard to find a better one. You can walk to everything, from great food and groceries, to shopping, to public transit. The house is not grand, or deluxe, but it is super inviting with its clean lines and beautiful finishes...the wood floors, the good beds, the open kitchen/living area, which is perfect for groups. We followed that aesthetic in remodeling the front patio with its geometric blue stone and granite path and patio, and a pergola. The front porch and the back yard, weather permitting, are great places to enjoy. The back yard is landscaped with a covered gazebo for those warm months when you'll appreciate the shade. The tenant's upstairs apartment does not intersect with your living space at all.

Wonderful Thanksgiving week

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving week at this roomy house in the Alberta Arts area. The house is less than a block to Alberta Street and not much farther over to Prescott, so there is an abundance of restaurants, coffee spots, and shopping to walk to. The Mississippi area is a short drive away and lots of fun as well. The house is very well outfitted, and Amy supplies basics that make family living very convenient. Even with so many restaurants steps away, we found ourselves loving the together time of preparing our own meals in the well-appointed kitchen and very much appreciated the variety of pots and pans and plenty of dishware. Also, the spacious living rooms and bedrooms are comfortable and supplied with everything one would need. Great place!

Owner's Response: Thank you! I'm so happy that your Thanksgiving family get together was a success. You're right, there are so many restaurants, bars, and shops around there, I haven't even been to them all. And new ones pop up every month. Hope to see you on future trips to Portland.

Great place for 5+ in Alberta district, rain or shine. Bikes were a bonus!

  • 5 of 5

The house was wonderful. It's easy to find, less than a block from the main row of eateries, cafes and shops on Alberta street. The NorthEast is a less hectic version of Portland with loads of its own options -- we went SouthEast for Pok Pok on Division only to realize that they have a location less than two blocks away from the house! It's exceptionally clean and cozy. The house has four rooms (one with two twin beds), so it's ideal for 5 singles and more if there are couples in the mix (up to the max in the listing). All modern conveniences included, like great heating, dishwasher, loads of dishes, brand new washer&dryer and fridge. The backyard with covered patio set would have been fine even during the wet season, but we had too much on our agenda to make use of it.

We lucked out on the weather, which was predicted for rain off and on but actually included glorious blue skies after morning mist -- so two of us were able to make use of the included pair of beach cruiser bikes (complete with backpedal brakes, taking me back to kid days) and roam surrounding neighborhoods (the tire pump was difficult to figure but there's a local community bike shop up the main drag for air). It's remarkable how many options on Mississippi, Williams or MLK are within a ten-minute bike ride away. Too many to try in one visit!

Thanks for hosting our group, Amy!

Super Location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay; the location of this cute house is perfect for walking to some of the greatest little restaurants and a wonderful co-op grocery store. Our favorite place was The Bye and Bye, even the carnivores adored their selections and the creative drinks are fabulous! (The frozen carrot, black-pepper margarita was AMAZING!)

The house is nicely set up for socializing, love the kitchen island and really enjoyed the mornings sipping coffee in the back yard on the canopied patio. Will definitely want to stay there again!

Perfect fit for a family

  • 5 of 5

Our family of seven including two grandparents, three adults, and two toddlers enjoyed the house and its amenities for a great stay in Portland. All was as described in the listing, and the children really enjoyed the toys and the outside play space. We had two cars available for exploring Portland (OMSI, Children's Museum, and Zoo for children), and Alberta Street was fun for browsing, shopping, and eating (the Tin Shed, La Petite Provence, food trucks, and Salt and Straw were all good, as were meals ordered and delivered through Full Belly). Amy was a great host, providing many nice touches such as a welcoming bag of coffee beans to get our morning started and a bottle of wine to add to an evening celebration. She was easy to contact for questions and even found and mailed a camera charger left at the house. I would recommend this house to anyone who is looking for a comfortable home away from home in a somewhat "crunchy" neighborhood (think Portlandia).

Owner's Response: Thank you Anne, and I'm glad you got your charger! Great info on what to do with kids in PDX....I spent years at OMSI when mine were little. And seeing a movie there on the giant screen is great, and not more expensive than a theater. We hope to welcome you back in the future!

"How did you find this place, blind luck?"

  • 5 of 5

That is what my Portland friend asked me when she drove down to meet us. We, too, were thrilled. The Alberta Arts house was so much more then the description.

We descended on Amy several hours early, but she was kind in asking us to hold off so the house could be perfect when we started our weekend. Chilling on the front porch and at the Alberta Street Coop was not a chore at all. The house was spotless (worth waiting for), cleaned with fragrance free organic cleaners.- Hurray!

At the assigned time my family (64,57,30, 28, 27, 26, 6, 14m and 12 months) entered for the weekend. Leaving intense work lives behind our family was ready to play! Bedrooms and crib assigned we hit Alberta street and the coop. We spent the first evening walking down the street to “Last Thursday” activities. Returning the one block to the house the babies were asleep by 8 leaving the two younger couples to enjoy themselves, by foot, at one of the many night establishments while Nana and Papa enjoyed a glass of wine in the back yard, what else could we ask for?

We had been traveling for a week, but all slept well on the very comfortable beds (including the futon). The rooms were spacious enough to have suitcases unloaded (a must with babies). The toys ranged from stacking cups to Legos. We don't know what the TV was like, we did not have time. We did connect our phones for Pandora to the speaker system. All of us have ordered the soap in the bathroom for our own houses.

We spent time plucking plums and blueberries for morning breakfast (wish we could have enjoyed those grapes!) We did not have one bad meal- the Hibiscus, La Provence http://provencepdx.com, the Tin Shed and street food were all fun, We were delighted at how family friendly the entire street was. We shopped, we played games, babies splashed in the pool, we read, we talked until three am and yes, we did attend my nephew’s wedding (the reason for the trip).

We have decided we will try the beach house next time, if Amy will have us back.

Owner's Response: Oh my Jan, thank you so much for that review! We have been moving house and somehow i missed commenting on it. The grapes are wonderfully ripe now, and we would absolutely love to have you at the beach house next time :)

Belong to A Fabulous Neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

Our family met in Portland to celebrate a birthday (86th), a graduation (Ducks) and as it turned out several winning efforts by our favorite sports teams (Kings, FIFA, Mariners). Our home base was Amy's perfectly accommodating single floor residence. What an easy place to live for almost a week. Alberta Arts district is close to downtown, and all points out of town (coast, Eugene, Seattle, airport). We played a game in the car jotting notes as to why this was such a lovely place to stay. Here are some of our notes: Fresh flowers - not horrible fake flowers that are very typical in some rental properties; room for everyone - 5/6 of us; lightbulbs and lamps working - providing excellent illumination (not always true in rental properties); living room fun to hang out in and watch sporting activities; kitchen has everything necessary and an island for all to gather and munch; the outdoors area was lovely - but it rained too much for us to enjoy; walking distance to grocery, restaurants, best ice cream in the world, three yoga studios, bars, pubs and cool shops; fantastic neighborhood gardens, home was spotless, towels overflowed the closets, nice organic sweet smelly soap/wash/shampoo in each bathroom... Thank you Amy - our stay was perfect!

Owner's Response: Wow Emily, thank you so much. I don't know what to add to this except that it was great meeting you, and do come back! (When it's not raining).
