Another wonderful week!!

  • 5 of 5

You cannot beat the view from the living room, the deck or the patio! The house is so warm and inviting. And the location is perfect to walk down to the city park and the town of St. Ignace. This was our 4th year and we plan on going again next year. We already cannot wait until then.

Absolutely delightful

  • 5 of 5

What a special find of a cottage. The online pictures do not do it justice. This place was awesome. It is more of a home than a cottage. Charming inside and out. The view is incredible and we really enjoyed our stay of seven nights. Bernie the owner was in town and he is very personable and totally responsive of any of your needs. We took lots of pictures of the cottage and can't wait to share with our friends. Beryl and Vinny Mancuso

5th Time to Visit Heaven on Earth!!!

  • 5 of 5

We have for the last 4 years spent our Christmas in this beautiful cottage in St. Ignace, we would be heart broken not be be able to so this each year it's our happy place.....Bernie and Kathy are the very BEST home owners we have ever worked willing to help in anyway...we have never met them face to face but feel like they are family, sharing their piece of heaven with us each year...we cook our Christmas Eve Dinner, Christmas Day Turkey Dinner, bake Christmas Cookies, and RELAX and enjoy the breathtaking.....we visit all the beautiful locations in the Lower and U.P. Michigan...This year we explored and shopped Petoskey, Good Hart, Harbor Springs, the SOO. the Cut River Bridge (a must see), Tahquamenoa Falls ( a must see), and Mackinaw Island in the Winter....after a day of adventure we came "HOME" (because this is how you feel in this gorgeous home it's like your own home, but better) to a wonderful fire in the fireplace to warm up...the word RELAXING is an understatement it is truly HEAVEN on EARTH!!! Kathy and Bernie the owners painstakingly make sure your visit is one to remember and I promise you, you won't want to leave....but because we all have to return to reality....I also promise'll want to return trust me you will! The cottage is decorated so beautifully and the views of St. Ignace and Mackinaw Island are unbelievable...You'll watch the ferries going back and forth to the magical Mackinaw Island...We also stayed here in the Summer...which is amazing also.....with all the flowers, whirl pool, and the beautiful town of St can't go wrong...if I could give this a millions stars I would..honestly I almost hate to tell you how wonderful it is..I wish I could keep it all to ourselves but now that wouldn't be fair...everyone deserves a slice of Heaven in their lives and this is the place...enjoy your future stay here you'll fall in love the minute you walk in!!!!

Best Place to Stay in St. Ignace

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time staying at Summer Winds. We enjoyed it so much last year that we booked it for two weeks in 2016. The owner, Kathy is great with communication, especially with the check-in/check-out process. There is a binder in the house that has instructions on how to operate everything (TV, hot tub, lighting, furnace, etc). The house is extremely clean and well-kept and the kitchen is fully stocked with everything that you need. Summer Winds is beautifully decorated, very spacious and has amazing views of the Straights of Mackinac. The gardens and grounds are stunning and offer plenty of seating to enjoy the views of the water, Mackinac Island and downtown St. Ignace. We spent many relaxing evenings enjoying the views from the hot tub or fire pit. When we felt like exploring, it was a short walk to the shops and restaurants in downtown St. Ignace. We especially enjoyed eating at Jose's Cantina (excellent Mexican food) and the Mackinac Grille. We took day trips to Grand Marais, Tahquamenon Falls, the quaint towns of Hessel and Cederville, and Mackinac Island. We would definitely book Summer Winds again. It's the best place we've rented through Home Away!

No better place to stay in St. Ignace!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Summer Winds in August of 2016 and it was just a fantastic cottage! All the amenities are there. EVERYTHING you need is here! The cottage itself is well appointed and decorated beautifully inside. Loved the flow of the place too. The kitchen was stocked with anything you need to cook and clean up. We utilized the blender for making margaritas to enjoy in the hot tub. YUM! Most of our meals were eaten out though because we were touring the U.P. a lot during our week there. The amenities outside include a swing, HUGE deck with a hot tub, and fire pit, all with a stunning view of St. Ignace and the straights of Mackinac. The only thing we didn't get to use was the fire pit because the fire danger was very high when we were there. There's ceiling fans in every room and they really cool the place down when it gets a little warm.

The city of St. Ignace is just the perfect little tourist town. Not too big, not too small. So cute and clean. We attended concerts down on the marina one night. So fun! They also have movies outside during the week and fireworks on Saturday nights during the summer. Just beautiful to see over the bay! And of course there are many, many restaurants and shops to visit in downtown St. Ignace. Our favorite was the Mackinac Grille. Very good food there, nice little patio to sit on, and a salad bar that is to die for!!

Like I said we toured the U.P. most of the week and St. Ignace is not a far drive from the places we visited. Tahquamenon Falls, Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, lighthouses, Pictured Rocks, I could go on and on. Our favorite spots to visit though were Mackinac Island, and Fishtown in Leland. There is no end to the sights to see and things to do!

I have to commend the owners for the excellent customer service they give! When we got there the internet was not working. While it wasn't that big a deal for us, both of them were practically jumping through hoops to fix it. It was working fine by the time Monday came around. Also, when we walked in the cottage there was a beautiful bouquet of hydrangeas on the dining room table. Such a nice touch! Kudos go out to their housekeeper for a great job! The place was sparkling clean!

Well, this isn't the shortest review here but I had to relay how wonderful this place is and how it's vantage point is a BONUS! Sunrises and sunsets can be seen from Summer Winds. And they are stunning!! Thanks for sharing this cottage with us!!

As you leave the lower peninsula of Michigan and cross the Straits of Mackinaw on the Mackinac Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world you will arrive in St. Ignace. A small town founded in 1671 that has remained small and a place where visitors get a chance to escape away from it all and enjoy life at a slower pace.

Spectacular Vista’s abound with views overlooking St. Ignace's Harbor, lighthouse and historic Mackinac Island. Relax on the 16’ x 90’ private water view deck, sit in the hot tub Jacuzzi and watch the Mackinac Island ferry boats, sailboats and the world go by.

Downtown is a short five-minute walk along the beach and boardwalk. While there enjoy gift and fudge shops, the Fort du Buade Museum, and a variety of restaurants offering everything from homemade pies and pasties, a local tradition, to homemade soups and local favorite - whitefish and perch- caught in the cool, fresh waters of the Straits of Mackinac.

What’s to Do?

Mackinaw Island:

Walk to the ferry that will carry you back in time. A place where the form of transportation is horse and carriage, bicycles or your own two feet. Beautiful downtown with shopping and photo oops abound. Hike the trails or ride your bike on the only state highway that prohibits motor vehicles.

There are many different cruises offered in the Straits of Mackinac area. Cruise beneath the mighty Mackinac Bridge, around Mackinac Island, past historic lighthouses and along scenic coastlines, to name just a few.

Tahquamenon Falls:

The Upper falls is one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi.

The closest course for your enjoyment is the St. Ignace Golf and Country Club. Spectacular vistas of the Mackinac Bridge make this public course a 'must play'. Full pro shop with rentals and carts.
