About the Property

Experience a Beautifully Appointed home; Perfect for Writer or Personal Retreat

Beautifully Furnished, Stunning Views, Listen to the Quiet, this home offers exceptional comfort, privacy and aesthetics. The linens are Egyptian cotton, top of the line mattresses: not too firm and not too soft... great for the princess/pea types.

The kitchen is but well designed for storage and equipped with all you need to whip up a delectable meal. The views for dining don't get any better than here.

Crestone means 360 degrees of views that cannot be described - it is meant to be experienced. No different than reading a recipe of the most delectable chocolate cake vs. the experience of eating it.

This beautifully furnished home has been given attention to all the little details that make staying away from home both comfortable and convenient. Every window in every room offers great viewing birds and wildlife, so don't forget your binoculars.

Excellent Wifi is available but remember that cell signals can be sketchy in mountain areas. iPhones work best.

It's mandatory that you arrive before dark - there are no street lights, signs are hard to see.

First, let's get directions out of the way because GPS can be sketchy out here on the open range. the address to use for GPS is 1175 Golden Eagle Tr, Crestone CO 81131 (although most GPS will show Moffat, CO rather than Crestone - go figure)

Hwy 17 to Moffat - look for turn lane going toward the mtns.

go 12 miles to BIG Y in road and BIG WHITE SIGN saying Baca Grande Subdivision/Chalets Turn RIGHT. go 2 miles to sign that says Badger Rd (and there is a STABLES sign as well). Turn RIGHT and go to STOP sign where you will cross a hardtop road and Badger becomes a dirt road. About a mile there will be a 2nd YIELD sign and turn LEFT.

Slow way down or you will miss the small wooden sign (about 50 yards) that says Homestead on the left. Turn LEFT. Go exactly 1 mile to Golden EAgle Tr. on RIGHT. House with red roof is at the end of the lane.

The Sand Dunes Hot Springs Pool - my favorite hang. It's about 35 min. drive. Orient Land Trust is a clothing optional hot springs pool area about 45 minute drive. The STABLES are minutes away and well worth a ride. Check the local paper, Crestone Eagle, for local events each month.

There are three 14-ers in our back yard here and many hikers/climbers come here for this alone. However, you don't have to be a mountain climber to enjoy the many, many varied hikes here for all level of walkers.

The architecture alone is fascinating and worth the trip. There are probably more strawbale houses and 'earthships' per capita than any other place in the galaxy. Most homes here make use of the highly effective passive solar and all my homes in Crestone do.

This is an excellent location from which to base yourself for many day trips. The Rio Grande railroad that departs Alamosa, an hour away, has just lovely day rides to the little mountain town called LaVeda and the homemade ice cream is just another boon on that journey.

Creede is another old west town worth the 2 hour trip along the Continenal Divide. You'll pass through Del Norte which now touts a 5 Star restaurant - no kidding.

Of course, there are a couple of decent cafes in Crestone and as well 2 Excellent grocery stores which sure makes it a LOT easier to visit here... until a couple of years ago, a trip to the market was a 120 RT journey, which insured that you'd better not forget your grocery list.

There's just so much around here one really should allow a minimum of a week to truly appreciate what we know as the hidden gem.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2013

About the owner: I've retired from clinical practice in the Bay area of CA about 3 years ago. My field of medicine was a doctorate in Oriental medicine with a speciality in Endocrinology and Nutrition. Prior to that I worked as a documentary photographer living and working in SE Asia, NE Asia, Mexico and the US.

Why the Owner Chose Crestone, CO, USA:
Keeping my home in Northern CA as a retirement backup, I chose the remoteness and beauty of the Crestone area as an antidote to metropolitan living. And what a location to reflect and write and swim and walk or ride a horse... all the things I had to 'take a vacation' to do. Crazy making and now it's Peace and Content making

The Unique Benefits at this House:
I love the uniqueness of having both the feel of vast space and isolation while the support and benefits of having conveniences in town just 7 miles away. This is truly a hidden gem and folks have to know about it in order to find it. It's as beautiful a place as any place I've seen or lived on this planet... and that's saying a LOT.
