Two bedroom cottage with an old fashioned front porch in a large private garden
Opal Street House is a two-bedroom cottage set in a former orchard (now a large private garden with nice fruit trees). Opal Street House is less than one mile from the center of Sutter Creek’s historic Main Street and an ideal location for exploring Amador County’s Gold Rush towns, wineries, special attractions (Daffodil Hill, Black Chasm caves, Kirkwood, Jackson Rancheria Casino are all close by) or attending events like the Parade of Lights, Holiday Open Houses, Behind the Cellar Door, Italian Picnic, Amador Four Fires, Big Crush, and concerts at the Sutter Creek Theater. The house is also a great base for day trips to Tahoe, Sacramento and exploring the historic Highway 49 and scenic Highway 88 corridors. Opal Street House is a serene retreat--for those moments when you just need some time to sit on the porch or patio...
Our home is ideal for up to four guests. It features an old-fashioned front porch (with a swing), central heat and air, french doors, hard wood floors in the living areas and carpet in bedrooms, great natural light, a mix of antiques and comfortable modern furnishings--and thoughtful details throughout. Opal Street is a balance of un-fussy luxury and the simple pleasures of living in the country.
We offer one king-size bed and one queen-size bed—both outfitted with luxury linens. Our bookshelves are well-stocked, and we provide a complimentary bottle of local wine, good coffee, some snacks and treats, and pantry essentials for you. We like to cook, and our kitchen is supplied with the basics. If you'd like us to stock the fridge or enhance what’s in the pantry before you arrive, we're happy to arrange for an array of items. We're also happy to help make arrangements for a special occasion (chilled champagne? flowers?)--just let us know. Once you arrive, our house book will help you explore the area with plenty of local insider tips (from our favorite local butcher to the closest hot springs and a full schedule of local and regional events).
Other specific amenities:
Central heat and air, wi-fi, washer and dryer, stereo system (use with your laptop/phone/i-pad or bring CDs), a gas range with oven and broiler, garbage disposal, dish washer, and a full-sized fridge. The bathroom features a tub/shower combination and complimentary luxury bath products. Our enclosed, attached garage provides parking for a single car and our private drive area has ample space for up to two additional vehicles.
We do not have a microwave, a land-line phone, or TV--this house is about unplugging and enjoying 'la dolce vita'.
The garden that surrounds the house is planted with heritage roses, herbs, lilacs, grapes, fruit and nut trees. The house is nestled at the end of a private drive in the midst of a quiet neighborhood. We are firm on our policy of a 4-guest limit, and our house is not suitable for hosting large parties.
We require a two-night minimum stay and offer significant discounts for a stay of one week or more--as well as discounts for returning guests.

About Carma Z
I feel lucky to split my time between Amador County and San Francisco, and I love helping people discover Sutter Creek and our 'Gold Country' region. I crave time to sit on the porch--and Opal Street has a really good one. It makes me happy to take a break from time plugged into media and work to gather friends / family for a walk on a back road, an informal meal or a day of exploring. I love life in SF, and I also love picking flowers in the front yard or eating a just-picked nectarine while standing under the tree. My best ideas of unfussy luxury, fun, and the kind of welcome we give close friends combine here. Opal Street House is a place for la dolce vita. Friends from Hawaii once told my husband and me that wherever we go we make an Ohana house--a house where extended family gathers--and where everyone who gathers is extended family. I hope you feel that way when you come to stay.

Why Carma Z chose Sutter Creek
Just one mile from the center of Sutter Creek's historic Main Street, but set in a garden that feels like a private oasis. I've loved the location of our home from the first moment I saw it in the 1990s. Going into town is effortless, but it's also possible to simply shut our gate and enjoy a private retreat.

Thank you for a wonderful stay! The property is perfectly situated in a quiet neighborhood close to town. The beds were soooo comfortable and we enjoyed the complimentary bottle of wine during sunset. We would definitely recommend and stay here again!
Lovely home and grounds. Well appointed bedrooms and kitchen and a nice large bathroom. Great home base from which to explore the area's bounty. While the weather was rainy and cold during our stay I look forward to another visit when we can take advantage of the front porch swing and the backyard deck and bbq.
Quiet, cozy and convenient
My husband and I came up for a three day weekend to explore the wine region and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Opal Court. It was quiet and very well appointed. Sutter Creek shops and restaurants were less than a mile away and there were plenty of good tasting rooms right in town. Would definitely stay here again.
Very cute & clean!
Great location for Amador wineries and Big Crush 2017! Had everything we needed. We will be back. Thank you.
Home from Home!
From the moment we stepped into this beautiful cottage we loved it! It's beautifully furnished in an electric way, and exuded warmth and charm. The Pantry was extremely well stocked and we enjoyed using a charcoal BBQ, instead of the gas grills we had to use in other rentals, during our stay. (The bed was also very comfortable)!
If I was ever in the business of letting a home, this is how I would like it to be. There was attention to detail and a wealth of information about the house and surrounding area; this is so important to guests, but particularly to those who are coming from overseas.
The owner was wonderful to us during our stay; she answered my questions with kindness and patience. She clearly cares very much about her guests' enjoyment. Thank you for that!
I highly recommend this cottage and the area it's in - perhaps a bit off the tourist trail for those of us coming from the UK. But, we really enjoyed getting to see this side to California! We visited Ironside Vineyard and lots of quaint villages along the wine trail and Route 49. We also went to the State Park, which is on the spot where James Marshall first discovered gold - prompting the Gold Rush. Sutter Creek is also a very pretty town, and whilst we didn't go in for the evening, when we were driving back, around 6 in the evening, it looked pretty lively.
If you are considering this cottage, go for it! You won't be disappointed.
Labor Day 2017
The home has wonderful air conditioning. We visited the area Labor Day weekend 2017 and the best part of the trip was the high functioning system. The house has everything you need and more....the beds are very comfortable....and the pantry is the best.
Jackson and Sutter City are great towns if you LOVE to go antiquing. Remember to have lunch at the Rosebud in Jackson.
We are happy to provide guests with a personalized set of suggestions and directions for activities they would like to explore in our area. Fishing, boating, antiques, theatre, wine tasting, hikes, museums, gold panning, great food, scenic back roads, galleries, unique shops, historic sites, caves, and a casino are a few of the options from less than a mile away to approximately 1 hour's drive from our home. Our home also has an extensive 'house book' full of recommendations from our favorite local ice-cream, thrift shops, and hot springs to suggestions from fellow guests. We're also happy to share information on seasonal events (fairs, farmers market, parades, festivals and special activities).
