Overview

About the property

4 Bedroom, 3 Bath Luxury Log Cabin 3 minutes from Gatlinburg Arts & Crafts Comm

'It's as if you can reach out and grab Mount LeConte' said one of our recent guests.

The mountain views are glorious no matter the season: fresh greens in the Spring, beautiful Fall reds, yellows and oranges, and white snow cap peaks in the Winter.

Enjoy these mountain views from one of three large decks, or while relaxing in our hot tub on the romantic candlelit gazebo.

You can smell the clean fresh wood. This newer log cabin is decorated with beautiful 'authentic' Log furnishings and pine floors, walls and ceilings throughout.

We've tried to think of everything to accommodate our guests, down to the coffee maker brewing above 200 degrees for perfect coffee, and coffee grinder with Colombian bean coffee so that our log cabin 'Bears Repeating.'

A dining table and island in the kitchen, two picnic tables on the main deck, log rockers, and a fully equipped kitchen provide for wonderful family gatherings.

Couches and chairs are leather for easy cleaning and care.

Bears Repeating sleeps 14 people. Two king master suites, a queen suite, double bunk beds in the fourth bedroom, along with two queen sofa sleepers; perfect for multiple or large families.

The upstairs master honeymoon suite has it's own double Jacuzzi whirlpool tub.

Wi-Fi throughout; flat panel HDTV with Netflix in each bedroom, and easy access to HDMI input for video game consoles (bring your HDMI cable, consoles, games, and controllers).

The TV room has a 70 inch Smart HDTV with Netflix streaming, great for family movies or ballgames; upstairs Family Room has a 40 inch Smart HDTV with Netflix streaming.

And don't forget the Settler's Ridge pool. Great for a family cookout while the kids enjoy a swim after a busy day of hiking or visiting the sites.

'Bears Repeating' is centrally located, near to all the attractions in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountains without the stress of traffic.

In the mountains, as you can imagine, seasonal access to your cabin can be a challenge. Bear's Repeating has year around access (unless extremely heavy snow/ice) by way of Manis Hollow (neither too winding nor too steep).

From 'Bears Repeating' to Gatlinburg, take right onto Powdermill from Manis Hallow and you are in the Arts and Crafts Community on Glades Road in three minutes; another eight minutes and you will be in downtown Gatlinburg.

From Bears Repeating to Pigeon Forge, take a left onto Powdermill from Manis Hallow. Powdermill will turn into Booger Town Road, and in 4.5 miles you will run into Dolly Parton Lane. From there you will be in Pigeon Forge in five minutes or Dollywood and Splash Country in ten.

One thing you will not be doing in our luxury log cabin is roughing it.

We welcome you to share our cabin retreat with us. Our hope is that it will 'bear repeating', and you will share it with your friends or family.

Note concerning negotiating rates:

Since we've received several requests asking to accept significantly discounted rates, addressing the issue openly may save unnecessary time for those looking for steep discounts.

We offer discounted rates based upon a) seasonal rates and b) weekly length of stay.

We've made it a priority to avoid churning days rented in order to pay for our cabin. This is a primary reason for renting Bears Repeating by owner.

It is best for all our guests and Bears Repeating to conservatively rent our cabin at good consistent rates.

We want Bears Repeating to be your home-away-from-home so that you will want to return and tell others about us.

Note for those interested in vacationing in Panama City Beach, Florida.

Vicki and I recently purchased a 2BR/2BA condo in a great location directly on the beach. If you are interested, check out our VRBO listing #512639.

About Mike and Vicki Graham

Mike and Vicki live in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, about 15 miles outside Nashville.

For the past 13 years, Mike has pastored Hickory Grove Church, PCA while Vicki has worked in the Wilson County School system as a Speech Language Pathologist.

We have four children from ages 23 to 14.

Mike and Vicki Graham purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Mike and Vicki Graham chose East

We've always loved the mountains and vacationed in Gatlinburg with our family and on anniversaries.

Mike and the kids used to stop on the Gatlinburg parkway, take off their shoes, stick their feet in the cold mountain water, and see who could keep their feet in the longest.

We purchased a condo in the mountains in Gatlinburg in the early 90's. When Mike was called into ministry, he sold his real estate business and we sold our condo in closing this chapter in our lives.

In 2010, when real estate prices were severely depressed, we decided it was a good time to purchase a second home.

We never dreamed we would find a luxury log cabin like Bears Repeating centrally located to all the attractions.

We've been successfully renting our cabin through a rental management company since purchasing it in June of 2010.

Due to Mike's background in Real Estate, advances in Technology (VRBO/Facebook), locating an excellent cleaning service, and maintaining better over site over guests renting our cabin, we decided to Rent-by-Owner.

Owner's Response: We are sorry about your average stay. We aim for excellent. All the towels are in process of being changed out. Thanks for staying with us. We aim for our guests to have a great time. The last two reviews are humbling to us. This is our only home, and we aim to learn and correct these things.

Not what it was supposed to be

  • 1 of 5

I paid almost $2k for a 5 night stay to have a nice cabin. We arrived at 10 min to the check in time of 4pm and the house hadn't been cleaned. Contacted the owner who was very apologetic and assured us it would be ready in 3 hrs. My family of 5 with a loaded vehicle and evening plans of grilling left to kill time after our 6 hr drive. When the place was finally ready we realized the grill was a joke and made due but again one more disappointment. Two faucets wouldn't shut off, master sink doesn't drain, the pool table is in a room too small to use and the community pool was nasty and closed till the next weekend (another reason we rented this house). The towels smelled like cigerette smoke and the front door locks every time you walk outside which happens to be the only decent seating area outside and where the grill is. The house is choppy. Overall a very disappointing rental. Other than the Owner's response and attempts to help I can't say anything good about it. Oh wait the location wasn't bad. The wifi and tv were out the last 2 days but there was a bad storm so not their fault. Bears repeating will not be repeated in my household. We rent homes regularly and usually look for a pool, hot tub and pool table so we aren't renting cheap places. This was our biggest disappointment yet.

Owner's Response: This review was disappointing. We've not had anything like it. Our housekeeper did get her days mixed up and did not clean prior to their arrival. She was there however immediately when realizing the problem, though I'd be upset to. I'm not making excuses, just attempting an explanation of what happened. It is true that our pool table room is smaller than I'd like, another foot on each side would work, but it is not that small nor is the pool table crammed in. The room was made to hold the pool table, and until now never had a complaint. As with the grill. Grills cannot be on decks due to fire hazards. Free standing grills outside have to be cemented in ground. This is, and we got the largest one they had with a lid that closes. Regarding the community pool, I couldn't help this. A water pipe was damaged and required repairing. It was discovered just before Memorial Day. It has taken a couple weeks to repair and get the water ready and will be open this week. The towels are being replaced with all new towels. We cycle them out every season, and I've confirmed with the housekeeper new ones are on the way. We deeply regret the house was not prepared for their arrival. That was awful. And we are grateful out housekeeper and her crew were there within half an hour.

4.5 Stars - Outstanding property with tremendous views and great layout!

  • 4 of 5

We had a very good stay at this property. Overall, we loved our stay. I'll try not to be long winded:

Pros:

*Absolutely terrific view from the 3 back porches. Had it not been in the 30's during our stay, we would have sat our there every evening. It literally couldn't have been any better.

*Cabin was very clean, and honestly my wife and I set a high bar for clean so if we thought it was clean, you will definitely think its fine :-)

*Climate control worked VERY well - it was COLD while we were there are the heat was great. It is also ZONED so if you have differing tastes upstairs and downstairs not everyone must have the same temperature.

*Beds were very comfortable.

*Plenty of dishes, glassware, large fridge, seating in common areas and kitchen.

*Wonderful neighborhood. Near amenities without being in a roadside motel!

*Getting there did not involve dirt roads/roads on the side of a cliff

*Parking for two vehicles was no problem.

Cons:

*When we arrived on Sunday, we discovered that the TVs in the pool room and bedrooms were not working. I reached out immediately via email, which was the preferred method of communication. It was close to 24 hours after my initial report that he finally got back to me, and without going into detail it never got fixed. I totally understand that the property owner has more things going on than this one property, and that Charter can be a frustrating company to deal with. There was a second issue involving the hot tub which did get dealt with VERY quickly (thanks Pat!), so I am suspicious that Charter may be more to blame here.

*The master bedroom on the bottom floor picks up some of the noise from the upstairs living area (especially people walking around with shoes on). More a construction issue than anything else, but it did cause my wife (who is earlier to bed than me) a few issues.
