About Bryan Lukehart & Jennifer Helman

An unlikely pair, Bryan grew up in Marion Center, Pennsylvania where he was raised on the family farm, tending to fields, and hunting and fishing when he got the chance; Jennifer grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, and when she came to Indiana County, PA to attend IUP, she fell in love with the outdoors and never left the area.

Bryan's family has a camp on Wolf Lick, and since he was a child, Bryan grew up fishing the streams in Elk Country, and hunting bear and whitetail deer in the abundant State Game and Forest Lands. Needless to say, Bryan's roots as an outdoorsman run deep, and still today, he is an avid fisherman, hunter, and trapper.

Almost a decade ago, Jennifer was introduced to Elk Country by Bryan's dad, Ed, and the two have put on countless miles photographing elk and sightseeing. Despite growing up in the city, Jennifer developed a deep love for the outdoors, she is an avid trail runner and hiker, and also likes to hunt and fish.

Bryan Lukehart & Jennifer Helman purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Bryan Lukehart & Jennifer Helman chose Driftwood

With many fond childhood memories of Elk Country and his family's camp on Wolf Lick Run, Bryan bought the piece of land that Camp Can't Keep Up now sits on around 2005, built by hand with the help of friends and family, Camp Can’t Keep Up has sat alongside the banks of Hicks Run since its completion in 2008.

Bryan cultivated many fond memories with his family, but especially his two children at this cabin over the years, fishing for trout, hunting whitetail deer in the state game lands, elk shed (antler) hunting, biking, cooking over an open fire, and just enjoying the beauty of nature in the Pennsylvania Wilds.

What makes this cabin unique

Camp Can't Keep up sits alone on a generous 1.5 acre lot, that is backed by Hicks Run. a well-stocked trout stream. Situated a mile off of the main highway, Hicks Run Road is perfect for running and biking, with very little traffic. Great get away

  • 4 of 5

We found the cabin to be well equipped. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was very nice as was the family room. We enjoyed the swings on the back porch and in the yard. The fire pit was great. The night sky was amazing. We did not see elk in the yard but we saw lots of elk along the roadway and at the visitor center. We thoroughly enjoyed the area. The negatives for the cabin are the smell of the water and the cabin had an odor that smelled perhaps like the heating fuel or maybe from previous guests using the wood stove. The cabin was clean other than the ladybugs on the windowsills and all over the floor in upstairs toilet area. The TV worked well. We were not able to get cell service but honestly that was nice. There is a landline if needed. The neighboring cabins are close but we really hardly ever saw anyone at adjacent cabins. They are far enough away that it still felt private enough

Beautiful cabin with all the comforts of home

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I truly enjoyed staying here. It was so comfortable and relaxing. The location is wonderful and quiet - tucked away off of the main roads just a bit, but relatively close to several of the popular viewing areas for the elk. There were some other cabins nearby, but we didn't mind. The bed in the first floor bedroom was cozy; it felt like a pillowtop mattress. Our queen bedding fit it perfectly. The internet worked well, and we were able to keep in touch with the folks at home while we were there. It took us a little while to figure out the satellite TV, but it also worked well, even when it rained on Monday night. It was great to hear the stream running while sitting on the porch swings on the back deck the next morning. While we didn't see any elk at the property, we saw over 50 elk at Winslow Hill, and a lone bull elk at the nearby Hicks Run viewing area. We pulled off of the road to watch another bull elk and his herd of cows as they walked through the stream that runs along route 555. This cabin has several brochures displayed in a rack that provide information about the area. Everything in the cabin was clean and nicely appointed with newer furniture and appliances. The collection of wildlife mounted on the walls in the great room and throughout the loft ceiling was just amazing. We chose to bring along our own bottled water, coffee, and firewood from home. My husband built a fire in the wood stove in the living room Monday night. The fire kept the room warm and cozy while we enjoyed some TV. While the upper level has several beds available, please note that the loft is just a large room with a toilet on that floor. The toilet upstairs has a curtain in front of it to provide some privacy. The only full and private bath is downstairs. This could be an issue if someone comes to stay with a large group. We enjoyed lunch and dinner at the Benezette Hotel. Also, the small restaurant/store in town had yummy biscuits and sausage gravy for breakfast. We had a great time, and will be back!

Great Time

  • 5 of 5

The accommodations were very clean and neat, but do take bottled water.

We seen elk in the yard and at both neighbors the very first night, which included a bull. Heard a bunch of cyotes while around the campfire and hoping they were not after the young baby elk. Seen what I believe was a blue heron land in the yard, but no bear sightings.

Would definitely recommend this place for a nice getaway.

Thanks for sharing you lovely cabin.
