Great location, lovely cabin

  • 5 of 5

This was the first time we rented this cabin and we agree with all the positive reviews it has received. We are a family of four with two children and we all adored the place. The cabin is set in a wooden area with enough outdoor space for the kids to run around and explore by themselves. The cabin itself is exceptionally comfortable and the distribution is well thought. We could cook with comfort and had everything we needed to prepare meals. It receives plenty of natural light even on a cloudy winter day, which helps make it even more welcoming.

The house was very clean and not a thing was out of place. There are board games to keep the kids entertained and the rooms upstairs, together with the views, just ignited their imagination.

The location was excellent (we did not want to use the car to go hiking). The Appalachian Trail is a 10 min walk away, and you can hike to the Mason-Dixon line and Pen-Mar park. The hike, crossing a creek, is very pretty, and was fun for the kids and adults alike. The children loved leaving messages in the Mason-Dixon notebook. The second day we drove to the Pen-Mar Park and hiked further south, to the High Rock Point.Running on the paved road was easy, since it is not a busy area and offers nice views of the valley below.

Despite the feeling of being away from everything, there are many stores nearby and the internet works great.

We arrived late and Christy was so kind to leave muffins, eggs, butter and other items for us in the fridge. This was tremendous help!

There are many things we did not have time to do while visiting the area and we really hope to go back soon. Thanks Christy and Rich for your hospitality.

Peaceful woodland retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time I've stayed at the cabin, this time for my honeymoon with my husband. Words can't describe how wonderful this place is and how exceptional the owners are regarding the concerns of the guests. When we walked in Christy and Rich had set flowers for us on the dining table as well as the desk in the bedroom! It was so thoughtful of them to do that for our honeymoon.

For the actual look of the place, the pictures just don't do enough--you've really got to see it. The wooden paneling (cedar?) looks beautiful. I personally like the rooms upstairs the best. My favorite thing to do is lie on the bed and listen to the wind--for some reason you can hear it so well up there; and it can be just a slight breeze, you can still hear it. Very relaxing. There's also a back porch so you can sit out and enjoy the wooded scenery. The cabin is also situated in a strikingly beautiful area of the South Mountain range; just driving around the area you have some breath-taking views.

The cabin is very close to the Appalachian trail, about a 10 minute walk down the road; for day-hikers, it is also convenient to a great many trail-heads along that trail which are all within like a 10 or 15 minute drive (with parking at them). There's also a lot of battlefields within driving distance--Gettysburg is the closest, but Sharpsburg, South Mountain, Harpers Ferry and Monocacy are not too far.

When I left, I was in a hurry to leave since I had to go to work that morning (we live close by), and I left my favorite pillow behind. Christy was so kind to get it for me so it wasn't lost for good! I can't thank her enough since it's the like the most comfortable pillow in the world! You really can't find a better rental place like this in the area and definitely not ones that have such caring and thoughtful owners as Rich and Christy--they really go out of their way for their guests.

Thanks so, so much for the wonderful stay! We hope to return every year or so, as much as our schedules will allow!

Songwoods Cottage.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the cottage 10/28/16 to 10/30/16. We had a nice time. The cottage was comfortable, the beds were great. We sat on the back porch during the sunset. We were able to visit some area attractions and eat at 2 nice restaurants. The McClellan's did a nice job building this cottage. It is in a rural area, but still close to the attractions. We would like to come back in the future.

Songwoods cabin was better than we expected.

  • 5 of 5

We loved the area of the home, as we are outdoors kinda people. Very close to a lot of things we were in the area to do. Relaxed and enjoyed nature, even caught a glimpse of a few deer. We would love to return in the near future. Maybe when we return it won't be during a drought, so we can enjoy sitting around a small fire. Thank you Rich & Christy for having such a nice place to stay and all the little extra touches.

Cute and Quiet

  • 3 of 5

The cottage is very cute, clean and well maintained. It's built into a garage but the pictures don't lie, it was very homey. It is set back on the property and if you wanted to be left alone it's a god spot. The grounds (view) out the back leave a bit to be desired. There were a god deal of dead limbs and fallen trees that presented an unkempt appearance. The front of the buildings driving in in contrast was very well maintained. The hosts were great! Anything we needed they were available and that was all we heard of them. They new we would be arriving late, left the lights on for us and stocked some light breakfast items so we didn't have to run right out. Close to the Appalachian trail and close enough to Gettysburg. Two words though, "Fire Pit." we probably could have helped with all that dead wood out back if there was one. All in all, this fit the bill and the owners and the cottage itself made up for the shortcomings. Give us a call when you get that fire ring :)

Nice pleasant stay

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was clean and well furnished. Not a bad commute to Gettysburg battlefield. For the money, I felt it was a good value.
