About John Oelsner

Of Canadian heritage we now live in New Orleans where we own and operate an 'Anytime Fitness' franchise. A few times each year (often surrounding hurricane warnings) we hop in our car and drive 11 hours to regroup in Melbourne Beach. Aquarina is a special place that stole our hearts while visiting family there. Whether it's summer, winter spring or fall there is always special things to do and see and just sitting around the pool in that beautiful setting revitalizes us and restores our fascination with nature and wildlife.

John Oelsner purchased this villa in 2012

Why John Oelsner chose Florida

The grounds of Aquarina are beautiful and everything is immaculately kept. The home, the pool, the casita, the people who live and vacation there, all make it a comfortable, fun environment. We can golf, play tennis, go fishing, go for a workout in the gym and then walk to one of the nicest beaches in Florida. We watch manatees swim not 10 feet from the dock, see sea turtles mating in the ocean, search for washed up treasure as we walk for miles on unspoiled, undeveloped beach front and then buy some of the freshest seafood in the world, take it home and grill it to perfection while enjoying a tall cocktail poolside. What's not to love.

What makes this villa unique

The manatees did it for me. The sea turtles did it for my wife. My best friend wanted to spend all his time poolside while his wife was stuck on the beach. My father in law golfs every day, his wife plays tennis, we all go biking and at night lounge around the pool, listen to music and finally retire to very separate, private sleeping areas.

Perfect home base for outdoor adventures!

  • 5 of 5

A well laid out home with pool and private casita to relax after a day of playing in the sun! One minute walk to the Grille, three minutes to the tennis club, five minutes to the ocean and private beach club! We biked for miles exploring the barrier island; Sebastian Inlet, Indian River, ecological reserves, turtle habitats. So much wildlife to see just around Aquarina! Quick drive into Melbourne for shopping and dining. Really enjoyed this clean and well maintained home base, thanks John!

Great house. Clean. Beautiful. Nice private pool. Well stocked kitchen, beach chairs, bikes, fishing poles. Wonderful beach access directly across A1A. Tennis/golf in Aquarina. Quiet street.

Great area for bike riding along A1A, but a bit out of the way if you plan to go to Melbourne often, so if you have teenagers, you may want to rent closer north. Still, fantastict place for girls weekend or family who wants to reconnect. My daughter got engaged here on the beach. Lovely.

Owners are very nice and helpful by supplying us with specific directions and instructions.

Glasgow, Scotland

A great place to relax (or not, if you want to!)

  • 5 of 5

This was a combined 40th wedding anniversary and joint retirement 5 week vacation for my wife and I, with our 2 children, their spouses and our 14 year old granddaughter. We had flown 4000 miles from Scotland, so it had to be right. And how right it was! A great, well-equipped house in a superb location (even for a non-golfer like me). Check the photos on the site. They are just what the place looks like. Easy access to the almost deserted beach and to the river. Our son and daughter-in-law met a whole family of Manatees on their first trip on the river in our kayak, and a family of otters on a subsequent trip. Not to mention the turtles! All of the kids made good use of the superb gym in the community centre and my wife cycled down to Sebastian Inlet pretty much every day. I took advantage of the available fishing in the ocean and the river. We also managed a trip to Key West, via Miami Beach, and an airboat ride at Camp Holly on route 192. Arranging the vacation was made easy by the most helpful owner you could wish for. Thanks John!

Ocean,Golf,Tennis,Pool and Comfort of home was excellent. Great Aquarina location.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just completed a month's stay at this lovely villa located in the Aquarina Beach and Country Club. The owner John has gone to great lengths furnishing and equipping his home for your vacation enjoyment from the gas grill to the bikes and fishing gear to the comfortable furniture John has thought about just everything. All of Aquarina is beautifully landscaped and most nights after dinner we would take our nightly walk through the different neighborhoods. As avid golfers and beach goers (I love to body surf) the home is a short walk to the ocean and is also located on the 9th hole of the golf course and in easy walking distance to the Clubhouse. The General Manager and head golf professional Tom could not have make the golf environment more welcoming. Even with my single digit handicap I found the course challenging. After a round of golf we also enjoyed sitting around the private pool area reading or listening to music. Most nights we ate by the pool. We loved this home and hated to leave. John is excellent to work with and provided us a detailed overview of the home which basically answers all of your questions. Thanks John for the great time. We hope to come back soon.

Wonderful house

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from spending 10 weeks in John's wonderful home. The pictures do not do justice to this home. The home has everyone thing you would need. John was easy to work with and was able to answer an questions we had. It is a beautiful area and we did not miss the snowy, cold north. Thanks John for everything.

Owner's Response: You're very kind. Aquarina really is a grand place to winter but almost as popular in the summer. You will always be welcome back.

Great home and location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this wonderful home. The home is beautifully decorated, has a spacious master suite with a split plan and a casita that worked perfectly for our family to meet and enjoy Thanksgiving together in the well equipped kitchen. The pool was great and very private. Fishing in the river and the beach are very close with fishing equipment supplied along with bicycles and other equipment. We saw dolphins and caught a couple fish. The beach was not crowded and is great for long walks. And just to add to the pleasure the house is on the golf course. John is great to work with and was easy to contact.

Melbourne Beach
Car: necessary

Melbourne Beach is not for people who like the crowds and noise of Florida's better known beaches. Although it has beautiful, clean sand it is rustic, has no stip malls, no super busy highways and is

never crowded. Because it is the nesting place for thousands of sea turtles, the beach and its development is very tightly controlled. The surf is often rough which makes for excellent sea shell collecting, surfing and boogie boarding and the beach is alive with wildlife.

From May thru Sept. sea turtles come ashore along our particular stretch of Melbourne Beach to lay their eggs. Tours can be joined through the local Sea Turtle Museum only a mile away. During the day the turtles can be spotted mating in the surf. You will also see dolphins swimming by and can try your hand at surf fishing.

Our stretch of beach is also very popular for artifact hunting as 7 Spanish galleons floundered off our shore many years ago. People still find gold and silver coins and valuable relics from those wrecks. At Sebastian Inlet (5 minutes to the South) there is a museum devoted to these wrecks which has an excellent program with videos explaining when and where the wrecks happened and how and where to look for valuable wreckage.

On the opposite side of our resort from the ocean, lies the Indian River. You can walk to our boat launch, docks and board walk where you will often see manatees leisurely swimming right next to the dock. This is beautiful kayaking territory and small boat fishing. Boat rentals are available nearby.

Inside the resort there is an active tennis community with first rate courts and instruction available. Also, at the tennis club, there is a community center with a well equipped fitness center and its own Personal Trainer.

The executive Par 62 golf course is right out the back door. It is challenging, scenic and can be easily played in just a couple of hours. The club house has an excellent grill. Within 30 minutes there are numerous other courses, most being Par 72.

The Sebastian Bar and Grill has excellent food. It is located right on the beach, has a big open patio and in the evenings provides live entertainment. Just a couple of miles to the South there is a couple of fresh sea food stores where you can also buy those typical household items you often run out of.

The nearest large grocery store - Publix - is 8 minutes North in the town of Melbourne Beach. There are also numerous small restaurants and beach front grills in town but if you want serious shopping you will have to go across the causeway into the town of Melbourne. Just 30 minutes away it has numerous quality restaurants, tons of shops and all the big retailers like Best Buy, Target, Home Depot, etc., etc.. To the South and 30 minutes away is the town of Vero Beach. It is tangibly more upscale than Melbourne and has a lot of expensive galleries and upscale restaurants as well as great shopping for special occasions.
