Welcome to The Valley Of The Moon! Glen Ellen, a little gem in the heart of the rolling green hills of wine country, is only 20 minutes from downtown Sonoma and prides itself on offering something amazing for everyone. With many epic state parks and famous vineyards just a few minutes away, I invite you to relax and enjoy wilderness and fine wine at your doorstep in my vacation home away from home, The Oak Haven. Take a load off, you deserve it!

Nestled among giant oak trees, hugging an uninhabited sprawling forest and across from Morton's Warm Springs (open only during the summer months), The Oak Haven is a sanctuary with gorgeous views that offers the blissful indulgence of a welcome retreat. Come and see the deer, turkey, fox and other wildlife that inhabit the woods. When it rains, a gurgling stream borders the property flowing amid grey stones and golden leaves.

Featuring a spacious deck, grill, outdoor table with umbrella and ample seating, The Oak Haven is the perfect spot for drinking and dining in the sunshine or shade. Enjoy a hot, bubbling soak under the brilliant stars after dinner in a comfortable six person hot tub!

High, sloping, wooden ceilings, large windows, a dining table for six, gorgeous antique furniture, hardwood floors, beautiful ceiling fans, well appointed lighting and a pellet-burning fireplace create a luxurious, relaxing experience with natural lighting and a quaint, rustic feel.

For indoor entertainment, high speed internet is readily available. Enjoy your preferred media on our portable 50 inch flat screen Apple TV and surround sound speaker bar. You can easily surf for movies, news, HBO shows, sports, iTunes and many more in high def. Apple TV also offers access to your personal iTunes music library from your laptop or iPhone.

For reading enthusiasts, there's a plush lounging chair with a light and foot rest by the fireplace. Local hiking and biking guide books, cook books, board games and classic short stories is close by.

Crack a bottle of local, organic wine in our well appointed, fully stocked kitchen. Gleaming in black, silver and green with large sun lit windows, our kitchen also offers ample storage space, an electric stove top, a double oven, a large stainless steel fridge and all new appliances including a microwave, toaster, juicer, coffee grinder, tea kettle, coffee maker and french press.

The master bedroom suite features a queen bed, newly remodeled bathroom, an open walk in closet that serves as a little room where you can use our treadmill, antique armoire, ceiling fan, AC window unit, base board heater plush new carpet and a sliding door out to the surrounding deck.

The cozy middle room offers a floor fan, space heater, and comfy double bed, for those couples that like to snuggle close and an antique reading table.

The front bedroom features a queen bed, antique armoire, new carpet, AC window unit, fan, base board heater and closet.

Both the master bath and the guest bath have been remodeled with beautiful tile floors and new vanities, lights, sinks and fixtures. The bathrooms also come with organic bathing gels, shampoo/conditioners and hair dryers.

For those of you with dogs, we have an extra large 4ft wide X 8ft long X 6ft high dog kennel on the side of the house opposite the hot tub for added pet security while on premises. I ask that you please clean up thoroughly after your pet, don't allow them on the furniture and make sure they don't disturb the neighbors.

A new driveway along with off street parking accommodates up to 3 cars. Driving from SFO will take approximately 90 minutes outside of rush hour and from the Oakland Airport, the commute is approximately a 1 hour and 30 minutes.

About Kelly Nelson

I'm from the Pensacola area of Florida but have greatly enjoyed living in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1999. I'm a musician and have been in touring bands for almost 20 years. I'm also an artist of mixed media. I have a great love of nature, fitness and holistic living.

Kelly Nelson purchased this house in 2013

Why Kelly Nelson chose Sonoma County

As a nature lover and avid hiker, I was drawn to Glen Ellen for it's numerous state parks and cycling opportunities. Awe inspiring natural surroundings took my breath away and had me coming back to the area time and time again. When I decided to look for a vacation home, privacy was on the top of my priority list. I said yes as soon as I walked into the house in 2013. The house was perfect with an uninhabited forest on one side, a sloping hill behind us and a nice, tall fence separating our property from a friendly neighbor, Jim. I also fell in love with the quaint, near by town of Sonoma for it's diverse culinary offerings, lovely town square, artisan craft stores and wine tasting opportunities.

What makes this house unique

Waking up to the early morning sound of song birds and ravens while wandering outside with a steaming cup of hot coffee only to find a mother deer and her fawn gazing up at me calmly was one experience out of many that made me fall in love with this place.

Enjoying the intense greenery of the forest playing off the dappled light on our deck while lounging in a rocking chair watching the sun fade to brilliant hues of red and gold with a glass of pinot noir was another.

Leaning out over our balcony in the pitch blackness of night (no street lights!) as crickets came to life under cover of darkness in a cacophony of song while gazing up at incredibly clear stars so bright and shining was yet one more.

Family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family of ourselves and 4 adult children enjoyed a week at Oak Haven. It was spacious and quiet. We appreciated sitting and eating outside on the large deck and having enough room for each of us to read or do some work. We ate most of our meals at the house and the kitchen had just about everything we needed. Kelly was responsive to any questions we had. It is a special place and we will always remember our time there with fond memories.

We loved this peaceful home beneath towering oak trees!

  • 5 of 5

The Oak Haven was exactly the peaceful, shaded, retreat home our family needed in Glen Ellen. We were all in town to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday at my brother's house, and The Oak Haven was our very comfortable home-away-from-home for a week. Kelly was so easy to work with, and she thought of everything we needed, including a new BBQ brush and charcoal for the grill. The beds were comfortable, with plenty of linens and towels, and having a washer and dryer was very handy. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals, and the patio table and chairs on the deck created a lovely spot for dining outdoors beneath the towering oak trees. It's right across the street from Morton Hot Springs, if you want to swim in a pool. The hot tub on our deck was just right for soaking on chilly mornings. We never needed the heater, A/C or pellet stove. We all really enjoyed the house and will happily return one day!

(P.S. Garbage pick-up day is Thursday, if you need to know that.)

Relaxing in nature, all amenities, hottub, wifi, bigscreen TV...sweet retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Path lights leading us up steps to big wraparound outdoor deck with rustic logwood furniture, we find an already-heated spa with bubble jets, a BBQ and fresh nature smells.

Then stepping inside we discover the full kitchen, bottled water dispenser, bags of strong ground coffee in freezer.

Going to spacious main room, there's a very tall ceiling with ceiling fan, comfy couches, and a built-in glass-front pellet stove.

About to enter hall to rear section, we see a sign asking to remove shoes in carpeted areas, which we did.

The bedrooms were comfortable & snug, with tracks of recent vacuuming on the carpets.

Plenty of clean towels, fresh linens, plush bathrobes in closets, both bathrooms clean & well-stocked, hand-held shower sprayers (which I love) in them.

Washer & dryer, which we needed, and all laundry detergent, prewash spray & dryer sheets supplied. I love the attention to detail, felt well attended-to.

She had left us a very complete printout of house instructions which answered many questions as they came up (such as how to use heater with remote control, points to remember when locking up). In the desk were suggestions of area attractions & wineries, with maps.

All in all, a wonderfully restful, pleasurable, rejuvenating getaway, a much-needed remedy to our usual fast pace and deadlines.

This was just a place to hike, come back to quiet hot tub under the stars, glass of wine, curled up on the couch watching the orange fireplace flames dancing hypnotically. Bliss!

Then the comfy beds, and it was so quiet there I forgot how much background noise we had gotten used to in the city. We will come here to unwind & recharge in the future, and will definitely make this a new, healingly great habit.

Only one negative thing:

I wish we had booked for a day or two longer, because it was so-o-o-o peaceful and soothing spending time there. I think I wanna just go live there.

A Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

Kelly was a great host who replied quickly and clearly, with all the information we needed. When we arrived at the house, we were happy to come to a clean, spacious, and well-maintained house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The beds were very comfortable, the house has excellent air-conditioning – great for cooling down on a hot summer day, and the house manual was also very nice! In the evening, we found a nice place to have dinner, the Palooza Gastropub and Wine Bar, just four minutes away by car. All in all this was a wonderful experience, and we will be back soon. Thank you!

The only negstive is that the oven needs to be fixed.

Owner's Response: The oven works but needs re-calibration. The exact adjustment needed on the bake dial was provided to the guest. We'll be addressing that this week. Thanks!
