Opal Street House is a comfortable and cozy two-bedroom cottage set in a former orchard that has been transformed into a beautiful, gated private garden retreat. Opal Street House is less than one mile from the center of Sutter Creek’s historic Main Street and an ideal location for exploring Amador County’s Gold Rush towns, wineries, special attractions (Daffodil Hill, Black Chasm caves, Kirkwood, Jackson Rancheria Casino are all close by) or attending events like the Parade of Lights, Holiday Open Houses, Behind the Cellar Door, Italian Picnic, Amador Four Fires, Big Crush, and concerts at the Sutter Creek Theater. The house is also a great base for day trips to Tahoe, Sacramento and exploring the historic Highway 49 and scenic Highway 88 corridors. Opal Street House is also a great spot for a serene retreat--for those moments when you just need some time to sit on the porch or grill with friends on the patio.
Our home is ideal for up to four guests. It features an old-fashioned front porch (with a swing), central heat and air, french doors, hard wood floors in the living areas and carpet in bedrooms, great natural light, a mix of antiques and comfortable modern furnishings--and thoughtful details throughout. Opal Street is a balance of un-fussy luxury and the simple pleasures of living in the country.
We offer one king-size bed and one queen-size bed—both outfitted with luxury linens. Our bookshelves are well-stocked, and we provide a complimentary bottle of local wine, good coffee, some snacks and treats, and pantry essentials for you. We like to cook, and our kitchen is supplied with the basics. If you'd like us to stock the fridge or enhance what’s in the pantry before you arrive, we're happy to arrange for an array of items. We're also happy to help make arrangements for a special occasion (chilled champagne? flowers?)--just let us know. Once you arrive, our house book will help you explore the area with plenty of local insider tips (from our favorite local butcher to the closest hot springs and a full schedule of local and regional events).
Other specific amenities:
Central heat and air, wi-fi, washer and dryer, stereo system (use with your laptop/phone/i-pad or bring CDs), a gas range with oven and broiler, garbage disposal, dish washer, and a full-sized fridge. The bathroom features a tub/shower combination and complimentary luxury bath products. Our enclosed, attached garage provides parking for a single car and our private drive area has ample space for up to two additional vehicles.
We do not have a microwave, a land-line phone, or TV--this house is about unplugging and enjoying 'la dolce vita'.
The garden that surrounds the house is planted with heritage roses, herbs, lilacs, grapes, fruit and nut trees. The house is nestled at the end of a private drive in the midst of a quiet neighborhood. We are firm on our policy of a 4-guest limit, and our house is not suitable for hosting large parties.
We require a two-night minimum stay and offer significant discounts for a stay of one week or more--as well as discounts for returning guests.
