About Maureen Casey

This family home was purchased in 1960 and has been loved by our large extended family since then. Many celebrations have taken place in this home and it has always been a place of laughter, relaxation and time spent with people important to each other. We are delighted to share our home with you and those people special to you. Enjoy the sound of the surf, sunsets over the Cement Ship, and the view of dolphins, whales, pelicans and otters.

Maureen Casey purchased this house in 1960

Why Maureen Casey chose Central Coast

Because our extended family enjoyed the beach so much, our grandparents purchased the house. Our uncle built a house on the street behind the house and a cousin lived in another house on that street so we always had lots of people together. With the peaceful sound of the ocean and the gorgeous view from the deck, living room, upstairs bedrooms we have always appreciated this special place. Regardless of the weather, this home will leave you relaxed and rejuvenated. The beach and area provide the opportunity to take in the outdoors and enjoy the ocean.

What makes this house unique

The central location allows you to head to Monterey or Carmel, to Nicene Marks, to Santa Cruz or to the Cement Ship. Hiking, biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, bodysurfing, walking, sightseeing, and wine tasting are just some of the many activities we enjoy in the area. Unobstructed view of Monterey Bay from Monterey to Santa Cruz. Easy to walk to various eateries, walk to the beach, easy on and off the freeway.

Aptos Beach House

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful location. House was roomy and very well appointed. Walking distance to local restaurants. Very accessible to the beach. We had 10 people, and all slept comfortably. Kitchen had everything we needed.

Aptos sunsets do not disappoint!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for allowing us to use your home. I chose it hoping to catch an Aptos sunset for my "land-locked" friends and we were not disappointed. Accommodations were great for our Girls' getaway weekend. Beds were comfortable. The kitchen was modern. The parking was sufficient for our group--(this was also a major selling point for us as we had people coming from all parts of the state.) The most fun was using the viewing deck upstairs. A short walk to Rio del Mar Beach and the Cement Boat. To top our weekend off, we all made a stop at Marianne's Ice Cream--a classic ice cream parlor. Love this place!

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed there for a week in late July. The house was amazing. The house was stocked with everything we needed. The views were incredible. We saw whales, dolphins and sea otters from the deck. We took several walks to the beach and to Mariannes for ice cream. We will definitely stay at this house again if we travel to Aptos.

Comfortable and Well Appointed

  • 4 of 5

First, you should know that this vacation home is only 1/2 of what is pictured. That said, it is still quite large and comfortable. Upstairs are two very large bedrooms w/king beds and smaller beds--one is a trundle bed, the other is a small double sofabed. There are two full baths upstairs as well. Downstairs is a great kids room with a queen bed and another trundle bed, and a half bath. Plenty of room for the whole family! The view of the ocean is panoramic and the rush of the waves is a soothing way to fall asleep every night. Its proximity to the beach makes it perfect for kids. It is well maintained, and the kitchen is lovely with granite counters and a gas range/oven.

The home is nicely furnished, including plenty of pots and pans as well as glassware, dinnerware, and silverware. A couple of the non-stick frying pans are badly scratched and need to be replaced. The nice, big stainless sink will hold the roasting pan and other big pots; however, even though there is a garbage disposal, the sink drain is covered with a non-removable drain cover/strainer, so you need to scrape your dishes and dispose of all food in the garbage. It's a small thing, but irritating when one is preparing meals for seven as we were.

Now for one problem: This house is actually across the street from the beach which is below. For some odd reason, literally dozens of Aptos residents spend varying lengths of time in their cars across the street from these homes that line Seacliff. During the daytime one will find seniors napping , laborers eating lunch and drinking beer or people reading books and doing crossword puzzles. One woman sat in her car for two hours and as I walked by on the way to the beach, I saw that she had fallen asleep while reading a stack of catalogs. In the late afternoon and evening these folks are replaced by younger people smoking, drinking, texting, smooching, and sometimes setting off fireworks. Some have motor scooters or mopeds that they ride up and down the street. They also sometimes play loud music which can be irritating.

Would I stay there again? Probably so. When I asked a young local man why people hang out there, he said, "It's a beautiful view, right?" Right, but I couldn't help but wonder why so many people had nothing else to do. . . .

Owner's Response: Indeed the view is spectacular! Locals enjoy the vista and lucky visitors equally cherish this gorgeous section of the California coast. In the summer more visitors may discover this spot, and the summertime is one of great enjoyment of the outdoors! This vacation rental provides an unobstructed view from the front living room windows and all across the second story where your big bedrooms and the deck are for your exclusive use. We hope you also valued having the entire second story (including that glorious deck), the living areas and bedroom downstairs plus the driveway, all of the carport, and the back shower area. With the small owners' apartment occupying less than a quarter of the lower level of the property, we can ensure that the house is always comfortable and enjoyed by all who stay here.
