We are a family of four from South Surrey, British Columbia. We are very active and enjoy land and water recreation and fell in love with beautiful Whidbey Island as it offers everything we love to do and more! We are very happy and fortunate to have found our place in Oak Harbor, as it provides us a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and some wonderful quality family time. A great place to relax and recharge. We look forward to many happy times here in Whidbey with family and friends, and are glad to be able to share it with you and your families!
Jennifer Lee purchased this house in 2012
Upon visiting Whidbey Island for the first time, we immediately fell in love with this island's natural beauty and small town charm. Beeksma House offered us a place where we can just sit back and relax, where the kids can be kids...having the freedom to walk to the beach or park or to grab an ice cream treat. Located in a quiet neighborhood, at the end of a quiet street, you feel nice and cozy tucked away from the 'big' city, but still very close to amenities. Its close proximity to the water is very important to us as we enjoy going out for a paddle, exploring the nearby water ways. Our location is fantastic as it offers easy access to Deception Pass State Park, Coupeville, Penn Cove, Greenbank, Langley, the Keystone ferry to Port Townsend and the Olympic Peninsula, Fort Ebey, Fort Casey, miles and miles of beaches, hiking trails, lavender farms and historic sites, golfing, equestrian pursuits and NAS Whidbey Island. Easily accessible by Deception Pass Bridge from the north and the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry from the south, an easy two hour drive from Vancouver, BC and Seattle, WA.
Everything you would want to do is so close! No need for a car for all the fun stuff we like to do. Walk to the beach, park, downtown. Groceries, restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream shops, shopping...everything is close by. Many town and island events mostly happen at City Beach. No need to drive and find parking. Just walk out the front door and you're there! Though it may sound like Beeksma House is right in the middle of the action, its peaceful neighborhood is tucked away, providing privacy for some quiet relaxation. A nearby nature trail is home to many wildlife. Bunnies, deer, pheasants, eagles, a variety of wild birds, and of course the sea gulls, can be seen all around.
Our family of 6 -- three generations -- loved the Beeksma House. It was only 10 minutes from the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, where we had a number of events, and close to several other destinations. The house itself was extremely clean, updated, had plenty of bathrooms and bedrooms, and was very close to lots of options for coffee and takeout. Best of all, the Owner was extremely helpful, responsive, professional and accommodating. The house is a short drive to La Conner and Coupeville, and about 40 minutes from Anacortes. We will be back to the area in 18 months for another Change of Command and look forward to renting again.
Great Property! We enjoyed our stay. The location is close to the beach, shopping is near by, restaurants etc. The green egg take a bit to understand but only because I had not used one before but once we got it going it worked like a charm. Place was very clean and maintained when we arrived. Lots of amenities for the kids, ping pong, badminton, canoe etc. No cable but Netflix which was fine for us. Only input I would provide is we needed a few more blankets. Jennifer was easy to work with. We would rent again!
What a cutely decorated home. We enjoyed our stay very much. The house is a 5 min drive to Safeway and just a short walk to the beach. The house was super clean and hotel worthy. I would recommend this house to anyone.
AC would have been nice, although usually unnecessary on Whidbey island. It was unusually warm during our stay. This is a very nice property. We would utilize this property again.
A great size for our group (6 adults, 2 kids) and nice features for our purpose (talking and spending time together.) Plenty clean and well equipped. The kids enjoyed the ping-pong and the big screen. Everyone liked the couple minute walk to the park and the ocean. Safeway and Walmart are very close. We needed our own shampoo but the kitchen was well equipped and the decor pleasant and homey. We'd do it all again!
We just loved our stay at the Beeksma House. We wish we had stayed longer. Whidbey Island has a lot that would interest families of different ages and different interests. We visited a lighthouse, the Lavender Wind Farm, walked around Fort Casey, swam at Double Bluff Beach, hiked at Deception Pass where we could have stayed all day, crossed the Deception Pass Bridge, had amazing ice cream at Kapaws Iskreme, happily devoured marionberry cream cheese pastries at the Knead & Feed, had pingpong competitions at night, took turns canoeing out into the sound, grilled shrimp kabobs and mussels on the Big Green Egg grill, and even took the time to return to Seattle one evening to see the city lights from the Space Needle as the sun was setting (beautiful cap to our vacation in Washington). There were books in the house that show 100 fun places to go on Whidbey Island - it looks like it is a fun island to visit each season of the year. Maybe someday we will be able to return to Washington during a different season and we would definitely stay at the Beeksma House again. It felt like home away from home! Thank you for opening your lovely home to families visiting the Seattle area.
