About Bryan Lukehart & Jennifer Helman

An unlikely pair, Bryan grew up in Marion Center, Pennsylvania where he was raised on the family farm, tending to fields, and hunting and fishing when he got the chance; Jennifer grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, and when she came to Indiana County, PA to attend IUP, she fell in love with the outdoors and never left the area.

Bryan's family has a camp on Wolf Lick, and since he was a child, Bryan grew up fishing the streams in Elk Country, and hunting bear and whitetail deer in the abundant State Game and Forest Lands. Needless to say, Bryan's roots as an outdoorsman run deep, and still today, he is an avid fisherman, hunter, and trapper.

Almost a decade ago, Jennifer was introduced to Elk Country by Bryan's dad, Ed, and the two have put on countless miles photographing elk and sightseeing. Despite growing up in the city, Jennifer developed a deep love for the outdoors, she is an avid trail runner and hiker, and also likes to hunt and fish.

Bryan Lukehart & Jennifer Helman purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Bryan Lukehart & Jennifer Helman chose Pennsylvania

With many fond childhood memories of Elk Country and his family's camp on Wolf Lick Run, Bryan bought the piece of land that Camp Can't Keep Up now sits on around 2005, built by hand with the help of friends and family, Camp Can’t Keep Up has sat alongside the banks of Hicks Run since its completion in 2008.

Bryan cultivated many fond memories with his family, but especially his two children at this cabin over the years, fishing for trout, hunting whitetail deer in the state game lands, elk shed (antler) hunting, biking, cooking over an open fire, and just enjoying the beauty of nature in the Pennsylvania Wilds.

What makes this cabin unique

Camp Can't Keep up sits alone on a generous 1.5 acre lot, that is backed by Hicks Run. a well-stocked trout stream. Situated a mile off of the main highway, Hicks Run Road is perfect for running and biking, with very little traffic. The cabin has beautiful mountain views and the porch swings are perfect for drinking your morning coffee and listening to the creek. Kids of all ages love the swings and rope swings! The outdoor cooking area is large enough to accommodate the entire family!

Nice cabin, nice area. Neighbors a little close for me

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the time there, had our one year old grandson and he had a blast with the swings and playing in the stream. Only negative is the water in the cabin, really strong smell to it, almost didn't want to shower but its well water and that happens with some wells.

Hicks Run Weekend Get - Away

  • 5 of 5

As in our past visits to your property, everything was in perfect order. Camp and grounds are always clean and well maintained. I would give your place a 5 out of 5 without hesitation.

Butterflies were everywhere!

  • 5 of 5

We had a GREAT week. Relaxing. Quiet. Interesting. So many different types of birds that we lost count. Swallowtails all over the place! Sitting on the deck in those lovely swings was perfect. We stayed for a week and didn't make too many other plans; sat around a lot, fished, used the swings, enjoyed a thunderstorm, and had fun with our kids. This cabin was perfect for us. Enough beds, a washer and dryer so we didn't have to pack as much, well-equipped kitchen (+dishwasher!), comfy living room and the satellite TV was great! Our 9yo caught her first salmon, we caught more over the week. 3yo enjoyed wading and catching crayfish. No Elk in yard for us, but saw bucks, does, and little spotted ones (!) close by, on the roads and Winslow Hill Elk Viewing area. Checked out nearby state parks; black bear ran across street in front of our car! This cabin was clean and had everything we could want to be comfortable and relax, inside and out. We would recommend bringing larger fitted sheets- queen sized. Bought food in DuBois on the way up. Big fridge and freezer! Pizza from the Benezette Hotel was excellent, and cheap. Bringing bottled water was good advice; tap water tasted OK but slight sulfury smell. Cell phones do not work in this area, so cabin internet was SO helpful! Owners were very attentive and responsive to questions, personal touches in cabin were very nice, security deposit refunded promptly. We would definitely stay here again if coming to the area, and definitely recommend this cabin to others.

Planning on returning

  • 4 of 5

We have no complaints, visiting this cabin. Enjoyed ever day, wish could have stay more than 4 nights. Very Comfortable, clean cabin. I would say relaxing, if there wasn't so much other things do too. Very close to good fishing. Elk & deer all around. Got many wild life pictures. Endless hiking opportunities. Thoughtful host.
