This is a real working farm. Morning and evening chores are a great time to get close to the animals. Connect with the owners about shadowing them during these times to learn more about the goings on at the farm.
Guests should be comfortable around large dogs. Our Livestock Guardian Dogs have access to the entire farm 24/7. Barking is a part of their job and this can be anytime day or night. If it becomes too much of a disturbance guests should let us know ASAP so that alternative arrangements can be implemented.
There is more than just alpacas on the property. You’ll find heritage sheep and turkeys, lots of chickens and cats! There are always Livestock Guardian Dogs on Duty 24/7. While the dogs are quite imposing, they are people friendly! Using LGDs is a humane form of predator control. They more than earn their keep by protecting all the critters living on the farm, as well as their humans.
The State Park (Lake Corpus Christi Recreational Area) is located a short drive away. It is a couple of miles as the crow flies. The Bayfront at Corpus Christi is 35 miles from the farm, with the Northwest edge of the city just 26 miles. Padre Island National Seashore is another 25 miles from the city. Other points of interest are the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge (60 miles) and Rockport (50 miles). The King Ranch is 40 miles to the south east. And San Antonio is 90 miles to the North. The farm is only 4 miles from the small town of Mathis and 12 miles from Oranage Grove, Tx. You'll find grocery stores, restaurants, gas and other shops in both. The cottage is also near some popular wedding venues, such as Dancing Elk Lodge.
Well behaved and house trained pets are welcome but must be kept on leash when out of the cottages and never left unattended. ***A pet fee if $25.00 per pet per visit will be charged at check in.*** GBAR Pet Policy: There is a 25 lbs maximum limit for pets. In order for our Livestock Guardian Dogs to do their jobs they have unrestricted access to all areas of the property, including the cottages area. Visiting dogs must be on leash at all times when outside the cottage, but must not be tied up or otherwise left unattended. Walking a pet beyond the immediate area of the cottage is not allowed. We have fenced the area behind the cabins for our guests to use when walking their pets. Our fencing is designed to keep our dogs out. Small dogs can slip through the squares which may lead to injuries or death. Keeping your pet on leash is the only way to assure your pet remains safe. These rules are intended to protect visiting dogs as well as to reduce exposure to visiting dogs to our Guardians, who are charged with protecting the livestock against all potential predators, including domestic dogs, which are actually the biggest threat to our livestock.

The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, love that is it pet friendly. Love how Carol is an awesome host, she is so helpful and communicative. Always a good place to stay, no complaints. Will be looking forward to staying here once again in the next few months actually.
Check in was a smooth and easy process, loved that it had full kitchen and restroom, Wi-Fi access was a plus. The animals were nice to look at and we definetly WILL BE BACK. I have already told family and friends about this amazing place.
This was our second stay at the Gulf Breeze Alpaca Ranch. We enjoyed our stay very much. Lyn was very responsive to our requests and was the most hospitable hostess. We love watching all the animals and interacting with Titus and the other dogs. Thanks Lyn, for all you did to make our visit memorable!

I took my 3-7 year old granddaughters to the farm, and they loved it! Easy place for kids to be close to the alpacas, chickens, sheep and turkeys! So fun! The cabin was clean and comfortable and super cute!
Lyn told me that she loves being in hospitality, and it shows! The cabins are beautiful, comfortable, and thoughtfully put together. The place really shines at sunset with perfect views off the back porch of the sun going down over the lake. It's nice and dark at night, so the stargazing is great! Overall, I was so pleased with my stay here!
I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to find a peaceful getaway. The owner was very friendly and attentive to our needs. This is the second time that we have used vrbo and both times our stay was perfect. Thank you vrbo. We will keep using your service.
Had book this cabin at the last minute. Lyn was awesome!! Her little cabin was perfect for us. We were even able to bring our dog Buster. Loved visiting the alpacas and all the farm animals. Will definitely be back, most likely when it’s cooler.
This was a delightful place--the cottage was comfortable and convenient, and the location on the farm was lovely. I really enjoyed meeting Lynn and Andrew and seeing her shop. I'm a birdwatcher, and this was a lovely location for walking and seeing the birds. All the farm animals were fun to watch and interact with. My husband and I had a great time.
Cozy and comfy cabin. We really enjoyed staying here at the Alpaca farm with Lyn. Her and her son are very friendly and helpful. The GPS sent us to another area, but Lyn was able to talk on the phone with us to give me directions on how to get there. We really enjoyed getting to meet and learn about all her animals.
Not much more I can say except outstanding. The cabin had everything we needed from cooking to sleeping. The animals were amazing and so friendly to my boys, age 3 and 5. The huge dog, Titus was their favorite. Sunset was great and location to the Corpus was just fine. Wish all VRBO’s were this great.

Thanks so much for choosing to stay with us for your time away from home. Glad to know the kids enjoyed themselves as well!
Our stay was very pleasant and host was very generous and accommodating. From the moment you walk in. Very clean snacks and bfast items provided. Information on the animals and working Alpaca Ranch. Cute lil shop. The only thing I wish we could of had some closer moments with Alpacas. But over all stay was amazing. Coffee on the porch seeing the sunrise and seeing sunset off back porch with Alpacas in background over view of Lake. Amazing 😍
The cabins are really well set up, and they were spotless.
All services and amenities in offer were superb.
The animals and the farm are a great change of pace from other types of getaways, and the owners are very gracious about offering information and tours of the farm life.
The check-in / check-out procedures are the simplest ever.
I can't recommend this property enough.
We very much enjoyed our stay. The house was small, but perfect for a couple, with a small dog. The house was charmingly decorated and had everything we needed, plus a stash of snacks, English muffins, jellies and orange juice. Our questions and concerns were promptly dealt with. We will stay there again.
My husband and I stayed here for Christmas because it’s close to my daughter’s. We had a wonderful time! I cooked Christmas dinner at the cabin, we enjoyed the animals and the shop. Definitely plan on staying again in the near future!
Second time staying here and both times were great! Will return as long as we continue vacationing in the area

About the host
Hosted by Lyn Christoph
Mark and Lyn have owned and operated the Gulf Breeze Alpaca (and Sheep) Ranch at Lake Corpus Christi near Mathis since 2007. Soon after welcoming her alpacas home, Lyn developed skills in processing their fiber herself, starting with learning how to shear them. After learning how to shear and process her own fiber into batts, roving and yarn, Lyn opened her shop and studio where she teaches spinning, knitting and wet felting & needle felting. She offers hand made and commercially made items and yarn in her shop at the ranch. Mark and Lyn offer tours of the ranch to groups and families throughout the year. This year they have added vacation rentals to the mix. The owners purchased the Property in 2000 - but this cabin was built in 2017.
Why they chose this property
The Christophs sought a piece of land within a 50 mile radius of their home in Corpus Christi where they could get away on weekends. They found this spot, a five acre tract of unimproved land that was located across the road from Lake Corpus Christi and immediately fell in love with the area. After purchasing the land in 2000, they spent weekends using a travel trailer, later to build a house, where they live now. They purchased additional 10 acres in 2008, and the 15 acres that connected it all together in 2010.
What makes this property unique
The property is located within the flight paths of many migrating birds. There are many beautiful birds that live in the area year round. Green Jays, Kiskadees, Mockingbirds, many different finches and water fowl make their home in the area surrounding the lake. Wildlife is abundant, especially since the State Park is located less than 2 miles to the South of the property, there is also a Nature Preserve that runs along the river on both sides of the Wesley Seal Dam. Being within 50 miles of the Gulf Coast, the property enjoys cooling breezes coming from the Gulf waters, a semi-tropical environment. Being also on the edge of the dry line gives the property some semi-arid benefits such as a little dryer days in the summer.
No matter what time of year, the benefits of living and working in the country are incalculable.
