Deep in the San Juan mountains of south central Colorado, this cabin provides a surprisingly high level of amenities for a property that is off-grid. The local community is pleasant, the host is supportive and easy to work with, and the rugged beauty of the environment is unmatched!

Wonderful location

The cabin is located in a wonderful location. There are other cabins close by but you still feel secluded and it is quiet. So much off road riding and hiking close by. The porch was amazing place to sit and relax. We enjoyed our stay.

Great place to stay

The little cabin was perfect for our friend get together. Everything we needed was supplied and the water and solar system for electricity is a real bonus in Jasper where you are totally secluded from the outside world! The view from the front porch was beautiful and so relaxing. We would certainly do it again!

Hunting trip

Spent a week hunting the area - what a great cabin and area. Dara was great to work with as well as the local contact - Kevin. It was a perfect week - we will be back soon.

This beautifully appointed and well equipped cabin provides the best of off-grid living. The roads in may be a bit rough and you will want to be mindful of your use of electricity, but the return on investment is peace and solitude in stunningly lovely surroundings.

The cabin was just as described. The dirt road there is a little rough, but oh my goodness, what a beautiful drive!! The cabin is pleasantly remote and surrounded by gorgeous aspen trees and majestic mountains. I loved being there to see the fall colors. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed, and I loved the coziness. It was such a bonus to be able to take our dogs. They had a great time too! If you want a peaceful and beautiful getaway, this is your place!

Beautiful Setting

We two stayed in a lodge-cabin that could have as many as 7 people. Driving to Jasper is quite a challenge on a 20-mile dirt road, but it was well worth it. Upon arriving, we saw much beauty in God's creation. The trees, the mountains, the river, the wildlife were amazing.

Slice of Paradise

We love staying in this cabin. It's very peaceful. Everything we needed was there. And if we needed anything the caretaker was just down the road. Easy access to ATV trails, fishing, mountain biking and hiking. We like to say the best kept secret in Colorado. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin with us.

Wonderful getaway cabin

This was our second stay at the cabin, this time with two teenagers. The cabin has been upgraded a little since our first stay, which made the stay even better. I had a technical question the first night of the stay and Dara relied within minutes of my email. The location is amazing and cabin is truly first rate. We all had a great time reconnecting on this trip. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone.

We had a great time, but knew we would as we are very familiar with this place. They only down side is that in the pictures and description there were bunk beds but there wasn’t any. Other than that it was a great time!!

Paradise

Lost Elk Lodge was everything we were hoping for and more. It’s an off grid place and uses solar power but we never saw it go below 86%. The house was clean and well stocked and had everything we needed. The covered porch out front was so nice to hang out at, we spent a lot of time there. Plenty of hiking options nearby and we saw elk, mule deer, two moose and various other animals while there. The place is remote and it’s over an hour to get to the nearest gas station and grocery store, but that was exactly what we were looking for. Dara was a wonderfu host, quick to respond, very nice and accommodating. We are already ready to go back!

Only complaints are no trash bags. This made it kinda hard to get all our trash out as requested. We made do tho7gh. And kitchen sink drain leaking so we could not pour anything in the sink or it came out underneath. Made it hard to wSh dishes etc. Other than those minor things, was a great place

We're sorry to hear that the Lodge wasn't up to our normal high standards, but glad to hear you had a great stay. Please note that our Lodge caretaker lives in Jasper, and his contact details as well as mine are in our info emails and at the Lodge. A quick call to either him or myself or a knock on his door would've solved any of the minor issues in a flash!

Beautiful Getaway

Lovely, cozy off-grid cabin to rest after long hiking days. But also has all the amenities you would want at home. Plenty of wifi for work (🤮) and streaming services and everything several teenagers do on their phones. Finally, I hate the secret of how beautiful Jasper, Colorado, is to get out, but wow. We can't wait to go back.

Family Vacation

We enjoyed staying at the cabin. We saw deer, moose and elk on our travels around the property. We didn't catch too many fish but the area was beautiful. We loved sitting out on the balconies watching the rain. Very peaceful but very far from any main towns.

Great “unplugged” week

What an amazing place! The cabin had every amenity we could need. And while satellite phone and Internet are available should you choose to use them it is otherwise a fantastic location to unplug and immerse yourself in nature. Bears, moose, deer…We saw them all! Jasper is a hidden little gem, and the people there are so friendly..
