About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, Sleeps 8

Plan an amazing South Oregon Coast escape anytime of year at this beautiful beachside Florence vacation home! Nestled right amidst the beach grasses overlooking gorgeous Heceta Beach, this three bedroom home offers stunning views, a deck overlooking the sand, and a wonderful solarium for storm watching.

In this lovely home, the solarium is the true star. Taking up the whole west wall of the living room, you'll enjoy a view of the beach that will make you feel like you are right out on the sand! View a chilly sunset or a powerful storm while staying warm and cozy inside. Also in the living room, there are comfortable sofas for relaxing, a wall-mounted, flat screen TV with cable, and ocean-themed art adorning the walls, including a large whale mural.

After a day of beach combing and kite flying, come back to the house for a nice dinner and an evening watching movies, reading, or just playing a group game, while you listen to the waves crash below through the open windows. There's also WiFi for checking emails, doing a little work, or researching restaurant options in the area.

If you do choose to stay in for dinner, you'll have a bright and well-stocked, eat-in kitchen on the main floor for meal preparation. Aside from the appliances you'd expect - stovetop/range, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave - you'll even have a gadgets like a coffee grinder and a French press, so coffee aficionados will feel right at home here! If you don't feel like heading out on a cold windy day in search of the best bowl of clam chowder, just stay in and make your own!

Out on the deck, you can have a seat and watch the waves, have a glass of wine, or share some pictures of beach scenes online to make all your friends jealous. This large deck has room for everyone to find a quiet spot and enjoy one of the best views on the whole Oregon Coast!

When it is time for bed, everyone in your group will have a choice of three rooms, all with a queen bed, and all with their own TV and DVD player. Two bedrooms are on the lower level (below the main floor), and feature deck access and accessories like bedside tables, reading lamps, and cozy bedding. The full bathroom and half bath are also located on this level.

The third bedroom is just upstairs from the living room, and offers a bit more privacy as it's the only bedroom on this upper floor. This home will comfortably sleep eight guests (there is also a queen-sized futon in the living room). Additional amenities include a washer and dryer for guest use, so you'll have no worries about keeping your pant legs out of the surf and your clothes clean as you explore Florence and the coast!

With a location about five miles north of historic downtown Florence, the Heceta Beach area is a quiet little community. There's a large expanse of sandy beach to explore, so bring a kite, your beach ball, and jogging shoes. Besides the natural ocean attractions, if you are looking for a bite out, Surfside Restaurant at Driftwood Shores is a walkable option for a bowl of seafood stew and a classic cocktail.

Also just north of the house, Darlingtonia State Natural Site is an 18-acre botanical garden dedicated to protecting a single plant species - the Darlingtonia californica, also known as the Cobra Lily. This carnivorous plant has purple blooms in the spring and year-round this park offers a unique glimpse of insect-feasting flora, as well as hiking trails, picnic areas, and a boardwalk. After a stop here, keep heading north about 10 miles to the Heceta Head Lighthouse for a tour of this historic site and to take some pictures of one of the most photographed structures on the Oregon Coast.

When you do make the short drive to downtown Florence, you'll find an amazing coffee shop, and plenty of stores and restaurants to occupy your time. The Beachcomber Pub has an impressive beer list, and the popular Waterfront Depot is famous for its for an award-winning plate of crab-encrusted halibut, classic fish and chips, and Cajun fish burgers.

Also nearby you will find the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, and the Siuslaw National Forest. With so many choices, whether you visit this ocean-view Florence vacation rental for a winter weekend of storm watching from the solarium or come in the summer for fun in the sun out on the beach, you'll never run out of things to see and do!

About Vacasa, OR - Oregon Coast Office

Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.

Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.

Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!

Beautiful Location and View

  • 4 of 5

The Location was great. Next to hotel and restaurant. Easy walk to the beach. Loved viewing the ocean from the solarium. With the exception of the dirty windows the home was very clean. The home has been nicely maintained and is in good repair.

Bedding needs to be updated and replaced. The sun from the upstairs bedroom is brutal and should be resolved with blackout curtains. The pots and pans were made of scratched up Teflon. If these items are addressed, I would definitely recommend .

Beautiful Home with Great View and Great Location

  • 4 of 5

The view was exceptional and the location next to the Driftwood Hotel superb. Surfside restaurant is excellent and within walking distance. This home was extremely clean and is worthy of a 5 star rating if it weren't for a few minor things. The pots and pans need to be replaced. Teflon with cuts is not acceptable. Blackout curtains in the top floor bedroom are sorely needed. All the bedding is old and outdated. Comfortable blankets for lounging and more dish towels would be a bonus. Items such as salt and olive oil are not a major cost and most homes have them.

Great & no so Great

  • 4 of 5

The windows make the place. The location and expansive view are the best I've seen. BUT

there are lots of little annoyances. For $200/nite wouldn't you expect there would be tin foil?

How about salt? SALT? More than one garbage bag? Is it too much to ask that the night lights not be burned out? Or that bathroom vanity lights would all be working? How about the motion sensitive night stair lights? The wall heaters do work....but they are either ON or OFF. The thermostats are non functional. Some windows leak and someone even used packing tape to block the airflow in. Two or three deck spindles are just hanging loose and bang

continually in the wind. In sum, it seems that it's a long time since the owners have been there. Don't get me wrong. There is Much that is wonderful about the place. The views really are just as good as pictured. It's just that for the price, the place seems a little tired.

Idyllic stay right by the beach...

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at this property, for us it was only a short stay on our way through and we really wish we would have had more time to spend at this house. It had all the right features, but the view is just absolutely outstanding. There is nothing more relaxing that sipping a cup of tea enjoying that view. Amazing.

Be Surprised

  • 5 of 5

Albeit, arriving at Whale's Crossing for the first time, driving up the somewhat hidden driveway from the road, seeing the house up high amongst the beach grass was a bit concerning at first until we climbed the stairs and went inside. OMG. Beautiful. Just beautiful. Everything was so clean, carpet looked brand new, furniture was new as well and the house smelled clean and fresh inside. Decorated perfectly and very tastefully in our opinion with much though put into every piece. Whale's Crossing appears to be remodeled somewhat recently and what a fantastic job they did especially repurposing that wooden post on the stairway inside. Bravo! And the views. Oh the views were just so spectacular from the solarium and the bedrooms outside deck down below. Great idea for the recliners in the solarium folks. They were our favorite place to hang out, watch the ocean, and people watch on the beach below. We will definitely come back here again. Thank you.

Family Vacation in Florence OR

  • 5 of 5

The rental home is well maintained and very good for a family-style staying. It has a beautiful sunroom & setting overlooking the ocean beaches. This home has everything available so you may feel you're staying in your own home. Next door neighbor is very nice and the surrounding neighborhood is quite and provides lots of privacy. Beach access is within 5-minute walking distance. Supermarket (Fred Meyers) is only 5-minute away from driving. I'd recommend this beautiful rental home to anyone, and my family plans to return to this rental home next Summer.
