This simple studio style cabin is situated on a quiet rural road in a wooded setting on the owner’s property. A covered porch offers the opportunity to relax outdoors. Bring your bike or walking shoes to enjoy getting out on the long level road that was once the trolley line for the Buena Vista Springs Hotel. Deer, turkey, and small wildlife are regularly seen in the surrounding area. The cabin provides a getaway for reading, writing, or resting in a peaceful setting which invites relaxation.
The Appalachian Trail is only minutes from the cabin, where you can day hike to nearby parks or refresh and resupply on a longer trail journey. Your stay here makes for easy visits to historic Civil War sites including Gettysburg, Antietam, South Mountain, & Monterey Battlefields. The cabin can be your home away from home for trips to many attractions within an easy days travel including Harpers Ferry, Lancaster Amish Country, Hershey, Baltimore, & Washington DC. Visitors can also enjoy a wide variety of local attractions including winery tours, events at Ski Liberty and Whitetail or local history.
At the end of your day return home and enjoy a simple floor plan that includes a dining/living area, 2 bedrooms: 1 with a double bed and the other with either a king bed or 2 twin bed arrangement, 1 ½ baths (shower only), covered porch, and fully equipped kitchen. The cabin offers simplicity for your time away from the everyday.
This is the second time I've stayed at the cabin, this time for my honeymoon with my husband. Words can't describe how wonderful this place is and how exceptional the owners are regarding the concerns of the guests. When we walked in Christy and Rich had set flowers for us on the dining table as well as the desk in the bedroom! It was so thoughtful of them to do that for our honeymoon.
For the actual look of the place, the pictures just don't do enough--you've really got to see it. The wooden paneling (cedar?) looks beautiful. I personally like the rooms upstairs the best. My favorite thing to do is lie on the bed and listen to the wind--for some reason you can hear it so well up there; and it can be just a slight breeze, you can still hear it. Very relaxing. There's also a back porch so you can sit out and enjoy the wooded scenery. The cabin is also situated in a strikingly beautiful area of the South Mountain range; just driving around the area you have some breath-taking views.
The cabin is very close to the Appalachian trail, about a 10 minute walk down the road; for day-hikers, it is also convenient to a great many trail-heads along that trail which are all within like a 10 or 15 minute drive (with parking at them). There's also a lot of battlefields within driving distance--Gettysburg is the closest, but Sharpsburg, South Mountain, Harpers Ferry and Monocacy are not too far.
When I left, I was in a hurry to leave since I had to go to work that morning (we live close by), and I left my favorite pillow behind. Christy was so kind to get it for me so it wasn't lost for good! I can't thank her enough since it's the like the most comfortable pillow in the world! You really can't find a better rental place like this in the area and definitely not ones that have such caring and thoughtful owners as Rich and Christy--they really go out of their way for their guests.
Thanks so, so much for the wonderful stay! We hope to return every year or so, as much as our schedules will allow!
We stayed at the cottage 10/28/16 to 10/30/16. We had a nice time. The cottage was comfortable, the beds were great. We sat on the back porch during the sunset. We were able to visit some area attractions and eat at 2 nice restaurants. The McClellan's did a nice job building this cottage. It is in a rural area, but still close to the attractions. We would like to come back in the future.
We loved the area of the home, as we are outdoors kinda people. Very close to a lot of things we were in the area to do. Relaxed and enjoyed nature, even caught a glimpse of a few deer. We would love to return in the near future. Maybe when we return it won't be during a drought, so we can enjoy sitting around a small fire. Thank you Rich & Christy for having such a nice place to stay and all the little extra touches.
The cottage is very cute, clean and well maintained. It's built into a garage but the pictures don't lie, it was very homey. It is set back on the property and if you wanted to be left alone it's a god spot. The grounds (view) out the back leave a bit to be desired. There were a god deal of dead limbs and fallen trees that presented an unkempt appearance. The front of the buildings driving in in contrast was very well maintained. The hosts were great! Anything we needed they were available and that was all we heard of them. They new we would be arriving late, left the lights on for us and stocked some light breakfast items so we didn't have to run right out. Close to the Appalachian trail and close enough to Gettysburg. Two words though, "Fire Pit." we probably could have helped with all that dead wood out back if there was one. All in all, this fit the bill and the owners and the cottage itself made up for the shortcomings. Give us a call when you get that fire ring :)
The cottage was clean and well furnished. Not a bad commute to Gettysburg battlefield. For the money, I felt it was a good value.
This tiny but well-managed rental was quiet and relaxing, yet close enough to connecting roads to allow quick trips out. We wanted to decompress, so we did little exploring. We enjoyed the extras the owners provided in the kitchen and although we did not cook, we certainly could have. The high point was actually the second floor back bedroom, where we were able to listen to deer carefully picking their way through the woods during the night. The sparrow that visited the hanging fern on the back deck, as well as the chipmunk who camped outside the kitchen window, both added to the feeling of no responsibilities for 2 whole days. Two toilets, parking close to the front door and no one to interrupt our solitude. What more can you ask for when you want to be alone!! :)
