Tropical Immersion!

  • 5 of 5

Bev's casita is beautifully furnished and decorated! The main room has plenty of seating, with enough space for the pull down bed (which was very comfortable). The layout of the casita is very functional, with a great bathroom on the right and a well stocked kitchen on the left. But perhaps the best part of the floorplan is the walls of windows and sliders that surround the living space! And right outside the casita is a private trail that leads into the rainforest, past an observation platform and a running creek, and up the hill. You are immediately in a tropical setting!

If you want to do much sightseeing, be prepared to give yourself enough time, as traversing the unpaved roads in the area is an experience in itself! Most people recommend 4WD, and a navigation system is also helpful. We wished that we had planned more time to stay in the area. We spent only three nights at Vistas, and didn't manage to get in all the things we had wanted to do.

We were lucky enough to see a few toucans in the trees, a couple of monkeys above the trail, and astonishing butterflies all around the casita, without having to travel at all! For a spectacular lake view, go to Cafe & Macadamia for breakfast or

Bev was very responsive, helpful, and gracious during our stay. We truly appreciated the beautiful indoor living space and outdoor views of the lake, volcano, and flora. The clubhouse, too, has many amenities that you can use. Pura Vida!

Gorgeous view of Lake Arenal from the all glass walled casita

  • 5 of 5

Bev is an incredibly gracious host. From the welcome basket and goodies in the fridge to the decorating touches in the casita to the welcoming clubhouse and infinity pool and the relaxing massage she scheduled for us, it was an idyllic 3 days. If there were a negative for the property it would be the gravel road from Tronadora to the property. But the clubhouse, casita and its views, pool and Bec's hospitality more than made up for the minor inconvenience of a short bumpy ride. My wife and I would love to stay here again.

Want to be serenaded by Howler monkeys and wake up to beautiful sunrises? Stay here. You will not want to leave.

Bev was great from the time we booked until the time we left. Upon arrival she had a cold beer and a fresh cut pineapple waiting for us. It only got better. She took us to our house and had a welcome basket waiting, full of local goodies and of course wine! There were a few local beers and other beverages in the fridge along with some fresh fruit. Eat the fruit. It's the best you will ever have.

This is a great place to stay and take day trips. I would highly recommend renting a car. You will have so much freedom if you do (it's bumpy, but worth it). We did La Fortuna the first day and Monteverde the second. Go to Ecocentro Denaus right outside of La Fortuna (sloth sightings) and zip lining with Sky Trek in Monteverde. Both of these drives were about an hour and a half, give or take. Give yourself a little extra time!!

There are grocery stores and restaurants nearby. Check out Lake Arenal Brewery. Great craft beer and food! Gorgeous lake views.

I cried the day we left. I was hanging in the hammock drinking coffee and just happened to see a family of Howlers in a tree next to the house and also a gang of Toucans. It's like being in Jurrassic Park. Words can't describe the feeling you get here. My husband and I cannot wait to return. Pura Vida!

It is like living outside in the comfort of a well appointed casita

  • 5 of 5

The casita allows you to look at the wildlife without leaving the comfort of the home. After a day of touring sitting on the porch or a dip in the pool was relaxing and refreshing. Bev was full of knowledge about the things to do and welcomed us warm heartily.

Excellent Casita for my Lake Arenal visit.

  • 5 of 5

First of all Bev is very accommodating and excellent hostess. She went above and beyond finding me an extra bed for a friend of mine on very short notice. We enjoyed visiting with all the expats who stay and live in the area at the clubhouse at night. The casita was comfortable, very clean, amazing views and excellent little trail beside a creek on the property. Thanks for the hospitality Bev and would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Stay here and relax in style or find adventure--your choice!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently spent 3 nights at Vistas after four nights in Playa Junquillal. The casita we stayed in is beautiful, private, modern, very clean, has a well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed, beautiful bathroom and an unparalleled view of the lake. We were warmly welcomed, received a beautiful basket with fresh fruit, wine and snacks. If you choose to relax--and you should, the pool is lovely, and make sure to check in with Bev about professional spa treatments from Flore. Breakfast was available to us Mon-Fri in the club house and was very reasonably priced and delicious. Bev is a wealth of information about the area and will steer you in the right direction for everything from where to eat, to where to get your rental tire repaired for five bucks. We have only wonderful things to say about Vistas and the heart behind the place, Bev Sheatz. If we visit Costa Rica again, we would return to this place without any hesitation. The people are friendly and inclusive and the place is truly beautiful.

Tilaran and Tronadora are nearby towns and you can find a small market in Tronadora and a larger Pali grocery store in Tilaran if you need to stock up. Tronadora is quaint and clean compared to the beach towns we saw in the first half of our trip. The weather is cooler than the beach but was still warm and breezy. We used the casita as a jumping off point for ziplining in Monteverde and hiking at the Viento Fresco falls--both fun adventures. I highly recommend the falls as it is closer and very beautiful. If heading for Monteverde, be prepared for a long drive on bumpy gravel roads but with a fun adventure at the end. We ate at Brises restaurant, a short drive from the casita, and you really really should try their famous iced green tea and delicious entrees. Ask for Jimmy's Special chocolate ice cream dessert. Note: the lake is not easily accessible but you have a pool and a view--what else do you really need?!
